  1. Red Robin has good fries. They're steak fries with tasty seasoning. A nice change of pace from most other chains.
  2. This is one of the most preposterous things I've read on this site. No sane person would bet a house against nothing even if the odds of what they were betting on were a million to one. Throwing out something like this does not really make people's confidence in the Brewers missing the playoffs any more clear.
  3. I would say the lesson that was learned from this season is that pitching depth is vital for success. The problem has really been that we have no depth at all more than anything else. 3 of our starters in the rotation going into the season have been awful, which has nothing to do with depth. Bush getting hurt and being replaced by Burns has been the only real depth problem, and I think it's safe to say this staff would still be pretty crappy even if that injury hadn't taken place.
  4. Remember Alex Sanchez? And Bill Hall? And Brady Clark?...
  5. I don't know. Kendall still plays almost every single day, so I'm not sure anyone in the organization realizes it. The front office and coaching staff seem convinced that his veteran leadership and game-calling abilities make him valuable, no matter how bad he hits or how few baserunners he throws out -- that mindset being the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back again next year.
  6. It's kind of interesting that you'd put these two thoughts right next to each other, because wanting somebody to stick around based on a limited period of success is exactly why we still have Bill Hall right now. Just imagine if we could go back and trade Bill Hall after the 2006 season. I have a sneaking suspicion McGehee could turn out to be a similar case. I think Melvin missed the boat on "selling high" already a few times -- Hall and Hardy being the prime examples, and I really don't want to see it happen again. Particularly when the organization is in such dire need of arms. We have oodles of position players which gives us a lot of flexibility, especially if Lopez sticks around somehow.
  7. Or even if he couldn't be part of a deal that would get us major league ready starting pitching, hopefully at least one or more decent SP prospects. This organization desperately needs starters from top to bottom...
  8. Looking forward to this offseason, it seems clear that a strong possible course of action for the Brewers would be to try and unload some of their position players for starting pitching. While there has been a lot of discussion about trading Hardy and Hart, is it possible that (if he continues to hit well) Casey McGehee would net the greatest return? He's only 26. He's very cheap. He can play 3B and 2B. We will have Gamel and Weeks going into next year, and while McGehee would be a great super-sub, this team needs pitching more than infield depth. He currently has an OPS over .900. Trading him seems like it would be the definition of selling high. I can't imagine there wouldn't be teams interested. The only other thing I could think of to do with him would be trying him out in RF and trading Hart, but I'm not sure how well/quickly McGehee could make that adjustment, and it seems likely that he would be a more valuable trading chip than Hart at this point. One more option would be trading Fielder (who would bring back the best return), move Gamel to 1B, and hand the 3B job to McGehee. Thoughts?
  9. Steps 2 & 3: FAIL
  10. Why? Because he signed Corey Patterson. Go Mariners.
  11. I'll be honest. I just don't like Vargas, or watching him pitch. He rarely makes it past 5 innings. He pitches at a snail's pace. We gave up Doug Davis to get him and Estrada, and now ironically have traded to get Vargas back (after releasing him) because we couldn't get Davis back. People claimed he was a good clutch pitcher during the first couple months of 2007 because he somehow managed to keep his ERA respectable by miraculously escaping bases-loaded-no-out jams a few times. Finally, his luck ran out and he was as bad as expected. If we had obtained somebody else of similar quality, I might not be as annoyed as I am with having it be Vargas. Although I still wouldn't really be happy with these kind of garbage-shuffling, spinning-our-tires type of transactions either way.
  12. Might as well add Jamey Wright to that list as well. ...and Victor Santos.
  13. It's magnified this year. He started opening day, and has been left in too long on several occasions due to the rest of the starting rotation being unable to eat up innings. And I do think he is actually worse than in 2007 as well.
  14. Me either. Just next year. I don't see any possible way Melvin can put together a formidable rotation (unless something crazy happens like he puckers up and can get Sheets to sign a 1-year deal) in 2010. We have exactly one good starting pitcher right now, no close prospects, and don't really have the organizational depth to trade for much more.
  15. You might as well tell him you won't need off during October 2010 either, while you're at it...
  16. I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, because the last thing I think is that she "deserved this." Especially the hidden camera thing. That was just insanely wrong. That's a given. However, doesn't paparazzi parking by your house kind of come with the territory of being a celebrity? It's not as though invasions of privacy are an unknown aspect of becoming famous, yet it never seems to be enough to stop people from seeking fame. I guess I just never feel that badly about the paparazzi bothering celebs because the celebs should know that it's part of the business they strive to get into. I bet when she was first getting started at ESPN, Erin Andrews would have been stoked if some reporters stopped by her house and wanted to interview her...
  17. Thanks. I'm a casual MMA follower, as you can probably tell. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I take it this was to be their last event then? Again, I wonder why they wouldn't try to figure out some way to keep Fedor on the card.
  18. How does Fedor's Affliction contract work? Is it a certain number of fights? And if so, does this cancellation of his upcoming bout have any effect on his contractual status? I'm surprised Affliction isn't trying to find a fill-in to fight him, although maybe Fedor wouldn't have to agree to a different opponent.
  19. Oh, and I also had a dream once that the "Lethal Weapon" movie series was resurrected when Russell Branyan, and an African-American CGI Russell Branyan, replaced Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
  20. Late last season, I had a dream that the Brewers had a 3 game lead for a postseason spot, with 4 games left to play. They lost every game and missed the playoffs. It was an awful dream, and when the Brewers were getting whipped in Philly last September, I began thinking that dream was more of an omen. Thankfully, the Mets bad dreams turned out to be worse than mine...
  21. With pitching this bad, and nothing on the horizon, realistically how much hope is there for next year? Yeah. The team's complete lack of ability to develop any pitching prospects outside of Gallardo is haunting them, and will most likely continue to do so for at least another year.
  22. Ask, and you shall receive... (props to AJAY, who I believe was the first to post this picture many moons ago) http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1407/baghead.jpg
  23. Well, Hall also posted a .837 OPS in 500+ plate appearances in 2005 -- so the 2006 monster season wasn't exactly out of nowhere. I've never really faulted Melvin for the deal he gave Hall. At the time, it really did seem like a smart move. I do, however, fault him for continuing to let Hall's contract dictate infield roster moves (see: Branyan, Russell) when Hall has been brutal for 3 seasons now.
  24. I'm not sure that's true. The story I remember is that Branyan contacted Melvin, Melvin said he wasn't interested but put him in contact with Jack Z. And again, who's fault is it anyway that Melvin chose Hall to start over Branyan entering the season? Most of the excuses I keep hearing lead directly back to DM's doorstep.
