  1. When watching the game I do remember taking note that Ned looked awfully pissed after Hardy's AB in the 7th - a ground out I believe - grimacing and shaking his head. This was before any of the hollering in the dugout was shown, so I think it is somewhat interesting that I noticed that, and I have to assume Hardy was in fact the player in question. Again, none of us knows exactly what he may have been mad about - seems logical to assume it was the ball he didn't field, but we don't know that. For all we know Hardy was out 'til 5AM the night before, and Ned was mad about that. Could have been something in teh first inning. Could have been anything.
  2. I also have to comment on the "spark" that a similar incident provided for the Cubs (along with Lou's tirade the next day)...that incident being the thing that turned the Cubs season around is a myth right up there with Bigfoot and attractive lesbians. You know why the Cubs got better? The shipped out their catcher who wasn't hitting and couldn't catch, they replaced guys like Izturis, Jones, Cedeno, and Eyre, with guys like Fontenot, Pie, Theriot, and Marmol (you know, guys who actually hit and got on base), and Carlos Zambrano stopped sucking. Piniella hated Barrettt anyway and that move was inevitable. It may have provided Zambrano some focus, but did anyone expect him to have a 5 ERA all year?
  3. This thread be designated the Official Wishful Thinking thread for those convinced that if only Ned Yost were replaced the Brewers will be in the World Series thread. Its interesting that all of the sudden, Ned Yost has lost the team, the players are ganging up against him, and Yost has lost control. I understand the short spirited argument in the dugout between two veteran players and their manager provides amo for those who would criticize Yost after he discovered a cure for cancer because it took him too long. It is interesting in that just 2 days earlier the Brewers played and won perhaps their most hard fought game of the year. Couldn't be that guys were hot, frustrated and lost control a little. I guess somewhere between midnight Tuesday and the 7th inning yesterday, Ned Yost lost the team. If they win tonight has he found them again?
  4. The whole team is underperforming? Really? Braun, Fielder, Graffanino, Hart, Jenkins, Bush, Gallardo, Parra, Shouse, Miller, Vargas, Sheets, Spurling, Turnbow...which of those guys is underperforming relative to career averages or expectations? If you name any of them, its your expectations that are the problem.
  5. OMG! Tell me you're joking. Funny how Estrada wasn't a talked about as a problem or a cancer here in Milwaukee until August 2nd. Now there is some shouting in the dugout, and suddenly he is a cancer again, and its Ned's fault. One more time...nobody knows exactly what happened, who was involved, or what it was about. BTW, Ned Yost didn't trade for him. Is that on Ned too? Maybe the Brewers should trade for every talented malcontent in the league since the manager can just work it out in the club house.
  6. WHAT!?!?!??!?!?! What seemed to be building? Nobody even knows exactly what happened, who was involved or what it was about, and now it has been building for a long time? As for that "anonymous quote" from some blowhole who supposedly heard some namesless faceless player said something, being some sort of smoking gun, c'mon. You're better than that. http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/user_images/pics/1/245000/ngbbs3c48f1755fcfb.jpg
  7. Viking188, get outta my head.
  8. That supposed comment (Warning: Consider the source - Michaels), could be interpreted many ways. Of course the "Yost is to blame for all of our losses" crowd will say that it means the players are no longer listening to Yost, and he has "lost them." More likely, the comment was something to the effect of, "Its up to us to fix this thing. Ned Yost can't do it for us."
  9. What do you think he should be doing?
  10. If there was really a God, how would he allow anyone to be a Brewer fan?
  11. I think thatmay be a tad extreme, unless of course you haven't been watching guys names Suppan, Capuano, Cordero, Turnbow, Estrada the last few weeks.
  12. Interesting question...Do they have the players? Yes, i think they do. How many will step up? Tougher to answer. Its going to take a strong effort by a lot of guys to get it done. I am slightly concerned about Braun after the past couple nights (perhaps premature, but it looks to me like he could be on the verge of a bit of a slump). Obviously everyone needs to contribute, but there are 5 guys in particular that I think need to be difference makers over the next couple months - Fielder, Hall, and Hardy, along with Suppan and Cordero. We need to score more consistently, Suppan needs to give the team a chance, and Cordero absolutely cannot blow any more saves (If we could turn around just 2 of his 5, the Brewers would still be 2.5 games up on the Cubs. Yes I know you can't do that, unless the Cubs get the same opportunity, but the point is we cannot snatch any more losses from the jaws of victory.)
  13. I think the only goal the team should have in mind right now is to win the next game. That's it - everyday until the season ends. From a fans perspective, because they are in position, I think playoffs should be the gaol. Maybe that wasn't appropriate on April 1st, but sitting here on August 1st, it is. Theoretically, a good 2 week or so stretch is all it would take. Are they capable of that? I think so. Just stay close or get ahead through August. Get Sheets back, a better Weeks back, maybe a waiver deal, and take the thing in Spetember. Their performance on the road tells me that is unlikely, but it is far from impossible.
  14. If his last 3 consecutive starts are any indication, I'm not sure he hasn't already snapped out of it. Lsts outing was a little rough but he still went 6.1 and gave up 4 runs. Not great, but far from unusual in today's MLB. The two prior to that were pretty stellar. He's not Jake Peavey and never will be. At this point Suppan is a far bigger problem.
  15. Therein lies the major problem in my opinion...I don't see this team becoming appreciably more consistent this season. There doesn't seem to be much to indicate that they will somehow mange to win a road game anytime soon.
  16. I'm sure it was tough, but I have to assume he took it fine. If he has a brain in his head he has to realize that he has barely been able to put a bat on a ball teh last couple months and was being far outperformed by Graffanino in particular. If he puts his focus on spending the next 3-4 weeks fixing himslef, he will be in a position to be heard from before this season is over. Pretty clear by this move that the Brewers are not messing around anymore. If you don't produce, we're going to get someone in here who can - 1st round pick or not.
  17. At this point though, if either team can put a modest hot stretch together, they probably secure the thing. I suspect that is likely to happen for the Cubs in August. The Brewers will probably be able to make it somewhat interesting in early September, but ultimatley the Cubs will hang on to win the division.
  18. This is how I feel. I completely respect and appreciate the work the mods do, as it is a big part of what makes this site desireable, but in my opinion the decision about tonight's game was a pretty silly one, and is a real disservice to the site and the work you do. I admit I never even read the "No IGT" thread because I thought it was a bad idea that would not be taken seriously. Apparently I should have put my .02 in. If the mods wanted/needed a night off, just say so, and don't call it something else. I assure you everyone would understand and appreciate that position. Chatting/talking about what is and has been an unbelieveable game tonight is what I thought this site was supposed to be about! Yet, a few decided that all needed a break. The site is community driven, drawing from the knowledge and enthusiasm of the die-hard fans of the club.
  19. Who threw the pitch that hit Mike Matheney in the face? Then again, that may be a poor comparison, since Matheney didn't even move when that ball it him - until he spit out a pint of blood and a couple of teeth of course.
  20. Hmmm...Very interesting.
  21. I'm getting yelled at by my wife for swearing at the TV about some tall skinny guy with a stupid goatee.
  22. In all my years, Internet discussion has impacted the outcomes of a grand total of zero games. So now I come to the good old reliable vent thread after the Brewers get 2 on with nodody out and can't score, and I can't do that because its locked. C'mon. Can we get serious people?
  23. MAkes sense in theory. Little too simplistic though. Have to play the match-up game sometimes, whether it be the next AB, or a few AB's down the line as it relates to guys you may or may not have available in the bullpen.
  24. I don't hate the Brewers, I hate myself!
