  1. Exactly what repercussions are you talking about? What exactly do you think Ypst tells the players, if not play and have fun. He has high expectations for them, as he should, and I assure you the players share those expectations. If ever there was a guy who is willing to give a player time to work through struggles i.e., play and have fun, it's Yost. Sometimes I really wonder what on earth some of you people are talking about.
  2. Funny, I just came here to post that after watching the video again just now, I'd be willing to bet it is an achilles problem, and I just noticed TooLiveBrew's post above. Upon closer inspection, I know that's where my money is at the moment. It does seem like those rather innocuous looking injuries often end up being the more serious ones. Since this is the Cubs we're talking about, who knows when we may actually find out.
  3. Fielder will hit, and when he does, he will more than likely bring the rest of the offense along with him - Hall and Braun in particular, not to mention Cameron. I think teh biggest thing right now is for Weeks to simply get on base. If he does that, I expect everyting else to fall into place nicely. The good news is, we are sitting at 8-5 or whatever it is, with the offense having done nothing, with GAllardo and Cameron due back in the next week or two. If a month from now, they still aren't hitting, there will be legitimate reason for concern.
  4. I will almost guarantee a stint on the DL. Obviously the calf will need to heal, but it looks to me like he got his ankle too. Pretty sure the Brewers will not be seeing Soriano when they head to Wrigley at the end of the month.
  5. Pretty good move. Provides some depth and protection, flexibility should a trade opportunity present itself, and come swith little or no risk. Fact is, we're probably two SP injuries away from him being in Milwaukee.
  6. Hey man, what can I tell you? Your original understanding would likely have been correct which is why I will refer back to my original question to the original post... Exactly what is this poor management of which you speak? It was the person who asked the question originally who brought up Yost's specific performance yesterday, and I simply showed him where he was wrong.
  7. On this we agree. Boy do I hate that. I have never cut my hair with a cheese grater either, but I know enough about it to know it would not be a good idea.
  8. Well, I actually didn't rant about "Yost Blinders" (what was that you were saying about inaccurate generalizations?). I asked for some clarification as to...Exactly what is this poor management of which you speak? Is that a rant? The response I got was something to the effect of keeping Mota in too long, etc. I then answered that with specific examples from yesterday - yes, in an attempt to demonstrate that criticism was driven almost entirely by a dislike of Ned Yost. Does it belong in this thread? Maybe not. But then again, when the entire premise of the original post is based 1/3 on an opinion that I happen to think is invalid and based on personall opinion of the manager, perhaps it does. Heck, who knows...had the original poster been able to provide a legitimate explanation to what he meant by poor managemen, maybe I would have chosen that option.
  9. We have already talked about this at length. Yost is lucky when it works and we get Yosted all the others. But if we switched pitchers every time there is a jam, the bullpen would be spent by june. What's the problem? I would suggest that what you (and many others) really want is the ability to state your opinions on Yost as fact without having to defend them. Again, what is wrong with questioning an opinion somebody states, or do we need to limit our responses to things like the original post to one word answers? Isn't that sort of what these boards are for? Personally, I am very interested to hear sheetswannabe response to my breakdown of yesterday's game/bullpen usage - exactly what alternative he would liked to have seen. Is that sort of discussion worthy of this board?
  10. I think all pretty much agree on Gallardo to the rotation, Bush to the pen, McClung to the street. Guess I'm not sure what Gabe Gross has shown in 2+ years to demonstrate that he is or deserves to be part of the Brewers plans in any capacity? Gwynn's option(s) seem to be the only argument for keeping Gabe Gross around. Obviously we're talking about a 5th outfielder here (perhaps 6th if you include Dillon), so not a big deal, and I'm not sure either Gwynn or Gross are part of the long-range equation, but for the last guy on the bench which is really what we're talking about here, I think Gwynn probably brings more to the party for this team right now. He's faster, plays much better defense, can steal a base, get from 1st to 3rd, etc., and I would say his trade value is probably higher as well. Still 2 weeks for an injury to occur to make this all moot, but if it doesn't, I'm having a hard time seeing the arguments for Gross remaining a Brewer.
