  1. [ Somehow though, OPS becaume the most important stat in determing how good a hitter is and that bothers me. That would be like me and a gang of 6 others who thought K's were the most important stat and vigoursly brought up that one stat only. ] It isn't a gang of 6 though, it's the majority of people at the site (or at least a large group of people) that think OPS is the best quick-glance indicator of offense and a way to compare players. The bottom line is that you're going to have to set aside your feelings on that topic, or every thread that has a stat in it that you participate in is going to be an academic argument about OPS, and will be deemed by me or another moderator a duplicate thread and will squash a conversation that would have previously continued without that repeated argum[/b] edit - just fixed messed up bold tag - ja002h
  2. At one point, the site policed itself. People knew when to agree to disagree, and people didn't get offended when other people didn't agree with their point of view. I didn't have to keep recruiting more moderators, and people didn't feel it was necessary to push each others buttons by baiting or being condescending. It happened from time to time, but it was limited. Now, the site has grown immensely, and there are more conflicting personalities. I can't say i'm surprised, but I am very disappointed. People need to start acting like ladies and gentlemen, rather than loudmouths. The key to the whole thing is talking to each other as you would talk to them in real life. I think people also need to stop thinking that they have to "win arguments". The person who wins isn't always the one that re-phrases their argument the most... in fact quite often, the person that "wins the argument" is the one that agrees to disagree and politely exits the thread stage left. If don't start having respect for the general philosophy of the site, the staff will have no recourse other than to start turning the screws even more. I don't want to do that. I would hope that people have enough respect for the site to realize when they've become obnoxious.
  3. [ Are my pictures offensive to someone? Because I just had a post deleted...I would love to have an explanation as to why it was, I'm not angry, just curious. ] I didn't want that thread "lemured" yet.
  4. The fan forum has a search feature, where it's easy to find threads which discuss Russell Branyan.
  5. [ Sometimes the thread still appears in its previous forum with a notation saying "moved". Other times it disappears entirely. Is that a moderator's choice or is that an ezBoard thing? ] It's a moderator's choice, but a bug in Brewefan causes the home page to get funky if we show the shadow in the existing forum.
  6. [ There is ZERO threads discussing Russell Branyan on the first 4 pages of the Major League Forum. ] Here's one on the first page of the major league forum: p092.ezboard.com/fbrewers...9471.topic [ You might think the discussion has been discussed enough, but obviously a lot of fans don't or they wouldnt keep posting. ] Some posters have hot-button issues that they turn into personal vendettas. One of the things we ask in our FAQ is that people not be repetitive.
  7. How many more identical Russell Branyan bloodbath discussions do we need?
  8. [ No, but there are plenty of people who believe k's arent any worse than a flyball that Torri Hunter robs 3 feet over the center field fence. This whole argument about k's not sucking is stupid. If the stats say they arent more damaging to a team then let me say this. The stats are wrong and misleading. Show me a stat that explains how someone who goes 0-4 with 3 k's takes away any confidence for the next game. Show me how completly missing the ball displays skill and gives any hope that the player has any reason to believe next time will be different. I could go on and on about this but its pointless. The stats say that k's dont hurt any more than balls put in play that are recorded as outs. If the stats say so, many people will buy into it but its wrong. If k's don't matter why are strikeout pitchers so highly sought after buy every team in baseball? Its just a ridiculous notion that k's dont matter. ] Why are we re-hashing this for the ba-jillionth time? My point was simply that newbies to the site often think that 3TO players are better than other players.... when in reality, 3TO is just a fun way to root for Russell.
  9. I think some people here think the posters are serious with their love for the concept of 3TO. In reality, it's just a cult-type thing because it's a fun statistic. I don't think anyone believes strikeouts in the grand scheme of things are better than "productive outs".
  10. i've deleted 2 posts in this thread because the hatfield/mccoy feud is really detracting from the site. I will continue to do so in the future as I see them.
  11. A sure-fire way to improve your life is to not take Brewer wins and losses so seriously. I'm not kidding. It starts to permeate other parts of your life, and makes it uncomfortable for everyone around you. Bad stuff.
  12. [ Character is what your OPS is with RISP ] Actually, with RISP is one of the situations I start to look at *gasp* batting average more. Not that hitting for power or walking isn't always good, but pretty much always going to score your basic non-slug from 2B on a single.
  13. [ Would you knock it off. ] Well seriously, step off the ledge.
  14. [ This is what I think about this game: ] That's so disgusting that it almost feels like you can smell it.
  15. To me, the point is so that people see what kinds of threads get locked...
  16. forums.espn.go.com/espn/m...D=13405366 Whomever posted the above message is a coward. You do NOT speak for Brewerfan.net, and even though most of the ESPN posters did not believe you were me (or someone who works with me), you put Brewerfan.net in a negative light when you post these kinds of things. If you do not cease to post over there, i'll do everything in my power to find out who you are and ban you permanantly from this site. Regarding the thread, there were some pretty ugly generalizations made about the posters here. I do NOT want ugly generalizations made of the posters over there either. Seriously, I have enough garbage to deal in day in and day out without people acting like jerks. People like you make it not fun to run this site anymore, and make me feel more like a babysitter than a programmer and site administrator.
  17. Brady Clark went home because his wife's about to give birth to their first child.
  18. [ This isn't meant to bash on him, or his case for the Hall, as I really don't care much about this stuff, but didn't he get the nickname "Rock" because of his liking of "rock cocaine"? ] Quit being such a drug snob. We can't ALL afford the high-grade stuff.
  19. www.brewerfan.net/ViewArt...icleId=212 splitterfj takes a look into Tim Raines's career and his hall of fame credentials. Discussion of the article is definately encouraged. Vote Here! edit: added vote here link...
  20. [ I take offense at the characterization of someone as an "idiot". Please refrain from name-calling in the future, please. ] Seriously. Knock it off. I'm not playing games anymore.
  21. [ Brian, wouldn't "Mr. Sensitive" be considered a good thing to some? I could see if I called someone "Mr. Insensitive" that I'd be in trouble. ] Don't patronize me. Just follow the rules.
  22. [ And if saying "Mr. Sensitive" after someone tells me what's appropriate or not is worthy of a "banning", I guess I'll just have to leave everyone to their crayons and sandbox before I hear crying. ] On it's own, it's not worth of a banning. However, you were required read the message board FAQ before you signed up, and it explicitly states that name-calling isn't allowed. I've had to personally warn you on another occasion as well. You'll need to abide by the message board FAQ, to continue posting here.
  23. [ Criminals...definitely not but even dave chapelle says that black people are genetically predisposed to liking chicken! ] Yeah. I'm german and I like sauerkraut and can't dance, but I don't want other poeple to automatically ASSUME it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. [ I missed the part where somebody actually said that. ] Well, you know... - French people smell bad and are snooty - Polish people are dumb - Black people are criminals and like fried chicken - Mexican people often get into knife fights Duh. It's all common knowledge. Since it's apparently OK to generalize and stereotype French people, maybe we should expand our horizons and make fun of all groups of people. What could possibly go wrong?
