  1. Good job, nice analysis. I agree with pogokat, I think you were much too harsh on a couple of the guys, and too generous with some of this year's picks, but heck, if you're right, you've put it out there way ahead of the curve. I strongly disagree with your "the answer is clearly no" statement on Khris Davis, since he's never played in a big league game, I would say, "The answer is clearly, we don't know yet." I also think you've got Burgos far too low. Your final conclusion on him could prove to be correct, but given the year he's had, and the fact that he's reached AAA at this point, I just can't put him as low as you did. I certainly hope the Brewers are right on Roache, but until he at least puts on a uniform, he's just a name on a page to me, I can't put him ahead of guys who are actually getting close to their first shot at the big club. Coulter...I love the fact that he's hitting, but until he either improves as a catcher, or changes positions, he's not top 5 material for me. I like upside too, but for me, it has to come with numbers as a player climbs the ladder, great velocity with no command, or great speed with no OBP, etc...that's the stuff that gets coaches fired.
  2. Why don't the Cubs have a website? Because it takes three straight Ws.
  3. I put a Brewers sticker on my laptop...now it can't save.
  4. I certainly didn't expect this move right now, but here it is. Good luck, Kid, welcome to the Brewers!
  5. RockCo, I can absolutely confirm two of the three players Texas offered, and they're good young pitchers...pitchers Melvin was seriously tempted to take. If Texas had stepped up on the position player, it seems as though the Brewers preferred the two arms from the Rangers to the two they got from the Angels.
  6. I agree, I was just being a wizenheimer. Ironically, it was Gennett's bat that made scouts notice him, but to this point, he's hit less with each level of promotion. I view him as a solid prospect until he proves otherwise, which I realize he's doing with the bat right now. I'm still betting on him.
  7. Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Scooter Counsell...
  8. I'm very interested in the guys at the rookie level this year, and Roache hasn't even played yet. In the higher levels, Morris has taken a huge step forward this year, and Davis just plain looks like a hitter, no matter which level he's at in the system. I think Gennett needs all of next year in AAA, which is fine, since Weeks is in Milwaukee, but it's clear, the Brewers think Gennett will play at the MLB level. I know some of you really want to see Gamel succeed, but honestly, I don't expect to see it happen. If the Brewers make a deal over the winter, Gamel may get another shot, but honestly, with Hart and Aoki manning the two spots Gamel could fill, he may have already had his last chance to start for the Brewers. That's a shame, and I certainly have nothing against Mat, but I think it's the reality, I think he'll need to catch a break to get another starting role.

  10. Jon Heyman is on the MLB Network right now, discussing Hamilton. 1. The "personal issue" Hamilton has been dealing with is a (thus far unsuccessful) attempt to get off chewing tobacco. Heyman did not say specifically whether this issue had contributed to Hamilton's slump, but it would make sense that it would. 2. Heyman says, the Rangers have not made Hamilton an official offer, and they do not plan to do so during the season. He says, while Hamilton had visions of a huge deal like Albert and Prince got, execs around the game believe Hamilton will wind up getting 4-5 years, due to his age and history of injury. As Heyman said, "There's one in every crowd", but he believes the HUGE deal is not coming for Hamilton. I agree with this, I think the top end is likely to be in the 5/125 neighborhood.
  11. I hope some team puts a claim in on Lee, I wonder what the Phillies would do.
  12. I see very little chance of Ramirez being dealt this off-season. From outside the organization, you have his contract to consider, and from inside the organization, there's no obvious replacement coming through the system - which is why he got this contract in the first place. Knowing the front office, they'll play to win next year, but if they do decide to deal a veteran for younger players, I doubt it will be Aramis. If the Brewers do decide to deal a veteran, I would say Hart is the most likely, and I'm not at all convinced the team is ready to make that move. With Gamel returning, and Morris approaching, Hart is a guy the team may be able to replace internally. If it was my call, and I was going for a bold move, I'd shop Gallardo this winter. He's good, and I want him around, but nothing brings more young talent than a young pitcher, who's already signed. IF I thought the Brewers could get the sort of return Oakland got for Gio Gonzalez, which was Tommy Milone plus three more players...I'd probably make that move.
  13. Did the A's trade Bailey, Cahill and Gonzalez for a pile of young players over the winter? Yes, they did. Are the A's currently contending for a playoff spot, and is that a surprise? At this point they would qualify for the playoffs, which is most definitely a surprise. Full of fail? Ennder, I'm not sure where you're coming from on this one.
  14. Exactly, markedman5, as it would have if Harry Dalton had traded Yount.
  15. 1. No has said "Trade Braun." 2. In 1982, the Brewers could afford any player in the game.
  16. The 2012 Astros... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=572
  17. Over the winter, the Oakland A's traded Gio Gonzalez, Trevor Cahill, and Andrew Bailey, for a pile of young players. Those players are a major part of the reason the A's are now surprising everyone by contending for a playoff spot. The Brewers have Hart, Weeks, Braun, Lucroy and Gallardo all under contract through at least next season, and if they chose to, they could bring Marcum back for another season too. If you were the Brewers' GM, which way would you go...would you trade some of those guys out for top prospects, and try to build a young team that could contend for five years, or would you spend big on a free agent or two, and try to win now with the core group you've already got?
  18. Jeffress is up to take Jonathan Broxton's roster spot in KC.
  19. Gennett has been highly regarded since the Brewers signed him, which surprised many in the first place, as he had what seemed like a rock-solid college commitment. I agree, right now Scooter's offensive stats aren't as good as many would have predicted for this season, but I have no doubt, he is still expected to be a major leaguer. Whether Scooter starts in the big leagues for 10 years, or whether he becomes a bench player, I have a feeling he'll be the guy fans love, and stat lovers want to replace.

  21. Yes, it's too soon, etc, but if he keeps this up, he's got a great shot at it. Harper got all the buzz, but he's cooled off considerably, and Fiers has been just plain amazing.

  23. Mariners get two prospects, no names yet. Edit: OF Leon Landry and P Logan Bawcom
  24. Reportedly for Travis Snider, waiting for details.
