  1. [ I really hope that this organization doesnt become like Oakland where we pass up the high ceiling high school players for the Scott Hattebergs of the world. ] I guess I'm not sure I understand your comparison. Scott Hatteberg was a player Oakland acquired because his OBP was undervalued. I would think their abilities to draft the Barry Zitos, Nick Swishers, Mark Mulders, and Tim Hudsons of the world would have a lot of people envying the Athletics' ideas about drafting.
  2. [ Sorry for the rant, I need to vent and the cats don't seem to care. ] They care, but they just can't verbalize it.
  3. Nature: 1, Brewerfan 0: I must re-iterate, that they were a very classy team... I think on a day with less wind, this would be a team that we could go neck & neck with. This was one of those days when losing didn't feel quite as bad.
  4. Nice team. They did a great job at hitting line drives tonight, and had very solid D.
  5. As of now, our game is still on. Be there or be square.
  6. First Jack Z quote of the draft: "We are happy to have secured the rights to one of the top college power hitters in the country," said Zduriencik. "Matt has had a solid college career and is certainly ready for his next challenge. He has a unique opportunity to eventually contribute to a young and talented Major League team that could be together a long time." So, I'm reading into this that fast-tracking him is on the agenda. No big shock, really, assuming I'm reading into it right.
  7. Jamie, just to let you and Mary know, Nicole won't be attending tonight's game. She's out with the in-laws getting parts for one of our cars.
  8. Laporta really doesn't have the leverage to be guaranteed a 40-man spot, but given the lack of players who can swing the right-handed stick on the 25-man roster, what the hay.
  9. He majored in Recreation and Event Management. That's awesome.
  10. [ We have Prince for 4 more seasons after this year. Braun made it to the majors in just under 2 years, and Laporta is a further advanced hitter than even Braun, or Alex Gordon was. Zimmerman hit well in the majors the year he was drafted, Laporta has a chance to do that if he does indeed have a predraft deal. ] Interesting. The Brewers are in need of a backup outfielder who can hit right-handed and come off the bench. How much of an insane reach would it be to call him up in Sept?
  11. There are 15 moderators on the site. I've hand-picked them based on attributes I feel match my own vision for the site. We've scaled up the moderator staff proportionately to the recent spike in users. I've based the number based roughly on the availability of each person. Moderators have the ability to discuss particular threads, and more often than not, threads that are locked for reasons that may not seem crystal-clear to the end user get discussed. Generally, threads in which people aren't responding with insightful commentary and where people are taking shots at each other get locked. This is what happened with the thread in question. It is a judgement call, you're right. However, I feel this makes the human aspect to moderating makes Brewerfan.net unique from other message boards.
  12. My assumption is that you guys weren't on the site in 2004 for the last election. Based on people's behavior back then, there's no chance in hell I'm bringing it back.
  13. I would be absolutely shocked if the Brewers changed managers mid-season.
  14. I just wanted to give my sincere thanks to our Patrick Ebert for all the hard work he's done leading up to the draft, and all the hard work he'll be involved with during the post-draft coverage. Brewerfan.net has been blessed with the kind of all-inclusive draft coverage that most sites charge money for. I can't emphasize enough how lucky we are to have a guy of Patrick's caliber, who doubles as our graphic artist to boot. Thanks again, Patrick, and to everyone else, we at Brewerfan.net are committed to continuing and expanding our draft coverage, and keeping it free.
  15. Where would you play him? 3B or a corner OF?
  16. Is your buddy's username: cmoore22 or f03j03? If so, I just approved his account and now he can post.
  17. Scores from tonight: Brian the Automator (+7) bball123h (-8) mkealz (+1) Looking forward to getting a full table together on 06/19.
  18. [ I hate that they might do it but I am starting to think that Gallardo is going to be here before the All Star break. I just hope he is inserted in the rotation and one of the vets is put in the bullpen. ] Do you think he could handle starting all year, including September? Given that the Brewers have five good starters (when handled correctly), I think it'd be a great move for him and the club.
  19. They're based off the content of the page. Do you know if it was a text ad or an image ad?
  20. [ any one know if he can pitch on consective days ? ] You can look stats like these up for yourself, as they're freely available online: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...pid=346797 minorleaguebaseball.com has done a much better job this year at publishing stats.
  21. [ Wise is a one trick pony who had one good major league season and several mediocre ones. ] I disagree. He had a great first season in Milwaukee, a good second season until it was hampered by injuries, and now a pretty good third season. My problem with Wise is that he's made of glass. Going back to back for him is pretty much not an option. [ They need to find help in the pen from somewhere. ] I think it'll be from Gallardo. He's not going to be able to start all the way through Sept/Oct and be effective. I think this is probably going to go down in the very near future as well.
