  1. The Cubs are definitely our allies at this point (except when we play them of course). I don't care how many times we play them yet, the division is a done deal and the Brewers are playing for the WC. I have felt that way for months and it has only been reinforced lately. The good news is they still see the Cardinals 6 times, the Phillies 3 more times, and the Mets 4 times. All the Brewers need to do is win some games. I posted my fears about the trip to Chicago and Philly a couple weeks ago and they are still there. Just gotta hold our own. Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, whadda you say...
  2. I blame Gagne's new baby. Little brat couldn't wait one more day?
  3. As of today... 1. Pujols 2. Berkman 3. Braun
  4. For many of you, you don't need proof of something to "know" it is important. Hell, we've got player quotes! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Define proof. As humans we have been blessed with the gifts of rational thought and deductive reasoning, whereby we can reasonably draw conclusions based on evidence and observations that may or may not show up on a stat sheet or some other means of quantifying results. You discount 'player quotes' because you can't directly correlate them to some sort of statistic...that doesn't mean they don't provide proof. Those quotes you refer to are from palyers, GM's, coaches, etc. saying they think it makes a difference. You are more or less saying that it doesn't; an argument supported by...What? Who is it that doesn't need proof to "know" it is (not) important?
  5. Good grief. Prior to last night, he had 400+ MLB AB's that suggest he may actually be a 3A player.
  6. I'll take guys that can play over good guys any day. Not sure why it has to be one or the other. I'll take both (Which seems to be what the Brewers have). The fact that the media and fans pretend that there's a one to one correlation between winning chemestry... Who's pretending that? I've seen suggestions that 'team chemistry' can help or hurt a team, but I have not seen anyone suggest a one to one correlation. I can understand why the stats crew argues against the existence/importance of 'chemistry' because it cannot be quantifiably measured and therefore doesn't fit the template, or their view of the game. I agree that talent is what matters most, but players attitudes, moods, relationships etc. obviously have a major impact on what they do with that talent. "It's the things you don't see, the little conversations by the lockers," said Melvin, who noted that holdover Craig Counsell also is influential in that regard. "They're talking baseball. "It's bringing it all together," said Yost. "It's all part of the plan. We've got the right veterans. When Doug looked at it, that's the first question he asked: 'How will this guy fit in the clubhouse?' We've got guys that are very calm and measured. That's not even talking about what they do on the field. That's the main thing everybody sees but the behind-the-scenes stuff is every bit as important, if not more."
  7. Boy, I dunno. You can get some pretty good seats during the week in September. Not to say they won't sell (I just bought a bunch), perhaps people will buy them because they are the only ones available, but I guess I'd be a little surprised. September 8th in particular - even though I am goung that night.
  8. Is anyone else a little freaked out by the 4 games at Philadelphia, followed by 3 games at Wrigley in mid-September? I certainly hope we pile up a bunch of wins between now and then, because that trip scares me.
  9. I beleive they had their attendance budget up around the 2.8 - 2.9 Million before the season started, and it looks as if that is right where they are headed, so I'm not sure those sellouts are going to make much difference. They may need them just to get to plan. If they average 40,000 the rest of the way, which I wouldn't necessarily bet on (those weeknights in Sept may still prove tough to fill), they will barely top that.
  10. Yeah, the way things have gone lately, if anyone is going to get skipped, I'm not sure Sheets shouldn't be the choice.
  11. I dunno. The pen logged plenty of inning in LA, and they are a man down as is with Torres seemingly unavailable at the moment. CG has an extra day off coming up. Add to that the fact that Sheets and Parra have not exactly been able to go too deep of late (with the lone exception of Sheets a couple starts ago), and I'm not sure it is that big of a deal. If he continues to throw 130 pitches, there is reason to be concerned, but if its is a one time thing...so be it.
  12. I will simply say I wish him luck with that prediction.
  13. Yet another tip of the cap to Melvin for bringing Kapler in. The guy has been a difference maker. Raise your hand if you saw that one coming.
  14. Yeah, I already said it somewhere on this board, perhaps in this thread...I don't see us catching the Cubs. They're just better, and that's ok. I'll worry about them when we play them in October (assuming they get past the DBacks or Dodgers).
  15. I'm not afraid to answer that question...the answer is always no. Duh!
  16. Agreed. I don't really care about the loss that much. it is not so bad that Sheets gave up those runs, although the manner in which it happened leaves something to be desired. Need to score more than 1 run.
  17. Gee, I don't know, perhaps the fact that he makes between 30-35 starts every year without fail, and has a career ERA just north of 3. Take off the anti-Cub glasses for a minute and look at the numbers. I am not necessarily saying he tops the list. Far from it, but you are an unabashed homer if you can't recognize that he is certainly more involved in the conversation than Sheets.
  18. I tend to agree. It is far from a bad day's work, but the difference between Sheets and Sabathia could not be more pronounced. Sheets is obviously very good, and never asked for the comparison, but its pretty clear this year and over the course of their careers, Sabathia is an Ace's Ace, and Sheets is more or less just a number 1 starter. What I mean by that is that he is a legitimate Number 1, but doesn't belong in the conversation with guys like Sabathia, Santana, Zambrano, Webb.. (not that anyone said he does).
  19. Gotta love Shouse sacraficing the body.
  20. Well, at least we'll know who to blame. Ned Yost of course.
  21. And? They are undoubtedly trying to make some money, but I actually do think for them it s probably a little more than that...I think they are trying to do something they think is kinda neat. I tend to agree with 'em. Whether its a rally monkey, thunder sticks, homer hankies, Its Gonna Happen (terrible), Cowboy up (worst ever), etc...everyone loves a gimmik.

  24. Yeah, I kinda like it. The song needs a little work, but the foundation is there. Certainly more clever than "Its Gonna Happen."
