  1. How much are the magnets? I'm not goin for the complete set on these becuase they're kinda a hassle, and never collect any value (at least my packers pins from a few years back didnt)
  2. Thank you And That for listing Larry David, that was my first choice after seeing the title. Also: Paulie Walnuts (Sopranos) Christorpher Multasante (Sopranos) Ryan O'Reiley (Oz) Master Shake (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) Bender (Futurama) Mulder and Skully (X Files) Ari Gold (Entrouage) E (Entourage) There are others, Ralph Wiggum is great too, but Simpsons has been on for so long that all their schticks are starting to be way too redundant and predictable.
  3. I just got done ranting about delivery tips, now I'll rant about working at the bike shop. My biggest peeve is when your checking someone out and they HAVE to take a call on their phone. If they've given me their money, and my boss isn't around, I just hold the bill or credit card till their off the phone, go work on a bike, or fix something on the floor or whatever. Give them their change when they are off. I have stuff to do that's more important that sitting there while they finish up some conversation. It's just rude and I won't have it. Nothing worse than ringing someone up while their jawing it up and without looking at you once throw their credit card on the counter and then sign for it, walking away without ever saying a word to the customer. The sad thing is, it's never kids, it's all people in their mid 30's to 50's in suits. THIS JUST IN: when you do this to someone at a register, you're the biggest jerk on the planet.
  4. I delivered for about 7 months this year, and with gas teetering 4 bucks a gallon, you wouldn't believe how much that helped me. I got paid in gas based on 5% of my total delivery. 100 bucks worth of deliveries was 5 bucks. Most orders were under 10 with an occasional at 20. So do the math on taking roughly 8 deliveries all over the east side, riverwest, and downtown. That money is important, and without charging it, most places couldn't do delivery because most people wouldn't do it. When gas was 2 bucks a gallon, it may not have mattered as much. I generally got anywhere between a buck and 3 (with the exception of one crazy guy that gave me a 40-50 tip a few times for running to a liquor store and getting him smokes and a 6 of guiness during the winter when all he ordered was a burger and fries (and paid for the beer/smokes in addition). Starting at 6.50 where I worked (Patty Burger), I usually tried to come out ahead of 10 an hour before my gas tip out. Obviously the busier the better, but you do remember who doesn't tip and who does. UWM dorms hardly tip. MSOE dorms don't tip. It's frustrating especially on a 20 dollar order, where you are wasting time sitting in the lobby for 10 minutes and don't get anything, while losing out other deliveries. I've actually called people out on it. I didn't care if I was expecting a tip, some people don't even realize how important tips are to food service workers. I've always tipped 15-20 for food service. I actually was dissappointed in my mom a few weeks ago when we had terrible service at Mader's and she still tipped close to 50 bucks. The waitress was fairly rude, and when my grandmother asked the difference between two sauerbraten's, the lady rolled her eyes and then replied with a total attitude. I woulda stiffed her. Yet my mom insisted. My friends cut my hair, but if I ever do go to get a haircut, I'm not tipping. Every haircut place I delievered to didn't tip, a buck for a 40 dollar order. And Al, try carrying a tray of milkshakes and 2 bags of burgers/fries through 40 inches of snow through a blizzard, woulda ya tip then? Cuz it's not that easy. Also, I tip bartenders every few drinks and throw em a buck. If they're making shots or mixers it's diiferent, but yer opeing a bottle of pabst, which is already a buck more than it should be at most places. I've never heard of tipping the garbage man, but my family always gave the mailman a gift card for Christmas, and now that I can swing it, I will too. Afterall, they're out there in freezing weather for 5 months a year, walking through unshoveled snow and ridiculous winds, they should be given some kinda gift.
  5. I've seen em at Miller Park, and on eBay (obviously). I don't know how immediate you need one, but you can try there. I might also be completely wrong about this because I'm not in graphic design or a photographer by any means, but 8x10's printed from the internet aren't going to be as good as something you get off a photoshop type program
  6. With the way the market is right now, he might have to drop to 20 and 13.5 million. That's a helluva loss.
  7. I got Gagne to SS and Cy Young my ball at the On Deck. I had Zachlaka do it for me, cuz he didn't have anything for Gagne, but whatever. Gagne also signs baseballs very nice, but just scribbles with a marker. The two Gagne sigs I have (one on my bat, and one on a ball) look pretty different
  8. Robin Yount can set up a lemonade stand next to the baked sale. A better question concerning donating money to the team is: say you win a 300 million dollar powerball jackpot. can you team up with Mark A to own the Brewers? After the taxes, you still have tons of money. What are the legalities behind that? What's powerball at now? GO BUY YOUR LOTTERY TICKETS PEOPLE!
