  1. A 3pm afternoon Sheepshead break.
  2. The other thing I like about Yuku is that it's an entirely managed application, and I'm not responsible for it if something "breaks". Making a message board that can handle the load that Yuku can isn't a task that I'd want to undertake lightly. And as Casey said, many of the open-source message board softwares (phpBB, etc) are open to a lot of spammers and attacks. Ideally, I'd like to make my own sports-centric message board software, but for now, I'm going to stick with Yuku.
  3. A friend of mine, Kevin, is selling several sets of tickets. You can contact him at: kjb6974@hotmail.com Face value is $20 on all tickets. These are first row LF Bleachers. 4. Was contacted by a representative from Krylon the other day. Apparently, they're having a contest for free world series tickets. Here's the link.
  5. Wow, no love for "Chopping Mall".
  6. The stats will be making a return to the site for sure.
  7. Ok, so I'm working feverishly on re-writing the "main site", because it's really fallen into a state of disrepair. I'm sure many people here probably bookmark the forums and only go over to the main site when we indicate there's something new there (an article, a new power 50, etc). I'm re-writing the website in a newer technology that will allow me to add new features and functionality at a much quicker rate than I could in the past. So, is there any feature that you'd like to see at brewerfan.net (and we're talking about all things that are non-forum-based, as I don't have control over that code) that we don't have? We have the flexibility here to do things that sites like brewers.com can't (such as, integrating with eBay, twitter, facebook, etc etc etc), since we're not tied down contractually to anything or anyone. Think big... I'd really like to get you all involved with making this site even better (adding player videos, your photos, games, contests, etc).
  8. Thats a pretty major slam on Taylor Green. I assume you just forgot him because he's out right now, but will be back soon according to Mr. Kusnick. Green is everybit as good of a prospect as Gillespie. Bill Hall is signed through next year, where as there will be an opening in the OF next year. So you go into next season with him in the minors learning to play the OF, or he gets on the job training as a rookie in the Majors?I did somewhat forget about Taylor Green, but I see him as more of a reserve. I'd rather have my 3rd-baseman have a little more pop. I'd probably send Gamel to the AFL to work on playing the outfield. That, along with S/T, should give him a leg up. He'd probably still be learning on the job to start 2010 to some extent, but I really like his bat at 3B.
  9. I think so. The Brewers have other options in the outfield as far as prospects go (Cain, Gillespie), but absolutely nothing at 3B. I think if he doesn't figure it out by the end of this year, then you think about perhaps putting him in a corner OF slot.

  11. That's exactly right.
  12. I'm currently in the process of re-writing the "main site". Within that framework, i'm adding the ability to link to player videos, photos...etc. I think it would be interesting to incorporate the "adopt-a-prospect" idea into this. In exchange for the user's name being displayed on the player profile page for that prospect, they would be given access to update videos, photos, link to articles, etc about that player... perhaps also, if it's a pitcher, that user could be responsible for updating what types of pitchers (and, if possible at what speed) that player throws. I'm trying to bring more attention to the "main site", as I think it's just become a shell for the forums, and this might be an interesting way to see if user-generated content like this would be viable.
  13. Once Gwynn clears waivers, a team would be able to trade for him and keep him in AAA. If they claim him on waivers, they have to keep him on the 25-man roster.
  14. I was hoping we'd get Sidd Finch back in the deal.
  15. Assuming it's just like Sam's Club, it's one of the best decisions Nicole and I have made. We're creatures of habit, so we pretty much buy the same items every month. Sometimes you can get in trouble by buying food that will spoil before you're able to make it all because of the quantity, but on things like paper towels, soda, gatorade, detergent, cat litter, etc (things that we KNOW we'll use), it pays for itself very quickly.
  16. It all really stems from the fact that people feel that they have the right to behave differently online than in real life. In real life, these discussions would just be disagreements, and they'd run their course. On forums, you have the ability to communicate at a much slower pace and you're not limited in the time in which to find the perfect insult. In a real life argument, there's no transcript, and there's not as much of an urge to get the "last word" in. On a forum, everyone can see who posted the last thing, and I think there's a tendency to try to "save face", so flame wars generally get drawn out. I used to get drawn into flame wars all the time, because I used to look around the internet and see what things people were saying about Brewerfan. On occasion, I'd find someone who I felt was lying or exaggerating about something, and I felt that I had to defend the site. Fortunately (or unfortunately), my time's been spent dealing with more "real" problems than what AwesomeBaseballDude8356 says about my website.
  17. There's only one right idea. And that's "the truth".
  18. I'm really sorry to hear that, Hammer. I went through two periods of unemployment back during 9/11 when the economy was in the crapper that time. Not being able to work is a serious kick in the groin... financially AND emotionally. You and everyone else here that is struggling with this is in Nicole and my prayers. It WILL get better.
  19. When I started following the minors real closely, it was the 3 K's that excited me the most (Scott Krause, Danny Klassen, Mike Kincade). I think they were all mashing in El Paso, and I was too young and naïve to know about park effects.
  20. I work for a consulting firm near mayfair mall... We have an "open concept" work area (basically desks with no walls). The mannequin heads on my desk serve as headphone stands for my regular headphones and my phone headset.
  21. In fairness, a snuggie is longer than a bathrobe, by design, so that it can cover your feet.
  22. It depends on whose job I'm saving. If there's people you work with who make the company less profitable because they're lazy, I don't necessarily feel like I should save their job. Assuming that everyone's giving it their best though?... I'd probably take a 5% paycut.
