  1. [ For those of us who don't have XM? ] It's cheap. I highly recommend it.
  2. [ But, what do you do other than turn the radio off? ] MLB home plate on XM is where it's at.
  3. [ That guy is out there and available and his name isn't Mark Loretta, its Ronnie Belliard. ] The Nats recently extended Belliard's contract.... I'm not saying he's "untouchable", but I think he figures into the Nats future plans.
  4. [ Peter Molyneaux (sp?) ] CORRECT With so many geeks here, I figured this one wouldn't last long.
  5. Did he mean that players were popping up to much while trying to swing for the fences? Weird.
  6. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/phearinc/youcantwin-40.jpg Who am I?
  7. [ Mench and Wise for Rowand? I would do it, Mench could replace Rowand in the OF, and we all know how much solid relief pitching is worth... ] Rowand's got a .921 OPS this year and plays CF. There's no way he could be had for Mench and Wise.

  9. I really don't think you want Bill Michaels talking Brewers baseball.
  10. Too easy: http://webzoom.freewebs.com/316sports/sal%20bando.JPG
  11. [ Also there were rumors of Dye for Turnbow and a prospect. I would do that if I were melvin depending on the prospect. ] To me that would be worse than Linebrink for Inman, Thatcher, Garrison. As much as people like to get on Turnbow's case, he's one of our better relievers, and that's an area of the team that may be severely in question this offseason.
  12. Something's really screwed up. When it visited the site, it said: "You have voted for this site - McCovey Chronicles".
  13. And so my sabermetric decline begins. Also, I'd like to wish a happy birthday to our very own Colbyjack! He may not "add value" to our organization, but he's been one of my right hand men since day one.
  14. 1. Barry Bonds 2. Gary Sheffield 3. Jason Giambi 4. Carlos Zambrano 5. Sammy Sosa
  15. [ What one of the 5 would you want and do you want to see another bat added? ] To add another bat, you'd have to: a) give up things of value b) take on salary c) Have Jenkins and Mench both be satisfied with being bench players, at least to the point where they're doing their jobs. Earl Weaver talked about bench players and platoon players at length... You not only have to find players who can play well for you, but you have to find ones who are willing to do their jobs. Not all starters will excel as bench players, and vice versa because of this. I think Mench's numbers vs. LHP and Jenkins numbers vs. RHP are as good as you're going to get without breaking the bank. If you told me I could have KGJ as my every day LF starter, I'd be ecstatic... but looking at what Melvin had to give up to get Linebrink, I don't think it's in the cards.
  16. At least Nicole made me a cake.
  17. Wow... something about trades makes players say "devastating" a lot. Well, I'm glad to hear the Padres players are so downbeat about the trade that they would go on record against their organization. I'm still not high on the trade, but I'll take any more positive spins I can get to make the deal more palatable to me. In Doug, I still trust... but I'm having a hard time with this one.
  18. [ Wow, Brewers. Way to give the Automator a nice birthday present. ] Yeah, no doubt. Being 30 sucks so far.
  19. I'm not saying people should put their Brewer goggles on, but to extrapolate and say that they know how the season is going to end 60 games away from it to me seems premature.
  20. [ That being said Brian, I respect you positive side, as well as endeer's, I just wish that I could be that patient.] I'm frustrated as hell, but I'm not looking for a razor blade or anything.
  21. [ I don't see your point, they won 83 games, that won't cut it to with the division this year. when you only need to win 83, it is fine as bad as they are on the road. ] Ok, the Braves won the division in 2005 (90 wins) with a 37-44 road record. If you want me to keep digging, I'm sure I could find some more. It's not as infrequent as people would think.
  22. [ Well, of course every poster on here won't die if they don't make the playoffs, but does that really matter? This site is for Brewer fans, and if they end up blowing the division, it's the end of the world as far as sports go. ] I'll say it again. It matters when that emotion causes people to treat each other with disrespect. That's not how we do things here.... particularly when people use terms like "stupid" and "foolish" (or pick any other derogatory adjective).
  23. [ And I'd really like to attack this idea (though not the person(s)) that things are never as good or as bad as they appear to be. Not true at all. In baseball, if you're not in first then they are as bad as they appear to be--period. First place is why everyone plays. There is no motivation greater or more important. The Brewers are in first place, but will soon vacate that position. That they had a significant lead makes it even badder than it appears to be even among pessimists. So the current situation is by definition bad right now. The fact is, it would be easier to be the Pirates right now than the Brewers. False hope and false talent is much worse than being flat out bad. ] To me, the emotion of falling out of first place to a team that's playing unbeatable baseball has no bearing on the fact that the Brewers still have a talented team that is capable of winning the division, and certainly the wildcard.
  24. [ then you have the Brewers this team will not stay in First if they can"t at the very Least Play 500 Baseball on the Road ] The Cardinals won the world series with a road record of 34-47.
  25. [ Shocking to think that people would be venting in the IGT after a gut-wrenching loss. Just shocking. ] I expect people to vent. I expect people not to break the site's rules because the Brewers lost. [ C'est la vie. At this point, I'd almost rather (temporarily) cede first place to the Cubs. Playing with a target on their back seems to be wearing the young Brewers down (or at least their fans). Playing the Hunter instead of the Hunted might make for a nice change of pace. ] There's always the WC. Seriously, if the Cubs for some reason happen to play insane-o baseball the rest of the way out, they deserve to win the division. I don't think they will, but all the Brewers have to worry about is winning enough games to at least take the WC. I'd rather have a pennant, but if someone sacrificed a goat on the north side of Chicago, there's nothing the Brewers can do to stop it. [ Which is my long-winded way of saying, I'm not going to agonize over this. Lots of season left, and it will be very interesting to see how this team finishes out, whatever happens. ] I agree... We've still got time to see more serieses being won, and more being lost. It's just a matter of who ends up being hotter for the longer period.
