  1. "They're not gonna pitch around Prince too long with me behind him," said Braun without even a hint of cockiness. That quote is from http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080310&content_id=2417751&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil. How can you not love this guy? He is that good, and he knows it. He doesn't say other guys are not good, he doesn't say no one can beat him, he just says "I can do this, and I will." You have to love that - it's why he can hit like he does, and it's why he's going to be an outstanding outfielder sooner than later - he knows what he can do, and that's just the way it is for him. I'm sure fans of other teams are going to hate him, and think he's arrogant, etc, but I don't think that's the case. I think he just knows he's good, so he expects good results. I already hope Braun plays his whole career in Milwaukee.
  2. According to ESPN Insider, the Red Sox have no interest in Marquis.
  3. Am I the only one that sees the absence of hitting by just about all the regulars. Braun's numbers are excellent, he's excused, but I do see what you see, especially with Weeks and Hart. This is why I hate spring stats, they probably mean nothing, but...
  4. 1. Chris Carpenter isn't back yet, and may never be the same. 2. Mark Mulder isn't back yet, and may never be the same. 3. Albert Pujols already knows he needs reconstructive elbow surgery, postponing it is only impacting the 2009 season. 4. Juan Gonzalez...yes, THAT Juan Gonzalez may see significant at-bats for this team. 5. The farm system does have Colby Rasmus, but it does not have enough MLB-ready talent to plug the gaps. I think they've hit the iceberg, it's time for Pirates fans to actually taunt someone.
  5. If Yost thinks that Kendall will indeed match his .375 career OBP, he should bat him 2nd, not 9th. My issue with that is, Kendall will not be in the lineup 25% of the time, that means one of the other regulars would hit second 25% of the time, and hit down in the order 75% of the time, I'm not in favor of that. I think Kendall at nine is worth trying, it actually makes sense to me. Reducing double plays makes sense, and so does having a runner on for Weeks, which is more likely with Kendall at nine. I don't mind the pitchers dropping a bunt down every time up, to see if Kendall can drive a guy in with a base hit, I'd rather try that than hope Kendall doesn't hit a sharp grounder with a runner on first. The pitchers can bat ninth 25% of the time, I think this is at least worth trying.
  6. I can't stand it, I must have spring!? I must have baseball!? Talk to me James Earl! What movies, memories, photos, etc get you ready for baseball?
  7. Along the lines of PIN number, would be baseball's own RBIs. Can one have Runs Batted Ins?
  8. When I read the comment about the well finally beginning to run dry for the Brewers, I wondered if the author was aware of the extra picks the team will have this year. The guys who built the system are still in place, and they're well-armed for June....RAIN...THE CROPS ARE SAVED! Totally agree on the Devil Rays though, the countless high draft choices have them overloaded with potential. I'm rooting hard for the day when this team makes a real move in their division.
  9. My doctor tells me Type 2 diabetes is now his most common diagnosis. Things have changed so much that they've had to rename them Type 1 and Type 2 instead of Juvenile Diabetes and Adult Onset Diabetes...because "Adult Onset" is now commonly seen in teenagers. Obesity is the culprit, and unfortunately, Dmitri fits the description, David Wells is dealing with it too.
  10. I'll go back to the one that started this thread...nucular...still bugs me.
  11. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa319/toddecopp/boryan.jpg OK, so he's college....I still think he's it.
  12. I'd send Pujols for surgery, and make certain Rasmus doesn't burn a full year this year - that team will not compete, and could actually finish in last place.
  13. Can't you just see a baseball-related dating site? "Hey Baby.....what's your steal sign?" Good God, I hope that never happens!

