  1. Perhaps "panicking about a phantom injury" and "grasping at straws" were not an entirely accurate portrayal of this situation?
  2. I imagine that they started investigating Pete Rose's betting after being tipped off by rumors. Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I think tipping pitches to an opponent is a pretty egregious act -- definitely worthy of follow-up.
  3. So, has the commissioner's office ever responded in any way to the pitch-tipping allegation? To me, that's worse than steroids, and is up there with what Pete Rose did. As another poster pointed out, it is a blatant slap in the face to the integrity of the game. It looks like Rodriguez is continuing to go about getting ready to play with no sign of an investigation or discipline. Is MLB going to do anything, or just pretend it didn't happen and hope it goes away??
  4. It amazes me how many people still don't do this. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury to do this. Many employers are very intolerant of missing any work, even due to illness. This is particularly true for anybody who's a temp somewhere. Somebody misses a couple of days, the company decides that person is unreliable or unmotivated, and they're gone. I saw it all the time at more than one of my former workplaces. The last place I worked considered anything over 2 absences in a year as "excessive."
  5. Another very nice outing by Suppan tonight. No walks in 6.1 innings is very encouraging. His overall ERA is still up near 6.00, but these last few starts have gone a long way toward giving me more confidence than I had in him to start the season.
  6. It's in the article, so it's being reported. And there was more than the Canseco speculation:
  7. 3 vs AZI (1-2) 2 @ PIT (2-0) 2 @ CIN (1-1) 3 vs CHI (1-2) 3 vs FLA (1-2) 3 @ STL (1-2) 3 @ HOU (2-1) 3 @ MIN (0-3) 3 vs STL (2-1) 3 vs CIN (2-1) 13-15
  8. Yeah, I just saw now that he's back in the lineup today with 2 hits (including a HR) and 2 BB. I really hope he keeps this up and is able to stay healthy. His OPS is currently 1.057.
  9. Looks like Branyan is laid up again, after a nice start for the Mariners. He missed the past week with back problems, and tried taking BP on Thursday but was unable to do so. It's so frustrating to see that he just can't stay on the field long enough to put together a full great season. Oh Russell, why must you be such a tease??
  10. Dear Jerk, Don't go to college right out of high school just for the sake of going. You're going to spend waaaay too much money wandering toward your 4-year University degree, and would be much better off waiting until you know what you want to do, then getting a focused Technical or Associate's degree. And stop being a sissy and go hard after some random while you can. You won't be able to forever. You're not getting any thinner, and you'll have plenty of time for relationships. Sincerely, Person who is still not very intelligent, but still more intelligent than you
  11. It looks as though BCU has recently returned from self-imposed exile. Surprised I'm the first to notice. Anyhow, welcome back to BCU.

  13. Weeks throw to first on the attempted DP in the ninth seems to be exactly what the original poster's concern is all about. If he steps into that and makes a strong throw, that'a a DP. Instead he does that sidearm flip, the ball travels without much zip, and the runner barely beats the throw. That could have turned into a big deal, as the Phils almost tied the game. I guess the lollipop throws are better than spiking it in the dirt, which he did too often last year.
  14. Well, the Brewers are tops in the NL for issuing walks, and some teams have played an additional game. So, on that front, I'd agree with MJLiverock that the Brewers problems right now go beyond the "every team has trouble throwing strikes in April" issue. The Brewers are having more problems issuing BB than any other team, and have done it far too often with the bases loaded. I don't think yelling is the answer. For starters, getting "spring training all-stars" like Jorge Julio off the team should help. This is a Melvin issue more than a Macha/Castro issue, IMO.
  15. Weren't you concerned about the large bandage in the shape of an X on Fielder's belly? You really should have informed brewerfan about it at the time, so we could debate its significance.
  16. Really? Not being able to throw strikes makes him mentally soft? Was he mentally tough last year when he had his very good stretch? Parra seems to have a "deer in the headlights" look about him when he's on the mound...I don't know that that makes him "mentally soft," but I've noticed it every time he pitches, and I find it just a little disturbing. As caveman-ish as this may sound, I kind of questioned his toughness a little bit since the Fielder incident from last year. Granted, Fielder is a beast, and few men would want to tangle with him, but the way Parra just let him shove him around without doing ANYTHING was kind of pathetic. At least stand up and yell something back -- get in his face a little bit just to stand your ground. Parra just sat down on the bench, and when they showed a closeup of him, it looked like he was about to cry.
  17. My buddy recently got me to start watching this show, and it's really great. Watched the first season on DVD and just got caught up with season 2 on my DVR. I'd say it's the best thing on television since The Wire. Who knew Tim Watley was such a good actor?
  18. There's lots and lots of data available on wind and weather patterns.
  19. True, however he still deserves credit for rectifying the situation quickly, which is something that hardly happened under a certain former manager who was very stubborn and slow to correct mistakes.
  20. Hardy isn't going to be cold forever. Also, I think he has stated a preference for the #2 spot, and his OPS was .887 last year from that spot, compared to a much lower OPS during his 219 at-bats at other spots in the order. Although that could just be random noise. As for Hart batting 6th, I think his speed would be better utilized there. It's a big risk to ever send him now with Braun/Prince coming up. Cameron's power (if he were to bat 5th) should protect Fielder fine.
  21. Yeah, I think I'd like to see: Hardy at #2 Cameron at #5 Hart at #6
  22. Regardless of the reasoning, it's something that never would have happened under the previous regime. Good stuff, and a nice victory today.
  23. Awesome. Anybody who claims the Brewers aren't getting any lucky breaks aren't watching the same Brewers I am...
  24. Actually, he specifically requested some "positive reinforcement" from his fellow Brewer fans, for support during this tough stretch (now 3-8). He didn't say one vent or negative thing, other than the fact that he's finding it hard to get excited about this team. It seems to somehow make you upset that not everyone can "keep things in perspective" the way you can. Well, guess what -- following baseball is an emotional sport for many people, and they don't always follow it as though it is some kind of computer simulation in which the longterm result has already been approximately decided by projections. So, instead of offering any positive reinforcement, your began your response by acting like a condescending jerk. Seriously, I know you like to leave your mark in every single thread on this entire board, but would it have been that difficult to just offer support or not comment at all?
