  1. These series have typically drawn in the worst 'fans' f both teams - many there primarily to simply make their presence felt more than the others. I stopped going to Brewer-Cubs games a couple seasons ago. Hopefully, as the quality on the field improves, the quality of people enetering the park will improve as well.
  2. What exactly is it in the histories of Jeff Suppan, Dave Bush and Seth McClung that leads people to believe that Bush (in particular) and/or McClung are better options for the remainder of teh season than Jeff Suppan?

  4. So Dave Bush has had a good month or two at the same time Suppan is having a bad month or two - including having to go on the DL, and suddenly giving him Suppan's spot in the rotation is some sort of no-brainer? How come nobody made this argument two months ago? Oh wait, people did..only at that time it was that Bush didn't belong in the rotation. As for Suppan, I am not a big fan, and I have no idea if he will come around, but when's the last time he pitched well in June or July, or pitched poorly in August and September?
  5. Lou has had more talent (one could argue appreciably more),and more experienced talent than Yost for the enirety of his season and a half in Chicago, and has what to show for it - 3 more wins? The talent seems to have evened out a bit as this season has gone on (although I would still give the Cubs an edge), so I guess we'll see.
  6. Definitely CC against the Reds. If they go on to the playoffs, that will be the defining moment (although those HR's in St. Louis were pretty unbelieveable as well).
  7. Leaving Suppan in was definitely a head scratcher...While I can understand the reality that he really was a pitch away from getting out of the inning, and the bullpen had worked 4+ the previous night (I think), and he would obviously like to keep them fresh, the problem was there was no indication he was going to be able to make that one pitch. Was this just a case of being willing to risk Suppan taking a pounding and losing the battle in the interest of winning the war? Possible, but it seems he just made a bad decision.
  8. Forget about Kendall, etc. Problem in this one is the offense, that despite the late inning heroics the last few nights, continues to struggle. 6,000 LOB the last couple nights? One run through 6 innings? http://geekswhodrink.com/blog/media/5.1.07.PMIP.Jobu.jpg
  9. Corey hasn't exactly been hitting the cover off the ball lately...I have a hunch that assist is gonna be just the thing. Boy, this is fun.
  10. I didn't say he was Turnbow, I said it sounded like he may be turning into Turnbow. No doubt his overall numbers are still quite good. However since he started struggling around the middle of June, they aren't very good. Over the past 5 weeks or so he has 12.2 IP w/ 12 H, 14 ER, 14 BB, 12K, 9.95 ERA, 2.21 WHIP. If those aren't Turnbow numbers, I don't know what are. Now, obviously a good chance he'll turn it around, but his performance the last couple months is not at all unlike what happened to Turnbow toward the end of last year. Actually, there is a difference...Turnbow didn't give up HR's. Marmol has.
  11. I was listening to Lou talk about Marmol today and it dawned on me that it sounds a little bit like he's turning into Derrick Turnbow. He doesn't throw quite as hard, but he has ood fastball, and a devastating breaking ball that he currently can't seem to throw for strikes. The reslut has been a tendancy to try to overthrow his pitches and is consequently throwing even fewer strikes, is leaving bulls up in the zone, etc. Boy, one can only hope.
  12. How are the Brewers going to play themselves? 4-3 would be adequate, but given the opportunity in front of the Brewers, and the Cubs relative lack of success on the road coupled with the Brewers record at home, 5-2 would be succesful.
  13. Speaking of, if he didn't play football at ND, would there be anywhere near they hype around Cub Nation relative to this call up?
  14. Well considering the Brewers don't lose on the road, I woud expect them to go 8-0 on the 7 game homestand.
  15. Everything I heard on the Score and WGN the last couple hours, says Samardzija is going to be middle relief starting today.
  16. His job is to call the game and describe what is happening - not oretend that something that is happening is not happening. The fact that CC hadn't give up a hit into the 6th inning is rather significant, wouldn't you say? I don't need my intelligence insulted by having him pretend it isn't happening and not mention it for fear that doing so might have some sort of impact on what happens on the field. There is a reason the players don't talk to him - they're in the game, on the field...that could actually have an effect on the pitcher (depending on the pitcher, I suppose). A guy in the TV booth doesn't. I'd much prefer that he simply call teh game, instead of making some silly veiled references for ridiculous reasons.
