  1. Even dyed in the wool Cub fans are sick of Santo. I remember bringing this up with some Cub fan friends of mine years and years ago, and they didn't mind him because he was susch a Cub guy, and they could take it. Ask them about it today, and they're done with him.

  3. This week I will be practicing my guitar, and will happen to have the Brewer game on while I do so. Previously I would watch the Brewer game and practice my guitar while I did it. I sounds like a subtle difference I know, but trust me, this is gonna be big! Heck, if the Brewers get pounded, but I get those dastardly F chords down, it'll be a good week.
  4. A direct flight from Houston to Chicago can't cost more than $150.
  5. I've always liked the Padres - going back to '84 in particular. I really like them this year, and believe they will be the NL representative in the World Series.
  6. I can dig that, my thinking is that working only 4 innings in 10 days could make a world of difference for him, where I think that the fatigue of working far more often out of the bullpen may have accounted for some of his struggles. I guess I am deperately hoping that some rest can help him get back to form, and pitch well in the rotation the rest of the year. Given the current state of things, it looks like his return to the rotation this year is almost a certainty. Only question is will it be Wednesaday, or not for another week or two? Even with Sheets coming back, and understanding they are going to have to shut Gallardo down, we are basically down to 3 starters at the moment.
  7. Any chance that Villenueva returns to the rotation this week? We know for sure that Suppan will start Tuesday, and Bush on Friday, but with Vargas supposedly hurt, and definitely bad, Gallardo seemingly hitting the wall, and Capuano unreliable, doesn't Villenuava on Wednesday make some sense? He started in Nashville on Friday, which would make Wednesday regular rest. He pitched well, but went only 4 innings, so he will either be well rested, or still needs to be stretched out a bit. It would also put Gallardo, Parra and Capuano available to back him up if he can't go very deep into the game. We could then bring Sheets back on Thursday. Or, do they just throw Parra out there and wait another week or two until they need him, and then go with Villy in the rotation?
  8. So far so good with Melvin, but the results of next season will be the test, relative to how he makes the team better. The excuses are going to ring rather hollow after this year. People can blame Yost all they want, and he certainly burdens his share, but its Melvin who assembled the current group of starting pitchers that we run out there every night. Losing your Number 1 to the DL is a big blow for any team, but this situation goes well beyond being without Sheets. He has done a agreat job building. Next year we will see if he is the GM to get them to take the next step. I do have to say that the Linebrink deal is looking pretty bad right now.
  9. I beleive Prince Fielder's return will help the Brewers get a win today. I believe the Diamondbacks will beat the Cubs. I believe the Cardinals will beat the Braves. I believe that the Brewers will enter the Cub series just a half game back. I believe that Ben Sheets' return this week will provide a significant lift to this team. I believe the Brewers will take 2 of 3 from the Cubs. I believe the Brewers will be in first place on September 1st. I believe that the Cubs will win the division.
  10. Its defense, plain and simple (Having Webb doesn't hurt, but then again defense helps him too). The Brewers are pathetic defensively, the D-Backs are good. Bad defense means pitchers have to get more outs, throw more pitches, pitch with runner on. This in turn makes the starters' jobs tougher, leads to shorter starts, taxes the bullpen (who are also victimized by poor defense), and puts more pressure on the offense to score runs which leads to impatience, poor approaches at the plate etc. IMHO, if the Brewers were just average defensively, the NL Central race might already be decided in their favor.
  11. Oh it's entirely their responsibility, but saying that doesn't make the problem go away. I am having trouble figuring out how going down to 12 pitchers and adding GG makes the team better. Then again. DM has proven to be a pretty smart guy, so I'll assume he knows what he's doing.
  12. This is strange. The amount of work that bullpen has been getting and is likely to continue to get is suddenly less important that having an extra outfielder sitting in the dugout? Hopefully there is another shoe.
  13. Had you told me before the season that our rotation would be the biggest hole on this team, I'd have said you were nuts. Yet, here we are. They've been inconsistent at best, and have taken a huge toll on the bullpen. Unfortunatley, I think Melvin and Yost are left with few options but to continue sending Capuanao in particular out there and crossing their fingers. Just aren't many options at this point.
  14. Yeah, as great as Braun has been, someone who will have played the entire season is more deserving. Holliday and Fielder, in that order, right now.
  15. I believe Rickie Weeks will hit .275+ the rest of the season.
  16. Dare I say the Official I Believe thread? I believe the Brewers will be 3-4 games ahead of the Cubs 10 days or so from now, and find themselves firmly in the driver's seat in the Central.
  17. SeriesFinale = Well done!
  18. This may be what is referred to as writing on the wall. When's teh last time Villenueva got a batter out? I think it is entirely possible that he was sent out there today because he could be going away soon. The again, there is an off day tomorrow, and teh bullpen has been pretty well cashed the last few days as it is. Unfortunatley somebody has to pitch those innings even though the game is decided.

  21. Personally, I give a rat's behind how they Brewers win the division - so long as they do it. We've had injuries too. It all tends to even out.
  22. Yeah, they gotta do something with him. I don't claim to know what but, he's in trouble. Then again, if he fields that little tapper, who knows what might happen. What a mess.
  23. Blah, blah, blah...If the pitchers do their jobs - and that is EITHER Wise or Cordero, it is a complete non issue. Suppan was not in a major jam? Maybe not, haven't we all been down that road with Suppan this season? Couple more hits, the Phillies get a couple runs and a 5 run lead becomes much smaller. Once again, the benefit of hindsight allows for completrely unwartanted criticism. Two pitchers failed to get batters out, the pitcher and the 3B commit errors (I don't care what teh scoring was), and its bullpen mismanagement. Whatever.
  24. Dessens DFA'd would be my guess. I think Wise to DL with...well with something, is another possibility.
  25. Excellent point.
