  1. Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds is done, but the details are not. The rumors all day have had Drew Stubbs going to Cleveland, with Arizona also in the deal.
  2. When baseball tried to get a salary cap, they wound up with a cancelled World Series, and a loss in federal court. Of course the teams should share local TV money...with or without a salary cap, but they won't. Baseball has capped spending on the draft, they've capped spending on international free agents, they've added the "Competitive Balance Lottery", and they've expanded the playoffs - the one place where teams can still flex their dollars is in free agency. Last winter, the Angels and Marlins threw money into the sky...and went nowhere, here's hoping the Dodgers have the same experience.
  3. He got a two year deal, I don't know the terms.
  4. Dollarbill...not yet. If the kids show they can pitch the team through a full season this year, then next winter, I would absolutely consider dealing Yo. Look at what the A's got for Gio Gonzalez last year, and now what Tampa got for Shields - there's no reason not to want Yo here, but if you can get a big package of controllable talent for him, why not?
  5. I hurried to the line, to make sure you couldn't challenge the ruling on the field...
  6. For Wil Myers and other prospects.
  7. Unless I'm missing someone, there are eight NL teams that train in AZ... Arizona, Chicago, Cincinnati, Colorado, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, San Diego and San Franciso. The Cubs already backed away from offering three years, as did the Brewers...I doubt most of those other teams think they need him badly enough to even consider it, unless Ryan wants to pitch in Colorado.
  8. I don't doubt that Milwaukee would do 2/26, but Dempster has already rejected exactly that from KC. He wants 3/39, which I do not think the Brewers will do, nor do I think they should. In this case, "You Can't Always Get What You Want"...if Dempster wants to keep his home in Chicago, remain in the NL, and train in AZ...then the Brewers are in a good position to wait him out. If he won't come off the third year, I'm sure the Brewers will simply move on.
  9. This looks like a good stare down, and I don't see a reason for any team to go to three years. Dempster has already rejected offers from KC and Boston, if the Brewers meet his price per year, which they will, then I believe he'll come to them.
  10. Dempster wants to pitch for an NL team that trains in Arizona, and he's still holding out for a 3-year deal. Boston and KC can't match his criteria, that's all I'm saying...
  11. On his way up, scouts thought Jackson would be more than he's been, he's not overwhelming, but he's a 6-inning, 4 ERA guy, which is nothing to sneeze at. I have to wonder what the deal is, Jackson has been traded a million times, and no one wants to commit to him.
  12. Briggs, Chris told the Brewers, "One year, one million, and I get a chance to make the rotation in the spring." They turned him down. He really wanted to be here.
  13. The Phillies wanted a defensive center fielder, and they got one. I guess if you want to trade for a center fielder instead of paying big to sign one, you call the Twins.
  14. Things change all the time...Chris never wanted to leave here, but the team told him they were committed to Narveson. One guy gets hurt while the other one gets healthy...and here we are. I'm all for it, if the two sides can reach a deal. I would imagine LA is waiting to see if they can get Greinke before they deal a pitcher, and Milwaukee may be waiting to make sure they can't get a free agent before trading a prospect.
  15. It sounds like Josh is really having trouble getting anyone to move past three years. Texas is after Upton, and the Phillies are after Bourn...I have a feeling this is not what Mr Hamilton expected at this point.
  16. Sean Burnett to the Angels, Randy Choate to St Louis.
  17. Jason arrived in Nashville today, to meet with his agent and sort through the possibilities. I know the Brewers were in the mix, for sure, but with lots of teams interested, he was in a position to wait for someone to come to him. Direct quote, from someone who works very closely with Grilli..."Sheff (Gary Sheffield, Grilli's agent) likes Milwaukee. His issue was with the prior ownership."
  18. Badenhop will be ok, he's not a big difference maker, but the team isn't bringing him here to be one either. A cheaper version of Loe...a better version of Parra...call this what you want...it should be an upgrade.
  19. Of all the first-timers, I think Biggio has the clearest path to make it this year. He made it to 3,000 hits, and he's not a guy who's counting on HR totals to get votes.
  20. Sometimes I think the Brewers are the most secretive team in baseball. I can get information from inside most MLB teams, and from plenty of writers and a few agents...but not when it comes to the Brewers. Once in a while a friend will get an inside scoop on the Crew and pass it along, but honestly, Milwaukee doesn't let much get out there.
  21. It's one year, pending a physical.
  22. The Tigers signed Prince, a much younger and more durable player to this point, through age 36, at 23.77 million per season. Hamilton brings injury risk, and a history of substance abuse, which includes the use of alcohol again in his recent past. On the other hand, there is a ton of money available to team owners now, with their new national TV deal. Let's say someone signs Hamilton through the same age Fielder is signed for, at the same money...that would put Hamilton at a 5-year, 119 million dollar contract this winter. I'll go ahead and cap Hamilton's market at 5 years/125. My money is on something like 4 for 100 million. IF the Brewers decide they want to, I think they could do a deal like that.
  23. Have you seen the reports of Greinke possibly getting 150 million? They're talking about him getting the biggest contract any right-handed pitcher has ever gotten...and since Sabathia is the lefty whose gotten the most overall, gosh, our local franchise should at least qualify for a free toaster if this comes to pass.
  24. endaround, you're so right, it's very early, and things could change in a big way. I don't think Josh is being, "left out", I just don't think he's going to come anywhere near the type of deal Fielder got. I think he'll get huge money per season, but five years is likely the longest anyone is going to go on this. Right now, I think four years is actually more likely. Some teams are hoping he'll take a three-year deal at a little more money per season, but I would think someone will decide to add an extra year to get it done. If a big enough market is the team left out in the cold, he may get five years, but I'm willing to bet that's the ceiling. I think his deal will end up being much closer to the money Milwaukee offered Prince than to what Detroit wound up giving him.