  16. Baltimore has renewed Nick Markakis at $455,000, so now he's mad too. Cole Hamels wasn't happy that the Phillies renewed him either, and none of this changes anything. Anger seems to fuel Prince, whether it's his dad, his contract, Moneyball, or whatever. That being the case, I'd like to be the first to say, "Bet you can't hit the top of the scoreboard! You're overweight, and will never amount to anything! Hey, look over there, it's Matt Capps and Billy Beane...." Next season someone else will be pouting, while Prince is making eight figures, and people will think that's a big story too. It's just part of the deal, only the names change from one spring to the next.
  17. If he wrote this just to mess with his buddy, ok, but if he intended this to be a serious discussion of the Cubs, Brewers, or Milwaukee, this is a shallow, inaccurate waste of space. Bill Hall was not a horrible defensive shortstop, and is obviously an upgrade at 3B, yes, the Brewers will actually play someone in CF while Cameron is out, and you're right, Hardy, Weeks, Fielder and Braun stand no chance of ever improving on defense, they're clearly on the way down at this age. The Cubs do not have one of the deepest rotations in baseball, they merely have a lot of pitchers....there's a difference. I'll bet this guy lives with his mom.
  18. TradeGwynnNOw, TradeGwynnNow, TradeGwynnNow!
  19. I'm not going to hijack the thread by laying out the whole thing, but I know of at least two other players who played without a contract for an entire season in the 1970s, this helped start the movement for free agency. On Simmons, he was perhaps the best sign stealer of his generation, he knew the hitters inside and out, and was as close to a pitching coach on the field as any catcher will ever be. Adding him was a great hire, the rockheads who vote for the Hall of Fame may have completely whiffed on Simmons, but those who played with and against him have never stopped praising him.
  20. We had a thread guessing how many HR each Brewer would hit this year, for Kendall, I answered "One less than Gallardo, whatever number that is." It's no joke, it'll be close.
  21. I believe Twisted Testicle used to open for The Clash. Wow, I would never wish this stuff on anyone, beyond Soriano's garden variety baseball injury, we have a heart condition, a robbery, and an injury which will have 98% of the BF.net user base turning pale for the next three hours.
  22. These stories happen every spring, this changes nothing. The Brewers would love to sign Prince to a five year deal right now, but Mr Boras doesn't do that. Like it or not, renew now or not, this one is etched in stone. Don't worry about it, or you'll miss the high side of having Prince here in the first place, the man will file for free agency after his sixth season, that became fact the minute he went with Boras.
  23. There are many possibilities. First off, almost none of the current relievers are signed beyond this year, a fresh batch of one-year veterans is always possible. I also think Pena will at least get a shot at 8th innings if he has a solid season in AAA. With so many draft picks this year, it makes sense to me to take a shot at a college closer, some of them move very quickly, as in Chad Cordero and Huston Street. One other possibility would be jumping into the bidding war for Joe Nathan. Nathan wants to allow his family to stay where they are in Minnesota, which would probably be possible if he signed with the Brewers. Forget what you knew about payroll limits in Milwaukee, until Mr Attanasio stops spending, none of us knows what he's willing to pay for players.
  24. Ryan Howard and Matt Holliday have to be on the list.
  25. I'll give Doug a B-. I thought the move to add Mota was very curious, and it's the move I have the least confidence in, but I guess that's why the team has scouts. On the plus side - Kendall over Estrada, though I admit that's mostly about Estrada, Cameron is the best defensive player on the team, and his addition allowed the perfectly logical moves of Hall and Braun that should have happened a year ago. I also like adding vets to the bullpen, I do believe the relief corps will be better than last year overall. On the negative side - I don't trust Gagne, he was a logical choice given the available options, but I think anyone would rather have Cordero right now. The other thing I don't like is the HUGE right-handed tilt of the lineup. Maybe that won't be a factor, and I understand how the team got there, but it looks exploitable to me. I do think Doug did the best he could with the options he was given, and I do think the team is better prepared than it was a year ago, with better bullpen depth and a markedly improved defensive alignment. I'm sure Doug would agree, it would have been nice to keep Cordero, and it would have been nice to grab a solid lefty bat somewhere along the way.
