Sure would be nice to get a durable and effective middle reliever. Maybe he could be like Mike Marshall back in the day, and throw 200 innings as a reliever! Won a Cy Young with the Dodgers in 1974, with 106 appearances and 208.1 innings! Perhaps the game has changed...you know, if you just bring him in for the 5th inning plus every time, Wilson could get 50 wins. It's the most important stat, after all.

Murph is a sly one. If the team does poorly, he can identify an underperforming group and can the coordinator!

Yeah, I read that wrong...that he was getting $7mm plus the buyout. As to performance...I trust the Brewers' evaluations more than other projections. And moving TT made a bit more money available for the Chourio extension.

But then they signed Junis, and he's more or less the same pitcher, results wise - and he's gonna cost about double after all is said and done.

It's still not clear to me why the Brewers traded Houser and signed Junis. Unless they see some untapped potential in Jakob, they seem to be much the same pitcher (results-wise), and Houser would have been considerably cheaper.

Perhaps. In that case, working in various front office positions would seem to make more sense. To me, anyways. I hope the team does so well that Murph ensures himself the job for five years or so.

That's my question. It felt like (to me, anyways) that Weeks was hired as the manager-in-waiting. Murph is not a young man, and has had health issues. If they have great success this year (or maybe next) then he may stay around for a while, but Weeks still seems to be in a little bit of a different position than other bench coaches. They are usually guys like Murph that are veterans, there for their game knowledge more than their future potential. I feel like Weeks is there to learn to manage.

Sanchez said his wrist is fully healed, but he hurt his hand while working out this off-season. In any case, either is a cause for concern. Murph really likes Mitchell, and barring a complete collapse I expect him to play a lot. Murph has been downplaying Chourio, but that might just be mind games. I really hope Black forces his way into the starting line-up somewhere this spring. His high on base, good speed, and growing power would sure be welcome in this line-up. We'll see ten starting pitchers get starts this year. Hot hand...or arm...will play.

I find it odd that we haven't gotten any stories, info, or even mention of what Rickie Weeks has been doing for spring training. Or how he views his job. Or anything, really. Inquiring minds want to know!

Saw a report today (Rosiak) that kinda sounded like his velocity was kinda back but not totally, but that his pitches were close to the same shape as pre-injury. Rather ambiguous...but better than "not close".

The pitchers will tell us who gets the innings. I'm not counting on Ashby; anything from him will be a bonus.

Yup. Been thinking the same thing. It sure would help if they could carry 14 pitchers, but this would work. They'll need enough depth at AAA and AA...or even Appleton...to let guys go there for a couple of weeks to more or less R&R, pitching just once or twice for an inning or two. Another issue could be injury or ineffectiveness from the "A" pen. Misiorowski and Hall for six innings a week will be fun to watch.

I dunno. As I think about it, this is the one time that a mutual option might get accepted by both sides. In any case, it is incredibly team friendly for the first two years, and even $20mm in '26 could be a bargain. If he can't make it back (which is, unfortunately, the likeliest outcome), that $10mm in '26 won't be that big of a deal as the Brewers will at that point - hopefully - be in the total youth-movement part of the build.

KISS...of Joey can concentrate on driving the ball up the middle, he has the power to hit it out to all fields. That'd be kinda exciting.

One or two players can make a much bigger difference in the NBA than they can in baseball. Otherwise the Angels would have dominated the last six or so years.

Manfred never said he is definitely retiring. He's just "planning" to retire. It'll be like Bud Selig all over again.

Any change would have to be approved by the union. It ain't happenin'. And for the life of me I don't know why folks feel it necessary to protect the ownership group's riches for them. Good gravy. Scott Boras is not a villain. He's very good at his job, which is to get players as much money as he can, while still adhering to their wishes.

Spring training - where hope springs eternal in the hearts of men...and women...and kids. Woody deserves a full recovery. Of course, that guarantees nothing. But man, it'd sure be nice for him and his family.
