  1. Worst case is a winning record and 2d place into the break. Best case is a game out and even in the loss column.
  2. They must have assumed Counsell was out, so Fielder's hit just advances Braun and then both are stranded when Cameron goes out.
  3. Now both runs in the 1st are unearned so I guess they do assume the out, just when we had it all figured out. If Burns is safe, they hit for the cycle in descending order in consecutive ABs.
  4. Thanks, wasn't clear from Ueck's call that he stopped. I guess you don't assume the out or the advance and the run would have scored on Fielder's hit making it earned.
  5. No RBI posted for Braun but since it's an earned run it's got to be right? I think you don't assume an out at the plate just like you don't assume a DP.
  6. With a one run lead, 2 batters can do more than plenty of damage. They can and did but if you're going to assume the worst case scenario no move is good. Coffey wasn't a good option and there was a pretty persuasive showing above that DeFilice wasn't a measurably better option either so I'm still OK with it.
  7. I didn't have too much problem with CV. He's only in there for 2 batters and I guess the thought is how much damage can he do? The problem is bringing in Coffey. He's 0-5 against Pujols but he had 40 pitches yesterday. You need a K there so leave in Stetter even if it's a rightie. Even if he still can't find the plate, walking Pujols isn't the worst thing in the world there.
  8. Gameday audio cut out last inning and hasn't come back. Anybody else having a problem? I can get any other game but neither the Cardinal or Brewer broadcast.
  9. I remember it as Tino Martinez getting a ball 3 call on an inning-ending strike 3 from Langston then hitting a GS. Brosius hit the HR off Hoffman that series, although maybe that was after a bad call too. Leyritz was on the Padres that series. But yes that was also a horrible game-changing call and I haven't let it go either. The flip side was the Braves getting balls called strikes for years when they had their run. I think part of the problem they always had in the post-season was that the umps made them throw real strikes in the series. And can we talk about Doooook?
  10. And the 1 hit with RISP was an out at the plate. Cubs are 1-9 and that's the pitcher. Let's see if they go 1-11.
  11. Thanks for getting the photos going last night; I've been waiting for weeks.
  12. STL, CHC and CIN all have the same number of losses. The magic number goes off losses so the fact that STL has more wins (having played 5 more games than the Cubs, how does that happen?) and is fewer games behind doesn't matter.
  13. I think I remember that opther 12 run ropad win. Nomo couldn't get through the 4th with a 14-4 lead. Brewers won 19-12. Pretty sure it was @ Wrigley.
  14. According to the win expectancy finder even if the sac is successful the chances of the visiting team winning drop from 23.8% (none out, runner on 1st) to 20.4% (1 out, runner on 2d). If Macha tried the sac and the Brewers lost I think just as many people would have been on his case, whether or not it worked. I didn't have a big problem with it.
  15. The infield fly is called when the umpire believes the ball can be caught with ordinary effort. If he does, it's called and the force is removed and the batter is out. Period. Everything else remains the same. The runners can choose to advance at their own risk (and be doubled off if the ball is caught). It doesn't make any difference if the ball is caught or not (except if it's not it removes the chance that an advancing runner will be doubled off and increases the chance he'll reach the next base). Since the runners are advancing at their own risk, the runner on 1st still can be out if he passes the runner on 2d. So cubfan your guess that your conclusion may be faulty was well founded. I think that also means that the infield fly call cannot be "mooted" by the fielders' action or inaction re the foul ball scenario but that's a more interesting question.
  16. Nice start for the Dodgers, 5 up 5 on 2 in.
  17. I don't think the Brewers have ever started 30-20 so let's make some history.
  18. Dizzy Dean sounds right. 1934 I think. Since McLain I'd guess Carlton in the NL with 27 and Guidry in the AL with 25.
  19. We get the better player but it's a good move for the Pads for the reasons SoCal Brew Fan says. Gwynn always had value to us beyond his abilities b/c of what he was worth to San Diego.
  20. Ueck: " And now Molina is out to talk to Wellmeyer. He's telling him he ought to pull his shirt out of his pants right now." After a few minutes on how silly all the Cardinal whining about it is. Cory didn't realize it started last year.
  21. Gameday audio is screwed up too, can't get TMJ for the 2d straight day. The Cardinal guy they have on now may be the worst announcer I've ever heard.
  22. Anybody else getting Fox WI instead of TMJ on gameday audio? They're sending the feed when they're off-air too.
  23. One of the hits was wiped out on a DP so I think he's faced 2 over the minimum and thrown something like 113 pitches.
  24. Having seen Hoffman a bunch in SD I wouldn't use him in that situation either. Especially recently he has not been good in non-save situations.
