  1. I lurk now and then. After all, I got nothin' but time. At this point in life, any attention is good...stalking or otherwise. I guess I prefer the folks running a site to give a crap.
  2. Rational thought has no place in spring training conjecture.
  3. The thing is, Boras can't give in and give one of the "haves" a bargain on his remaining guys. If he has to give in and have someone sign for less $$/yrs, it has to be to one of the teams that couldn't afford the long term/high dollars contract. If he gives in and they sign with, say, the Yankees (I'm talking Snell and Montgomery), on a one year/player option deal, then those teams can continue to collude and drive down future deals. If they sign the same deal with a poor(er) contender, then the "haves" know they'll need to pony up next year if they want a difference maker. Get 'er done, Brewers.
  4. Yup. The potential benefit of 180 innings/30 starts from Montgomery is huge. Now you're down to filling in about 50 starts to fill in from the rest of the hoi polloi, and you can be much pickier in who does that. That would be a great investment in the now and in the future.
  5. Nicely done. I think another advantage for Murph is that he has no fear. "Failure" won't bother him in the short term if he's seeing the growth that is needed. He won't be cookie-cutter in his approach (and it felt like CC was getting that way, which may be why he wanted a change of scenery...and perhaps more money). We won't always agree with his decisions, but then we don't have all of his information or thought processes. Will the analytics department start fighting him on his decisions? Could be a very interesting season.
  6. The impressive thing about the Brewers is how often that there is fire with absolutely no smoke.
  7. I guess it's probably true of every team, but this rotation seems to have serious questions about various issues for every one of their options. Health, talent, ability to get above 70 pitches effectively, experience...all of them are deficient in more than one of these - if not all of them.
  8. Snell or go to he...ck $20mm with a $5mm player option on $15mm
  9. I'm wait and see on Rea. It almost feels like a reliever situation to me...not confident from one year to the next. I guess that's probably true of anyone that hasn't established several good seasons.
  10. It seems a bit unfair to ding a guy so severely for what should perhaps happen rather than what does happen. I mean, Mitchell has certainly never been as lost as Joey was for much of last year. Well, Mitchell was lost for much of the year...but I digress. That said, the team certainly will pay attention to these metrics this spring, and if his performance seems to be following this pattern then by all means work with him at AAA. If his actual numbers look similar to his career MLB numbers, work with him at the major league level.
  11. They seem to be planning on keeping all 3. But I expect they'll go a few weeks with Haase as the back-up, then keep 3 until they are sure Sanchez will be healthy enough. If they deal Haase, there's a very strong chance we'll see Quero this year. I don't know if they want to do that...not because of talent, just getting him ready. And heck, there could be an injury to Contreras.
  12. Man, I wish there was some way to get him in the line-up right away. I'd rather have him than Sanchez. I figure Sanchez is gonna open on the IL anyways, so maybe?
  13. Wouldn't bother me, but Sal has to prove it first. LY Sal wasn't ready. Hopefully he is TY...but with using him as a super utility player means he could be removed from games, and then you might not have a good enough hitter getting important at bats. And if Yeli likes hitting lead-off, he's earned it.
  14. I find this puzzling. Yeli had an OBP of .370, with 28 stolen bases and 106 runs scored. OPS was .818, second only to Contreras. He seems the ideal lead-off hitter.
  15. Sure would be nice to have none of the pen arms go through the good year/bad year cycle. Unless they're going from bad to good.
  16. Well, I didn't say he'd falter...just that that was his best. I see more potential at the plate from the rest; Dunn is a left handed bat; Black and Ortiz have more hit potential (IMO), and Turang is a much better defender. Mono is there for the inevitable injuries. In a vacuum I'd rather see Brock Wilkin on the roster, but he needs to play every day.
  17. But I'm not as sure of his stardom as others. He could be Manny Pina.
  18. I'd pump the brakes on extending Quero. It would appear that he's gonna be good, but catcher is so hard to judge. There are plenty of cautionary tales out there...Francisco Mejia, Joey Bart, maybe even Henry Davis. And the system is currently so deep (seemingly), that going the Burnes route seems like a good plan. And Uribe...I wouldn't. He should be good, but it's such a risk with pitchers.
  19. I'd say we've seen the best of MonoStereo, and should play at Nashville. Black should play in the bigs, Turang should get regular at bats at AAA, and Ollie should play for Milwaukee. Ortiz can play all over the infield. Unfortunately, this keeping 3 catchers might make that much infield depth tough. I bet Sanchez starts the season on the IL. If Bauers doesn't hit he might just be the odd man out.
  20. I like the idea, but it takes two to tango. Or more than two...then it isn't a tango anymore, is it?
  21. I can only assume that this will eventually end up costing people that want to watch all the games more than it does now. Isn't that how it works?
