  1. [ ESPN and realGM brewers board. Brewers team thread on ESPN looking at the guy's recent post, he hasnt posted any kind of rumors like this. ] I'd say it's totally unfounded....
  2. I would be shocked if the DBacks make that trade. Where was the rumor posted?
  3. [ Sounds like the Brewers are not on the no-trade list. ] Oddly, the no-trade list is a bunch of large-market clubs... I"m pretty sure the Brewers aren't on the list.
  4. [ He'll miss the Cubs too so it's a wash. ] I'll take it... every win the Brewers get is a decrease in the magic number, regardless of what the Cubs do... It's also a decrease in a potential wild card magic number.
  5. Latest from rotoworld: According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees turned down a deal for Eric Gagne that centered around Double-A pitching prospect Alan Horne. The Yankees are said to have already told the Rangers that Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are unavailable, which makes it difficult to see how a deal for Gagne could get done. Instead, they're reportedly offering some combination of Tyler Clippard, Matt DeSalvo, Jeff Marquez, Chase Wright and Scott Proctor. Hopefully this knocks the Yankees out of the running...
  6. The problem is that I'm just in a queue, so I don't know the exact point in which it'll be turned over. So, if I were to shut down the site, it could be for days, so I'll just roll the dice and take the chance that a post or two doesn't make it.
  7. We've been entered into the import que: Here's the Import FAQ. The bad news is that any posts made WHILE doing the import will be lost... I'm hopeful that the import process will not last long and the changeover will be somewhat seamless.
  8. For those who aren't aware, LaPorta made his professional debut for Helena tonight and homered on the first pitch.
  9. ...sometime within the next couple of days. Don't be shocked when things look/behave a bit different. Once the cutover happens, we'll start fine-tuning everything... I've seen a preview of what's on the way, and I think it's a really good upgrade for the site.
  10. [ Brian have you heard any rumors about Gagne to Milwaukee? ] I swear, if I have anything close to a solid rumor, I'll report it.
  11. Type A free agents... collect 'em all! Could you imagine if Linebrink, Cordero, and Gagne all walked and Mark A didn't skimp on signing bonuses? That would be insane.
  12. [ I'm not funny. ] We won't issue you a strike......... this time.
  13. [ What does that mean? ] If you put a comma after "on", it makes sense.
  14. [ He has that off the bench pinch runner speed that can come in extremely handy in late game situations, not to mention his defense is stellar. ] While that's true, it's hard to carry a bench player just for his legs and his defense... In September, it's a no-brainer, but in August and perhaps the postseason, it's an iffy call.
  15. [ If you watch, COCO is sleeping in the clubhouse the first five innings of a game. ] That really has no bearing on his side work or times where he's gotten ready and hasn't been used (although, I believe that's been pretty minimal). I don't think Coco's side work and warmups have been a factor, but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.
  16. If you find yourself banned for no reason, just shoot me a PM. I'm working on upgrading the site's security, and there might be some of you users (especially AOL users) who might find themselves as "collateral damage". If that's the case, I'll work quickly to unban you.
  17. Do not post trades in the major league forums until they are a done deal. Until then, they are rumors. And sorry to be a wet blanket, but please post feedback about the site and moderating policy in the Issues forum.
  18. [ Hopefully we'll designate Suppan for assignment and give his spot to Parra. ] Thus forfeiting 33M+ dollars?
  19. [ If you mean by "the planet" -- Venus, then I would agree. ] Let me rephrase... I don't believe Ned's the best manager in the league. I'm sure there are other managers in the league that could have the Brewers playing X many games (where X varies on your opinion of Yost) better than they're playing now overall... ...but I don't think there's a manager out there who would somehow have the Brewers playing winning ball on the road. ...unless somehow we could coax Earl Weaver out of retirement.
  20. [ I don't buy it,Miller Park isn't some ultra tiny bandbox. We went to play the Reds in that homerville park and got spanked. We scored enough to easily win 3-4 from the Cardinals and the pitching staff gagged it away. The Nationals are garbage, ballpark is no reason for the losing. You can look at so many of the road losses and the team just finds ways to gag away road games in fashions they don't do at home. The pitching staff in particular is much worse away from home and if Miller Park is so hitter friendly, then the pitchers should pitch better on the road, instead they fall apart.Nearly all teams play better at home, but the incredible disperity on the road is mind boggling and much more than us missing out on a few homers when we play in a bigger park.In fact,we have 73 homers at home and 70 on the road, that's not an explanation for being atrocious on the road. ] You make very good points. So, is it maybe that our outfielders stink at playing the various outfields at other parks?... I refuse to buy that there's just some bad mojo surrounding the team on the road, nor do I think Ned's got some weird road-managing scheme vs. home-managing scheme. Either: a) The team is _somehow_ constructed to be better at Miller Park b) Balls have fallen the team's way at home, and not fallen the team's way on the road for the past couple of years
  21. [ Would I like to see them win the division by 20 games? Sure, be alot less nerve-wracking, but then what's the fun in that?!? ] Well, the co-pays on my blood pressure medicine could have gone towards making improvements on the site..... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. I'll say: Hot streak Cold streak Hot streak Brewers win the division by 2 games.
  23. I've been exercising a lot. I have the satisfaction of knowing that if the Brewers lose, I've done something to better myself.
  24. [ I don't want to hear any more nonsense about how Brewers management still can't figure out why we lose on the road. We have had this problem for three years now. It's YOUR JOB to figure it out. If Doug and Ned can't figure out why we lose so much on the road, then hire someone who can figure it out. But to just sit here and tolerate this ineptitude year after year is ridiculous. ] To me, it's pretty simple. The team's built to play in Miller Park. Fly ball hitters and a home run friendly park... That's just the way it's going to be. The team's going to go gangbusters on home, and do less well on the road. To me, the key is amassing enough quality pitching to overcome some of the offensive shortcomings we'll see on the road from time to time... I think that's started, to some extent... However, Ben Sheets going down was huge, and Suppan's turned out to be more of a stinker than we expected so far. I don't think there's any manager on the planet that could make this current club a better road team... I agree with you that getting over the road hump is going to be the thing to take this team to the next level. It's all about pitching.
  25. [ Apparently, you have to have a "positive" thread, be one of the "moderators", or have thousands of posts to be able to start a thread. ] If you look around the site, you'll see that's a pretty inaccurate generalization and exaggeration. There are many threads where concerns about the team are raised... and there are several newer posters who have started threads. If you really need me to find several examples of this, let me know. The best approach is to pick one topic at a time, especially ones that aren't being covered in other threads, especially threads that are active and on the first page of threads in the major league forum.
