Yeah using exploitation in that context is laughable. They are working within a system that has been collectively bargained. The industry is healthy.....players and franchises are both making great money......they have labor peace....... If you want a completely free market then you will have fewer teams and fewer jobs to go with it.......nobody wants that.....not the players and not the owners.
We are the smallest market.......we can and do spend money.....we just can't compete financially with big market teams. These are facts.......you don't have to like them but it's silly to ignore financial realities. We have limitations that many other markets don't have so mistakes that we make hurt more.
Is this a joke? He allowed only 3 runs 3 times. The Brewers found him the same way they found Chacin--advanced metrics. The Brewers found that Chacin had one outstanding pitch he needed to throw far more, and they found Miley had one pitch he needed to throw more. Both had terrific years. He managed to be lucky all year........

Like this kind of accountability from Stearns David Stearns looking at the Schoop trade in hindsight: "Look, it was a bad deal, and that's on me. We made a trade for a player we thought was going to be here for a year and a half, and I was wrong."
Article today in The Athletic with a very solid argument as to why Baumgardner isn't worth a big haul. I would suggest reading it for anyone who thinks the Brewers should pursue him.
What is the down side of protecting a guy like OTC(or now that he isn't protected for another team to claim him) on the 40 man and then immediately moving him to the 60 day DL or can you not use the 60 day DL in the off season? If you can't then I can answer my own question.....the downside is roster flexibility regarding signing guys or making trades.
This 100%. It will be interesting to see how Yelich will be perceived next year when he's OPS'ing .825-.850 instead of 1.000. Still a very, very good player but not the HOF'er he was for half of 2018. I will perceive him as the guy who carried us to 96 wins and a division title in a year that we were 1 game away from playing in our 2nd Wolrd Series. What he does in the future will be what it will be.
I think Woodruff has the better profile for starting or the pen. Peralta is dominant vs righties but bad vs lefties. If you have to choose one for each.....I'd go with Woodruff as the starter. I think I'd have Peralta in the rotation at AAA working on his command and another pitch that can get lefties out.
Me thinks 30 plus million dollars a year might not be the best use of funds for a team that tops out at about 115 million in payroll. What a silly idea but I guess they need clicks.
Stearns knows........the headliners for Yelich were at positions of depth( Brinson and Harrison). We need Hiura to play soon and nobody is blocking him.......nobody knows that better then Stearns. I would be fine if we could get him with Peralta as the headliner but I doubt that would be enough......so I'm confident we won't be getting him.