  11. The initial post gave three options to pick from (Braun/Prince/Yost) -- inevitably someone is going to pick Yost and then posters like the above chime in with the same tired post telling people to watch the game and "enjoy themselves" adding nothing to the discussion. I don't necessarily care about the watch the game and enjoy yourself stuff, that's a seperate issue, but what's wrong with a poster questioning the validity of one of the three options, which is in effect what the post you cited was doing (I did it as well in a different post). Prince has no HRs. Braun has not been hitting. Those are facts. The original posters (misinformed in my opinion) opinion that Ned manages the bullpen poorly, is not. That opinion was presented as every bit the fact that the other two are by someone who clearly doesn't like Ned Yost. Not sure why questioning that is not adding to the discussion, or why it should be considered grounds for deleting a post.
  12. I see, so he's actually asking the guys on the roster to do their jobs. I guess that qualifies for poor management. There's 9 innings in every game, and somebody has to pitch them. Under your guidelines, who is gonna do that? When he starts pulling guys any time they get in trouble, are you gonna blame Ned for wearing out the bullpen too? Of course you will. He got lucky. That's a good one. Have you ever said, Ned was unlucky? Let's look at yesterday for example, and "leaving Mota in too long." Torres and Shouse had already worked. Gagne was obviously slotted for the 9th. There were runners on, so that eliminates Turnbow in your world (you should probably be giving Ned credit for not bringing him in), that leaves McClung and Riske. Do you want McClung brought in in that situations? So that actually leaves Riske. For whatever reason, Ned liked Mota in that situation better than Riske. Could it be because Riske worked 2 innings on Friday and his record with 1 day of rest vs. 0 or 2 is terrible? Could it be because over the course of his career, nearly half of Riske's inhereited runners come around to score? I don't know, but the fact is, had he gone with Riske or McClung and they gave it up, you'd criticize that as well. BTW, there is the pesky little detail of the fact that Mota got the 3 outs. The Ned blinders have gotten so unreasonable that even when he makes a correct decision that works out, people feel entitled to criticize without presenting an alternative.

  14. Interesting spot, but then again, Jenkins loves the sight of Jason Marquis on the mound.

  17. And in a couple weeks, the 2008 version of Branyan, Gabe Gross will likely qualify as well.
  18. I think you will consistently see numbers similar to last year for both players throughout their careers. These guys have HOF caliber talent. I guess I'm curious what indications, if any, there are that they could not maintain similar results over time? As for Prince and his weight, that has always been a concern of mine, but I honestly don't believe you will see his "career years" until he is DHing in the AL a few years from now.
  19. I think there is a significant chance - somewhere close to 100%, that you're out of your mind. My point is that if they are that affected by being 1 spot higher or lower in the line-up, then there is significant room for them to develop as players. They both obviously have natural talent. They now need to devlop a bit as players mentally and figure out that their spot in the lineup is not why they have gotten off to slow starts. As I said, get over it and hit.
  20. Can't believe Russel Branyan and his unbelieveable potential - that still remains untapped, wasn't the first guy mentioned.
  21. As for Yost's reasoning, lets not forget that this is also related in a way to Kendall batting 9th. The philosophy is all about maximizing opportunities for the Brewers 2 best hitters. Let's also not forget that this is not entirely Yost...the stats folks play a huge roll in this, just as they did with the Kendall thing. These are young superstar caliber players and they need to make the adjustment and for lack of a better term, make themselves better players. Alfonso Soriano refuses to make adjustments or make any sort of effort to hit anywhere but lead off and forces his managers to put him there. Is that teh approach we want out of these two guys? I know I don't. Get over it and hit.
  22. This team has shown steady and consistent improvement under Melvin, and by all accounts, that should continue this season. Exactly what failures ore you referring to? I didn't realize a GM had to be correct on 100% of his personnel moves to be succesful.
  23. What's up with Prince? From the sound of it, a scheduling conflict.
  24. Placebo is absolutely correct. The fact that they talked about it and want it changed, tells me it is completely mental with both of them right now and they are looking for easy answers. Would switching them potentially help them get past it and start hitting? Sure. Maybe it would, but what if it doesn't? What if he switched the line up and they still don't hit? The fact is, these guys just need to start hitting, and if they can overcome their struggles within the lineup configuration Ned prefers, where perhaps they are a bit uncomfortable at the moment, both they and the team will likely be better off for it. I would bet that Bill Hall, JJ, and Cprey Hart would all be "more comfortable" hitting in front of Braun and/or Fielder. Does that mean we should move them up? After all, they'd be more comfortable
  25. Gabe Gross is simply not a particularly good baseball player. He appears to have become the 2008 version of Russ Branyan. He is an All Star on BF.net, yet doesn't appear capable of doing a whole lot on the field.