  9. yeah, that was a 3 minute waste of time. did the mallards announce he'd be playing? also, he was choking up way too much, and has anyone since george brett been tossed for too much pine tar? silly.
  10. zach, i need a polish. are you coming to any games soon? i haven't seen ya in awhile, which is understandable since yer in Madison. but lemme know if yer gonna make it to one of the last autograph fridays so we don't ahve to worry abotu shipping. camp send it forever!
  11. I was at the Elm Grove park saturday. Got there around 7. About 5 minutes after I put my stuff down, about 30 more people showed up. There was a guy there I hardly knew that tried to jump in behind me with a bat about 5 minutes after CC started signing. I told him the people around me wouldn't be too happy, and I didn't think it was the best idea. Then continued my conversation with my friend. About 2 minutes after that a lady behind me called him out and made him at least go behind her and her son. I dunno what happened to him after that. CC was really cool about putting Cy Young inscriptions down. And surprisingly, I haven't seen a ton of balls being put up for sale on eBay. Good work Milwaukee, I thought people woulda flooded the market that afternoon. Maybe CC will check eBay and notice that as well, influencing him somewhat to stay in Milwaukee. To add to the Durham story, because he showed up 20 minutes late, he stayed about 20 minutes after all the other Brewers left. So I was able to get him too. All and all, between my luck Friday and Saturday, a great weekend for autographs.
  12. snapper, i should have an extra ball for the block party tomorrow...im going to elm grove and plan on getting there early. i think they were like 15 or 16 and came with a cube...if you'd prefer, you can meet me in elm grove..do you have anyone else going with you? i gotta get my bat signed by CC but i really want a ball too, maybe that can be part of the deal?...unfortunately my girlfriend who is incredibly great when it comes to helping me out getting autographs can't come with me tomorrow
  13. just as i predicted, i got don sutton sweetspotted with HOF 98 on it...ran up there right after i got weeks on a bobblehead, and Sutton was the nicest guy, we didn't even have to ask for the SS or inscription. he took the time to sign a couple bobbles for us too. how much did LOTF want? 60? saved me lots of cash doing that if you want him, just get there early enough before he's on the air and i think you'll be okay. like i said, he was very nice and even patient as it was a crap shoot to get bobbles signed to, when he was all for it, we couldn't find the marker we brought, but still signed it and very nice about it. his favorite current pitcher is Jake Peavy.
  14. my dad collects beer cans, so when i was younger and had to go to CANventions, he would give me extra beer cans and i'd go around and trade for coke cans. i have about 200 total, most were full but eventually drained them all (from the bottom) because i'd wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and hear a hissing sound. there is so much sugar in coke/pepsi that over time it eats its way through the aluminum. it was a real pain trying to figure out which can blew up, and also wasn't fun cleaning soda off my bedroom walls
  15. just called the ticket office...good news: it's still on for tonight....simmons, weeks, parra, mota, skaleen, and some one else... hopefully they get the thing up soon...wasn't that last date supposed to be with sheets, fielder, kendall and more? all i need is sabathia, hall, kendall, and cameron and i'll have basically everyone on a rawlings big stick
  16. as time as yer money spent and whatever, that's yer business. i wasn't aware you could bring in food, but when touring festivals first started, they weren't that way. bruce springsteen or the foo fighters or motley crue can charge whatever they want for shows. as far as rage though i'll reiterate. who's opinions are they gonna convert at some huge fest or a 50 dollar show? college kids who briefly think about protesting? high school kids that are looking forward to college so they can briefly think about protesting? they're playing for crowds of people that no one cares about whatever message they have. if they are really going to try to do something to start some kinda revolution, or swing people's attention to real world problems, they'd play day shows at block parties in the ghetto and night shows for minimal costs to cover gas and food. you think the people that can afford those shows are in any type of situation where they're concerned about anything going on anywhere? sure they complain about gas prices they're not goin out of their way to ride their bikes. they aren't volunteering at homeless shelters or picketing outside of mcdonalds. so rage's message is never really worth anything, so while there is important lyrics in there, who cares what they change? no matter what they say people are gonna put up devil horns and scream along with agreement. this is a band that's all about change, but how much can you accomplish through music. especially going this route? do they really think them and their fans are gonna even make a dent in political history through their lyrics? the best chance at getting whatever political message they had across was at the tibet freedom shows. however, i'd guess 90 percent of the people that showed up there didn't know anything about tibet and probably 85 percent left without knowing anything about tibet. but hey, at least they brought in free food and booze and caught the beastie boys! ps: obscurity does not make or break a band. see my rant about green day vs nickelback in the nickelback thread. did they play lollapalooza? did they play that song about bein a rockstar which is very clever because they already are rockstars? i bet they were a real blast too! edit: i'm not trying to single you out or come of like a total jerk senetor. i just can't understand how people go so ape over rage. which reminds me, i have a signed Rage show poster, framed that i'm trying to get rid of. signed baseballs/bobbles will work just fine.
