  1. I'm sure we all agree on how tough the next road trip could be, after that, my least favorite things will be: 9 games left on the west coast - don't show me the standings, etc, this is Milwaukee on the west coast. 3 more road games with the Braves, after this trip - the Braves have been very tough at home. 6 road games left with the Cardinals, with none left at Miller Park. Overall, I do like the second-half schedule better than the first half, and there will be opportunities vs the two teams ahead of the Brewers in the division, but there are certainly some speed bumps out there.
  2. I wouldn't trade Fielder for Sabathia without a contract extension for CC. I'd have to think the odds of him signing one, mid-season, with a new team, are basically zero.
  3. I don't expect to see any of these guys in AAA this year, the organization loves to keep their guys together coming through the minors. I think they'll all play in Huntsville this season, unless someone is called up to Milwaukee to cover an injury.
  4. I really would have liked to see Weeks spend 5-7 days in Nashville. Counsell has been doing ok, and perhaps a week of mashing AAA pitching would help Rickie get off to a hot start.
  5. I felt the same way about Doug's Fielder quote - that sounded like a countdown to a press conference announcing the deal.
  6. If you try to get Sabathia, you're competing with two things: 1. Offers from other teams. 2. The perceived value of the draft picks Cleveland would get if they keep him through the season. Whatever the offer is, it's either three (or more) solid prospects, or it's proven players who are ready to help now. I have a feeling the bidding will be quite high.
  7. Which is why I'd be most disappointed if they weren't trying to add another arm at this point.
  8. Sweeps, I think the approach Doug has taken with the bullpen has been the lesser of two evils. The vast majority of relievers are inconsistent from year to year, if teams were insisting on players like Weeks and Hart in deals for bullpen help last winter, I'm glad the team said no. In any given year, I think the odds are good of finding some guys who will help you for that season - it's the long-term contracts for "up and down" types that I don't want to see. Riske is the only one from the current crop who was signed beyond this season, I can live with that. The Brewers have done a lousy job of developing pitching, that's the real issue here. Free agent relievers are very expensive, and often not worth the investment - considering that most relievers are guys who failed as minor league starters - you would think the team could at least come up with one or two guys for the bullpen without having to deal for them.
  9. Olney just said on sportscenter that the crew is looking for a pitcher. I hope this is true. I can't imagine it's not true. The Brewers could use another arm for sure, if they had to replace an injured starter right now, who could they go with? They have guys who may nail down the 8th inning, but it's possible they'll need someone for the pen too. I would certainly hope they've been making phone calls.
  10. I think the only way the Mets move Reyes is if they're not thrilled with his attitude, etc, which I have no knowledge of. IF a thing like this happened, I think the Mets would want Fielder and Escobar, while the Brewers would want Reyes and a pitcher. I think getting the teams matched up would be very tough to do. I also think that IF the Brewers decide to move Prince, they will build the deal around a pitcher, and then perhaps fill in another player, rather than targeting offense first in the deal.
  11. I think it's funny - and the shoe fits. You sell what you've got, and the best thing we've had here, for 26 years now, is a team that almost got it done. The next thing you know, you'll have the Cubs running out Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, and Ryne Sandberg all the time......heck, I'll bet they'll even make Ron Santo an announcer.
  12. Current streaks in the National League Central: Cubs - Lost 3 Cardinals - Lost 3 Brewers - Won 4 Pirates - Lost 3 Astros - Lost 8 Reds - Lost 5 There's something you don't see every day! See if you can spot the team currently making a move...
  13. I remember that game, I believe it was current Rangers manager, Ron Washington, who broke that up with a single.
  14. A no-hitter through seven, with an 8-0 lead - a loss would have been impossible to live down. Thank you, Mr Torres.
  15. Gagne - ok, the man got 10 million and has been replaced by a more effective, less expensive player. I can understand how someone might look at Cameron's low batting average and high Ks and then question his signing, but I still back that one. I sat at the game last night and watched Cameron make several nice running catches, a couple of these looked like base hits off the bat, but he caught them with ease. He also hit a home run, stole a base, and then made a great play on the bases to score after Sheets was thrown out at first base on a bunt. Cameron's got warts for sure, but I can live with a contract like his, for the skills he brings. While we're at it, I also still support the Jason Kendall signing, and the David Riske signing, even though Riske has had his issues as well. The key to me is the length of the contracts you give out, most of these guys have gotten one-year deals, some with options - these are about as painless as you can make them.
  16. I hadn't really paid attention until last night, but Toronto's offense is rather weak right now. With Hill on the DL, Wells just back, and still having some issues with his wrist, Rios slumping and Frank Thomas in Oakland, this just isn't the scary lineup they'd hoped to run out there. When I saw Matt Stairs as the cleanup hitter last night, it got my attention.
  17. I think I'm going to try the 16 / A / 89 / 94 route Is this still open for tonight?
  18. The all-time record for strikeouts in a season is 199, set just last year, by Ryan Howard. Howard's effort broke the prior record of 195 Ks, set by Adam Dunn in 2004 - Dunn also racked up 194 Ks in 2006. To this point, Mr Howard has fanned 101 times this season - through 73 games. He is currently on a pace for 224 strikeouts, which would not only make him MLB's first ever bicentenntite, (ok, I made that word up), but it would also break his own record by 25 Ks! Here's to you, Ryan Howard, you're among league leaders in runs, HR, and RBI, but no one, and I mean no one can swing and miss like you can.
  19. The Brewers would have had 20 extra base runners AND about 28 extra ABs on the season. That's not irrelevant. This is absolutely a valid point, and yes, OBP is the one area of his offensive game that Braun needs to work on. If he ever becomes more selective, his potential is almost unbelievable. I did cast my 25 votes for Braun though. Why? He's now within 2 of the league HR lead, and within 7 of the league RBI lead. That's not irrelevant either.
  20. The person I spoke to was a bit panicked, his office is in a place that never floods, and the water is 7 ft away. He said they were closing more county roads, etc. I asked him about the interstate, he told me he wasn't sure what would happen, but that I may have to head to Beloit and then back up on the way home. As I said, I caught him at a bad moment, he may have been overreacting, but he sure was rattled.
  21. OK, wow. I just got a call from Watertown, it doesn't sound good. Is there a way open from Madison to Milwaukee for tonight?
  22. I don't think the Braves will have enough pitchers with arms still attached to their bodies to compete for a playoff spot. I agree with this, and the Mets may have lost Reyes tonight. The Brewers may be in the best position they've been in all season.
  23. I just saw this, it looks like Mr Rogers will never join the neighborhood.
  24. What's the latest on the interstate? I'm coming down to the Wednesday night game from the Madison area, how do things look? I drove around the Baraboo/Lake Delton area yesterday. 1. The damage is just amazing. 2. The traffic backup on Hwy 12 was solid bumper to bumper for 30 miles.
  25. He may improve, but if the Brewers are going to be in a position to compete, he is probably a guy I see as on the outside looking in. I'd bet against this, he might be the best bat in the system, and he's the only one of the top prospects who bats left-handed. I think he'll have a very long leash.
