  1. Brewer beat writer Tom Haudricourt said on the radio today that Sveum defintely sent him. He confirms it in his blog of the game.
  2. I think most of us are just happy to have a guy at 3rd base who actually plays major league caliber defense at that position. As time goes on people will come to take that for granted and focus on his offensive problems should they continue. Lets hope he turns it around.
  3. Why in the hell does Yost decide to pitch a guy who hasn't pitched in a week and hasn't had a good outing all year in the 9th inning of a tie game? Riske is more then rested and so is MCClung.
  4. When Gallardo gets activated we not only add a top of the rotation starter but a late inning pinch hitter as well.........=).
  5. Interesting that Yost decided to comment on this very thing today in TH's Blog. This sure sounds like Ned thinks its important for Cappy and Bush to show something in the spring to me. Yost: Bush and Capuano must show something By Tom Haudricourt Friday, Mar 7 2008, 07:08 PM Phoenix - You get the feeling that manager Ned Yost would like pitchers Chris Capuano and Dave Bush to make his pitching staff. And the Brewers certainly don't want to send down two pitchers making more than $6 million between them. But Yost also told reporters after the Brewers' 9-8 exhibition victory over Texas today that Capuano and Bush need to start showing something in their next outings. Capuano allowed six runs in the third inning without recording an out, bumping his spring ERA to 18.00 Bush's spring ERA is 12.60 through two outings. Yost said it's too early in spring training to panic but also said the two pitchers need to get it going soon. "Their next outings are going to be important," said Yost, expressing for the first time that Capuano and Bush need to show more in exhibition games. "We need to see them start getting back to what they naturally do best. "Both are phenomenal competitors and their make-up is top-notch. But you still have to step on that mound and perform. That goes for everybody on our staff. You have to be able to make a pitch." Yost said both pitchers get "some leeway" for past good deeds, though Capuano went from 5-0 to 5-12 with 18 consecutive winless starts in '07. Yost also noted that it's still early in spring training and no time to panic. But, with five candidates in the running for the three spots in the rotation behind opening day starter Ben Sheets and Jeff Suppan, Yost said you can't go all spring without showing something. "It's too early in spring training to panic and go crazy over that stuff," said Yost. "But I expect somewhere down the road to start seeing command sharpen up. If it doesn't, then we have to sit back and evaluate things. I won't sit here all spring and watch guys do that."
  6. I hear you Ender. It just seems that Cappy for some reason is held to a lower standard then a guy like Turnbow. Cappy has an 18 ERA this spring and its no big deal. Turnbow walks 2 guys and gives up a couple of runs and people want to buy him a bus ticket out of town. I hope they can figure it out with Cappy and it is mechanics and not something with his arm. All I'm saying is he should show at least something before we pencil him in to the rotation.
  7. It would be one thing if he hadn't lost his spot at the end of last year but he did. Cappy is not in the same situation as Sheets, Yo or Suppan. He has to show in spring training that the troubles he went through last year are a thing of the past. He has to show command and the ability to get people out on a consistent basis. If he doesn't then its time to give somebody else a chance. My take on what Yost and Melvin have said is that Sheets, Yo, and Suppan are the only guys who have a spot locked up. Everyone else has to earn it. Cappy needs to earn the spot. If he is pitching effectively and its close between him and the other guys then by all means go with the veteran. If he keeps getting hammered he doesn't get the spot unless Ned has no better alternatives. Lets hope its a moot point and it he starts to show some progress.
  8. Really? So you think that Cappy can continue to go 2 innings and give up 6 runs for the rest of the spring and Yost will still put him in the rotation? Come on.
  9. Unless he gets it together their is no way Yost puts him in the rotation to start the year. I'm not giving up on him but he has to earn that spot. He pitched his way out of the rotation last year and at least so far(its still early) has shown nothing to indicate his problems are behind him.
  10. Torrealba has agreed to terms with the Mets on a 3 year deal per his agent.
  11. Bill is ok......"still and all" I wouldn't mind somebody better........ http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Hopefully Doug's idea of a professional hitter is not Kevin Mench or Johnny Estrada.......
  13. Turnbow and really the whole bullpen other then Coco. Linebrink has been ok, Shouse has been good when used against lefties but other then that not a dependable guy in the bunch. Is sad when you have 15 guys down there and nobody to put in other then your closer.
  14. another day another new lineup. Weeks sits tonight because he is 0-8 against Hudson even though he has Homered in his last 3 games. Has Ned ever heard of the term small sample? http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/default.aspx
  15. "It means he gives up 17 more runs than an average fielding 1b. -- so Fielder by himself has cost the Brewers ~2 runs on the field." Joey You meant that Fielder's defense has cost the brewers 2 wins not 2 runs correct? My question is what is the solution to this problem? We aren't going to trade Fielder, Braun or Weeks are we? Getting rid of Estrada would help but it seems like we are married to guys who are the worst offenders. I wonder if Melvin and Yost even take this stuff into consideration when putting a roster together? Is it possible to win with a defense this bad? My guess is it is but we would have to hit like the 27 Yankees or have a staff full of high strikeout low walk pitchers....not exactly easy to find. Man this is depressing.
  16. Could you explain how to interpret this data? How does -49 translate into 5-7 more losses then average? What does Fielders -17 actually mean? I'm just trying to put this into some context. Thanks
  17. I'm sure he signed more then a one year contract before he pulled up roots and moved to Milwaukee so i'm sure he will be back. He works for the Brewers not for Fox. I like him better then Sutton but not as much as MV.
  18. So we run ourselves out of an inning because Yost put on a hit and run with Jenkins up against a lefty and then Jenkins misses the sign? Wow. ps. No way did Braun run on his own there because Hart took off at the exact same time.
  19. Maybe its because its easier to roll over us then it is the Cubs? Scott Rolan was playing for them then and as I recall he killed us. ps. Cards just tied it up 3-3. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
  20. Agreed. Not hard to defend bringing him in really but very hard to defend letting him stay in after the 2nd walk. ps. Lets keep the political crap off the board.
  21. They said on TV earlier that the Cards are 39-1(about to go 40-1) when leading after 6 innings this year. The Brewers would have about an 8 game lead if their record was that good in holding leads late.
  22. I've gotten to the point where it really doesn't even get to me that much anymore. I've come to the conclusion that we just aren't a very good team. Our defense is bad. Our starting pitching is bad. Our offense is almost totally built around hitting home runs. When we do get a decent starting performace and build a lead our bullpen has blown it far too often in the last few months. The only way we win the division is by default since someone has to win it. ps. Is anyone else sick of Schroeder reminding us that "we are still in first place" after each game that we lose?
  23. Sounds like no tear and no DL. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070809cubsbrite,1,3025243.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  24. I'm not sure Braun has proven that he can play 3rd base yet but considering how he is raking at the plate it really doesn't matter because there is no way not to play him. Hopefully Ryan will take on the challenge of improving his defense or a move to left field still might happen down the road.
