  1. Miller bunts! Gwynn's around third! He's gonna try to score! Here's the throw to the plate and he is...SAFE! SAFE! The Brewers win it! The Brewers win it! Oh my God, the Brewers win it! There you go...Damian Miller.
  2. My initial reaction was Hart. I may have to go with fielder though. Perhaps that's my sentimental side, but ghe is such a naturally talented hitter, and likely to do what is necessary to get it done.

  4. milwaukeebrewers.com shows Telemundo as the only broadcast of the 9/30 game against SD. Is it safe to assume that isf that game has meaning, which it sure is looking liek it will, that accomodatiosn will be made? I am guessing that ESPN may be showing playoff impacting games that day. WMLW perhaps. Anyone know anything more about this, or is there a real possibility that we will be watching the most important game in 15 years via the high quality production of a Telemundo broadcast?
  5. With Lilly going for the Cubs (even though its on short rest), this is a huge start for Bush. They're all big obviously, but we need to win this one. Get the bats going early, and please Dave Bush, don't be bad.
  6. I like that whole Fall baseball atmosphere also - on TV. Cold is cold, and the roof should be closed when its cold. Watching that place rock on Saturday night though really got me hopiing that the Brewers are still in the thick of it when next week rolls around. I would love to see that place jammed and full of energy for the most meaningful games played around here in 15 years. This road trip is massive!
  7. Anything can happen...but usually doesn't. To suggest that the Cards weren't a pretty decent team last year is silly. They were well over .500 the majority of the year. Their 83 win season was for more a result of a couple losing streaks and a slump at the end of the year, than their WS title was a result of them simply getting hot in October. This years NL Central teams on the other hand, have been pretty consistently bad, and have had their records bolstered somewhat by hot streaks at one point or another.

  9. I agree that sometimes you have to recognize when the window is open, but the time is now for what exactly? What is the goal? The NL Central amounts to nothing more than a battle to determine the tallest midget...Does anyone believe that the Brewers, Cubs, or Cardinals have what it takes to advance through the playoffs to the WS? I sure don't. I am all for trying to go to the playoffs this year, and while acquiring Wickman probably wouldn't constitute abandoning the plan, I don't see the time as now. Shore up the rotation, figure out a way to improve the defense (another year of experience could be a good start for both), and the time may be next year.
  10. Especially when one of them is RAy King. Maybe we should get Wickman too. Talk about beefing up the bullpen.
  11. I think Yost blew it putting Aquino in that spot, but to be fair to Ned, Turnbow put him in an impossible situation. You stick with LH Shouse, or put a RH in there - Aquino, Spurling, Wise...None of whom can you safely assume would get the job done. Cordero would have been nice there, but I assume he was no where near warmed up or ready since the inning began with athree run lead...nor should he have been. Personally, I think Shouse has earned the right to try to get the out, but Pence is appreciably better against LH so definitley damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  12. McClung, Turnbow, Yost, Aquino all make their presence felt...and we're down to http://l.yimg.com/www.flickr.com/images/spaceball.gifhttp://l.yimg.com/www.flickr.com/images/spaceball.gifhttp://images.jupiterimages.com/common/detail/18/73/23107318.jpg

  14. His collegiate career, which led to his being teh 2nd overall pick, is definitely a huge factor....probably the biggest single factor. His minor league career was also very short, so maybe tough to judge - just as the past two seasons have been hampered by injury, but between what he did in college, and jsut watching him play, I think the potential is easy to see. Can he put it all together? I think we will find out over the next 13 months.
  15. It continues to look as if 85 or 86 wins (max) will win the NL Central. That gives the Brewers 9 or 10 losses to work with the rest of the way. Not sure they are capable of pulling that off, but with the rotation looking better of late, and Weeks and Hall in particular hitting again, 16-10 seems far from impossible. Beat Houston!
  16. I hate the Cubs, I hate that stupid song, I hate the Wrigley Field Ash Clowns, and most of all, I hate the Wrigley Field Ash Clowns singing that stupid song.
  17. I am 100% sorry I brought it up.
  18. Case in point. He never claimed it was scientific. 40% was his estimation of the talent gap. Guess I don't get why people would have such a problem with him saying that. You can argue with the precentage, but to quibble with him describing it that way, I just don't get.
  19. That is 100% false!
  20. I think you guys are getting overly hung up on the 40% thing - I don't really think its that ridiculous or hard to understand. I have no problem assigning a percentage to it to help at least try to quantify your opinion on the difference in talent on the teams. I think the Cubs have more talent, but to say 40% more seems high. I just don't think the talent gap is that wide.
  21. Steve Stone has said repeatedly throughout the year, and repeated again today that the Cubs have 40% more talent than the Brewers. Now, he undoubtedly is including experience in the general term talent, but do you buy this? I would say that the Cubs have more talent, but 40% sounds like a lot. Now, if true, either Lou Pinellia is no where near the manager people seem to think he is, or Ned Yost is getting a bad rap, since the teams have virtually the same record. I very much respect Steve Stone's opinions, and he is still convinced the Cubs will win the division. I think they probably will as well, but I have hope he is wrong and has lost a bit of objectivity and perhaps is clinging to that early 40% assertion since he was the one who made it.
  22. Took a different shot at the chorus and a second verse... Chorus: So bye-bye to the Miller Park Fans Just another gray October making off-season plans The loyal fans were losing their summer tans saying one more season straight down the can, one more season strainght down the can Did you try to work the math And say this could be our playoff path If we can win this many games Did you believe just one home run could make this autumn so much fun And how would it feel if we really won Well, I know that there is just no way 'Cause our players don't know how to play They've all packed in the year Man, I need another beer I was was an angry, upset baseball fan With an empty bottle and a dozen cans but I knew I was a Milwaukee man the day the Brewers died I started singin' [Chorus] This song has 6 verses I believe...we could be at this a while. http://www.rareexception.com/Garden/AmLyrics.php
  23. This season was a good test for Yost, and it appears that he will not be receiving a passing grade. Not that they needed to make the playoffs necessarily, but what appears to be another season well below .500 probably will seal his fate. Next year on the other hand will bring judgement day for Doug Melvin. He has this offseason to make this team better or it will be pretty obvious that he is a guy who is capable or building to a certain point, but perhaps not capable of taking the last couple steps. Some rather ovious miscalculations were made, particularly in the area of pitching and defense. Youth is certainly part of it, and a reason Melvin deserves more time (perhaps the same could be said for Yost) but its not all of it, and next year, that excuse simply won't fly anymore.
  24. If you boo Uecker, your home must be a cave the mountains of Afghanistan.