  17. i think you can send stuff straight to the stadium. i've heard of other people doing that. that was just players though, because of the stalker issue i would think Ueck would like people to not know where he lives these days. Although it will be a little late in the season to do it, I will begin teaching in MPS this fall, I was thinking of sending the kids who got A's on their tests to the Brewers to have random, and hopefully, African American players sign their tests for em with a quick "nice job" or something. I think players would be into that for the SCORE program, but I'm curious how much my students would react or if it would motivate them much. If it works in September I'd consider trying that for the Bucks or Packers and then going back to the Brewers in spring. Feedback?
  18. so more importantly, how much was a bottle of water? 4? 5? 10? 180 for a pass? fer crying out loud, in my opinion no band or fest is worth that much, not 6 bands are worth that much. although i can only take a show of about 5 or 6 bands playing 30 minute sets to begin with, i dont care how good they are. that's just me, but I went to early Lollapaloozas and can't stand crowds at shows, especially since about 65 percent of them don't even know why they're there. for what it's worth, you prolly didn't miss much with rage, even in their hey day, you prolly wouldn't have missed much with rage. "F you I won't do what you tell me! I'm so anarchist and anti establishment that we can make someone pay 180 dollars for a wristband!!! now pass the Grey Poupon!!!! Fight the power, gimme yer money!!!!!" rage is a joke, i've made this is a hijack of sorts, but if they really wanted to get their silly message across they woulda done things ala Fugazi. I bet much cooler kids woulda paid attention. No pun.
  19. bad first date story? i asked a girl to go to a movie with me, not an "i'll pay" type date. just get yer feet wet as we didn't know each other too well and go from there. I didn't pay for her and we didn't talk after that. she told all her friends i was a cheap bastard (not that i cared, i didn't know any of them but one). We were planning on goin out for drinks after, but I just took her home instead. unless you really like a girl and have known her for awhile, don't pop for the entire night, there's lots of girls out there that just want a free night on the town. this was a really long time ago, but i also learned movies aren't the best first date option either.
  20. that's a great deal for a ball! I'd look into it as far as OML ball. for the guys that do stuff through the mail, do you do all cards, or have you tried sending balls? I've always considered this option, but with a ball being 12-15 each (depending on how ya get em)...nBo is prolly the best one to ask about this... and getting uecker through the mail is pretty sweet, considering he wouldn't sign anything other than the 5x7's miller park handed out last brewer's on deck.
  21. mini golf....it's competitive to some degree but you can both laugh about missing easy putts plus you get a lot of talking time in there too...bowling is another good one, but i think mini golf is all about fun and not as embarrassing if yer terrible...good luck dude....
  22. I don't get why you have to pay for ESPN Insider, when recently Sports Illustrated created The Vault where you can read back issues for free. I remember when ESPN writers put up stuff for free, and now the Insider has came around, it makes it fairly difficult to find any stories to be interested in, because they all get cut off after the 2nd paragraph. People pay enough to see the cable network, do they really need more money? Is Peter Gammons really that hard pressed that you have to pay to read his blog? Stupid.
  23. With all that excitement of Sonic coming to WI, what are some other fast food places that you look forward to when out of state? I'm almost positive this has been discussed before, but now I'm craving stuff. Personally In N Out is my favorite. Though I absolutely love the Jack In The Box tacos. They blow away Taco Bell or Taco John's any day. I do sense that with JITB tacos it's either you love em or hate em, no middle ground. Anyone had Chick Filet? What's that place all about? I was going to try it in Alabama, but never got a chance to make a stop, opinions?
  24. I'd like to check this out. A lot of people have said the Wire overall beats out the Sopranos. Unfortunately, my girlfriend isn't a fan of cop-type shows, so I haven't had a chance to start the Wire since I only watch tv when we are hanging out. I also never got to finish Oz which bums me out. I was on a Big Love kick and got through all those, same with Entourage. It really seems as HBO can't do much wrong. It was unfortunate that Lucky Louie got cancelled, that show was hilarious. I miss HBO on demand a lot.
