  1. I also reserve some scorn for people who clear their sidewalks up to the curb cut and then stop. I see you've met my next-door-neighbor. I finally just took my snowblower down there and cleared it myself, there's a very elderly couple who walk down our block every day, and they were trying to navigate through an absolute disaster.
  2. I will, at very least, withhold final judgement until after the upcoming draft.
  3. 8:12 p.m., from Steve Phillips • The Mets offered Aaron Heilman, Carlos Gomez and Philip Humber for Erik Bedard.
  4. The Reds are trying to get in on Bedard, building their offer around Homer Bailey, rotoworld has it.
  5. There's really no detail provided, but this has been a credible source. Metsblog.com says the Mets are making progress on Bedard. http://www.metsblog.com/2007/12/03/buzz-mets-work-with-os-on-bedard/
  6. It sounds as though Dukes is heading to the Nationals.
  7. "There is no starting spot for Luke Scott....once the Matsui deal is finalized, Chris Burke could be shipped out." -Houston Chronicle Houston wants starting pitching.
  8. It would be better to pay Johnny Estrada $3-4 million to be bad for one year than Schneider over $10 million to be worse for two years. -Keith Law, ESPN He thinks the Mets absolutely gave Milledge away, and that quote made me laugh.
  9. The money absolutely should be a holdup, this could be a great move, but it could also be an enormous disaster. If Rolen can't produce, we're likely to deal away a solid player when these guys start rolling through arby. I wouldn't do it, unless the Cards assume some of the financial risk. I thought Mench's name would show up here, and I had wondered about Gwynn too. The Cards had been linked to Mench before, and he would serve no purpose in Milwaukee if Braun takes an outfield spot. There's some urgency on this one, the arby deadline is upon us. Oh, one other thing, I think I'd take Franklin. Flores looks like a guy who has a job because he's left-handed, and he fits in the suit.
  10. I was thinking the same thing, RyDogg, Roth sounds horrible. I love Van Halen, and I may go to that show, but hearing that actually made me stop to reconsider.
  11. Coin toss....other thread won.
  12. These talks are temporarily on hold, until the Dodgers make a decision on Miguel Cabrera. Baltimore and Florida are asking for a lot of the same players in return, so the Dodgers have to decide which player to pursue.
  13. No, I wouldn't do that. I like Hall's skills, I think he just had a bad year last year.
  14. If anything I could see a couple of their picks signing quickly for below slot value. Absolutely, the Brewers are very good at evaluating a player's talent, as well as his signability prior to the draft. It does you no good to have extra picks if you use them on guys who never sign. This is also why I think a college closer may be taken somewhere in the mix, grab a kid who didn't expect to be taken quite so high, pay him more than he was expecting, which could still be less than slot value, and get him moving quickly. I thought the LaPorta selection was brilliant. This is a player who projects to fill a need fairly quickly, and still, he hadn't expected to go that high, so he was actually grateful and eager to sign.
  15. Wow Brian, you totally nailed that one, that may be the funniest thing I've ever seen on this site!
  16. I don't like cranberry sauce. I love a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but I've never seen the appeal of can-shaped blobs of red goo.
  17. Since the rate of failure for young pitchers is so high, and since it's too expensive to trade for, or sign them away from other teams - this looks like the perfect time to carpet bomb the pitching position. If there's a bat that really stands out, go ahead, otherwise, it's arms all day.
  18. I was going to make the same two points Al did, I'd draft a catcher every year, they're hard enough to develop for your own team, and if you hit on two, you have a golden trading chip. Are there any college closers that might be considered in the first round? A reliever who will reach Milwaukee quickly seems to make sense right now.
  19. Jim Hendry meets with Matsui in California, the Cubs aren't giving up. Oh Goody! An NL Central bidding war for a player who isn't worth it! http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/660402,CST-SPT-cub21.article
  20. Cleveland has signed its first-ever Japanese free agent, reliever Masahide Kobayashi. Kobyashi is a nine-year veteran of the Japanese Pacific League, he has been an effective pitcher over there, and this contract is not outrageous. I promise I won't say it every time a Japanese player signs, but if the Indians can attract an Asian free agent to Cleveland.....why not Milwaukee? Kobayashi
  21. He's a FA in 12 months. Good point, next year when the Mets let him walk, we'll hear the team that signs him say "He calls a good game." This deal seems just like Clark for Dessens - just taking the guy and expecting nothing - maybe you're wrong.
  22. This shows you how badly the team wanted to be rid of Estrada. Who wants to bet on the Mets dealing him twelve months from now?
  23. Doesn't Matsui also have a chronic back issue?
  24. This one isn't signed yet, but it seems as though the Rockies are conceding the point. It says here that Houston will most likely look to move Burke and Scott for a starting pitcher. Astros closing in I like Matsui in Houston, because the Cubs wanted him to help them recruit Fukudome - I don't want him anywhere near Wrigley.
  25. 1. Weeks 2. Johnson 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Hart 6. Francoeur 7. Hardy 8. Catcher That's a lot of fun to read, and no fun at all to pitch to. I think that's the best lineup in the National League if it happens - all still improving and all still affordable. I also like the move for the bullpen, and if you're going to take a risk, doing so by dealing your biggest physical risk, at a position where you at least have some promising young players who may fill the gap - makes sense.
