  1. Aren't the D-backs in first place? Isn't Byrns their most productive player? This make little sense, unless they just think they have no shot.

  3. CV is an interesting dilema. Starting to look as if he may not be any good to us the remainder of this year, but there is of course always next year and beyond. Looks as if MA nd DM are serious about not repeating the disater of last year, trying to make due with what they had in the form of guys like Eveland, Hendrickson, etc. You have to give something to get something, but I would say the obvious deal is probably the least likely. I said a couple days ago that if the Brewers are involved in a trade yet, it will be of the blockbuster variety, involving some big names from both the Brewers and the other team(s) involved. With the exception of FIelder, Braun, Gallardo, and maybe one or two others, anything could happen (but probably won't).
  4. Two words: Slump Busters! (Or is that supposed to be one word?)
  5. Poor line-ups? He gets criticized for playing Counsell and Graffanino, yet Weeks can't hit at all, and Hardy has been struggling. Bad bullpen calls? In the last two days these games have been coughed up using Cordero, Linebrink, Turnbow, and Villy. Who would you have him use? Once again, if the losses are on him, the wins are on him too. Which is it?

  7. July: Where all Brewer seasons go to die!
  8. So your position is that they are not trying when they play on the road?
  9. Let's just say that the Cubs gain another game today, and 1/2 game tomorrow night, so that hours before the trade deadline, the teams are tied for the division lead...Look inside the heads of Attanasio and Melvin, and tell me what their thoughts are... A. We need to do something now to make this team better and try to win this division. B. Our team is good, we've just hit a bead stretch, and we've got a great shot at outlasting the Cubs and winning the division (or the WC). C. I'm smart enough to know that the 24-10 start was a mirage and we aren't that good, I've had my eye on '08 since the season started anyway, and we're going to keep it that way. If we get lucky, so be it, but next year is the year. The Linebrink deal tells me they believe in this team and do have sincere designs on making the playoffs, so I am inclined to say the answer is B. The nice part about B is that it can also incorporate C. The downside is they will seriously disappoint the fans and reinforce old perceptions - "the more things change, the more they stay the same" if they "collapse" and come up short.
  10. I'd be willing to bet quite a sum of money that those will not actually be the match-ups. Even if they were - are we really looking at pitching match-ups froma series that is a month a way, and trying to project what is going to happen?
  11. No. Nor should he have as that would accomplish nothing. This team has been nothing if not resilient, and last night's pathetic performance was a real surprise. Yost going nuts on them would only serve to freak them out more and make the situation appear more dire than it actually may be.
  12. The Cubs will hit a rough patch (may be in the midst of it right now), the only questions are how long/bad will it be, and will the Brewers be able to win enough games to take advantage of it. Cubs will not play .700 ball the rest of the way, but they will certainly win their share.
  13. I am constantly reminding myself that my goal for this team at the beginning of the year was to watch meaningful games in September. It looks as if that could still happen (although after the last few days...). A 24-10 start definitely raised the stakes and did make it more fun, but it also set the stage for the current level of frustration. Fact remains (even though the Brewers are managing to let the Cards back in the race), that both the Brewers and Cubs are a couple good weeks away from having a very nice lead in the division if everything goes their way for a 10-14 day period. It could remain close all the way, but I have a feeling that one of those teams is going to find themselves needing to make up 4 or 5 games a couple weeks from now.
  14. The way today has gone, my gut tells me that 2 weeks or so from now, the Brewers are either going to be 4-5 games up, or 4-5 games back. That's based on nothing but a hunch - but, if correct, this is either going to be very fun, or very much like the life of a Brewer fan.
  15. I certainly don't see any minor moves being made at this point - don't know that there are any minor one's to be made. If the Brewers are involved in any more trades, I suspect it would be of the blockbuster variety, involving multiple big names, and I would say that is highly unlikely.
  16. Cubs can't afford to play him right now - he is an automaitic out against lefties.
  17. Nah, not going to be an issue.
  18. This team is rapidly becoming a joke. I don't care how well you play at home, when you are this pathetic on the road you have no shot at the playoffs.
  19. . Maybe Ben Sheets should hold golves while he's pitching.
  20. Is the Left Fielder in the Brewers' lineup on August 1st currently on the roster?
  21. I think Braun for Ricky Bones, Jose Valentin and Matt Mieske would be a good deal for the Brewers.
  22. Obviously that is the ultimate goal of every team, but to take a peek inside the heads of Attanasio and Melvin, is that the goal this year, or, is this another season of getting better, with an eye on the future? I would say it appears that Jim Hendry, Lou Piniella and company do have their sights set on the WS, so as the deadline approaches what is the Brewers position? Will they go for it, stand pat, or perhaps even make a move aimed at getting better next year and beyond? What's your opinion on our contender status, and what do you believe Attanasio/Melvin's opinion(s) to be?
  23. We will probably never have to see Balfour again (at least not after the double header this weekend).
  24. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Obviuousy when you are in extra inning on the road, the home team basically gets 2 AB's to your 1 (including the bottom of teh 9th), and with the pichers having to hit, you only have so many options. I can appreciate the argument that CoCo should have been brought in last night after Balfour allowed a runner or two, (and that the Balfour experiment should be brought to an immediate end), but overall, or on a philosphical level, I do agree with saving your closer in that situation because the home team always gets another AB. Seems silly to be having this discussion though, since that situation never should have happened - on a general level, this topic probably assumes that you have an offense capable of scrating out 1 run, when you have bases loaded with nobody out, along with multiple other opportunites to score a second run in 12 innings! Ned did what he had to do, the offense didn't.
