  1. Am I misreading how this happened? Did the pitch hit him or did he break his wrist checking his swing...or just hitting an inside pitch?
  2. Well, Mathew, you were right and I was wrong. Mitchell is hurt again. sigh
  3. But I won't miss Houser's smashed groundballs getting through being labeled bad luck.
  4. Apropos of nothing...Burnes always seemed to get more than his share of bloops and bleeders.
  5. I mean that I keep hearing how Mitchell can't be a good hitter, but he keeps producing acceptable or better results. This spring included.
  6. They are likely to need lots of innings out of the pen. Starting pitching is thin and inexperienced, and I could see many short starts/multi-inning relief appearances. All year, for that matter.
  7. Yeah, I can see that. But Sanchez would seem to have more upside at the plate, and can do exactly what Bauers does (although as a righty, so there's that). The $$ difference is small ($1.7mm more for Sanchez to cut him) but that might make a difference...and he could catch in an emergency even if the Brewers decide he shouldn't do it on a once-a-week basis.
  8. Well, it really doesn't take a lot of deep thought to come up with this plan - otherwise I wouldn't have thought of it. If it were up to me I'd be shopping Bauers right now for anything I could get...which would at best be a lottery ticket, if there were any takers at all. The A's might give up a couple of season tix to games in Vegas. So I guess it makes more sense to go the route you described.
  9. The Frelick move to some infield exposure didn't just happen this spring, it was started in the off-season with his work with Pedroia...and he does have some (minimal) history on the infield in his past. The interview with Adames (about Sal at third) wasn't super positive, but it wasn't negative either. As to his performance at the plate, having his hand healthy now will likely have more impact than his new defensive position. I expect Sal to get the majority of time at third vs righties, and/or to move back and forth from there and the outfield in lots of games. Sanchez on the IL for a few weeks to start...and work on his rcvg...gives Bauers a brief reprieve, but if he doesn't produce he'll be on waivers when Sanchez is deemed ready.
  10. Thanks for the update. It has always seemed to me that the Brewers can be overly cautious with injuries. Except with Garrett Mitchell last year...never should have gone back out to cf. And Yovani Gallardo when he blew out his knee.
  11. Yeah, Bauers seems to be the least valuable player among the catcher/fb/dh options. Might keep him until Sanchez is fully healthy, after a season start on the IL.
  12. Maybe I'm nuts (well, okay, there's no doubt), but that system for grading catchers could be the most absurd stat thingie I've heard in a long time. If Barnhart and Haase having the same rating isn't evidence of that... Besides, how much leeway do catchers have anymore?
  13. That can be significant time off, though.
  14. He'll have the chance to move up in the pecking order, and be the closer by the third week of the season.
  15. Still think Sanchez starts on the IL, pushing the decison down the road.
