  1. If Mills has any options left, and looking at his playing career so far I'm not sure if he does or not, the Brewers could free up a spot on the 40-man, purchase his contract and option him to Nashville, right? Or is there a rule against that? Not sure it's worth the hassle, but you never know.
  2. Selection #27: St. Louis Cardinals Kodi Meideros, LHP, Waiakea HS (HI) He looks classy, has a real bright opportunity to play the game the right way, and I'm pretty sure he can recite all of the unwritten rules. Also, I've never seen him without his shirt tucked in. Also, gives journalists an easy story due to the Hawaiian tie-in with Kolten Wong. Also, because he's the first guy that popped into my head.
  3. How about the Biloxi Shrimpers and Shuckers?
  4. Selection #5 - Minnesota Twins Alex Jackson - C/OF - Rancho Bernadino HS (CA) The Twins have been rumored to be in love with Kolek and Aiken, but with both of them off the board, they turn to the best bat in the draft in the form of Alex Jackson. The Twins do not have an immediate need at catcher, so they can be patient with Jackson and see if he develops as a defensively-viable MLB backstop. Or, they could put him right field straight away. The pairing with Byron Buxton would give the Twins a highly enviable prospect outfield tandem. And outside of Buxton, OF is probably the weakest area of the Twins' system. The only other possibility here is a college pitcher, and given the Twins' lack of pitching in the big leagues it could be tempting to draft Beede, Freeland or Nola. I don't think they make that leap, though.
  5. Hell, free our illegitimate prospects, don't bring in older new ones. Or older new old ones in this case, I guess.
  6. The Brewers have a roster spot open for a pitcher in AA, so naturally... Chad Pierce - no. Greg Holle - no. Austin Ross - no. Stephen Peterson - no. Tanner Poppe - no. Jed Bradley - no. Hobbs Johnson - no. Tim Dillard - yes, definitely. With all due respect to Dillard... what kind of message does this send?
  7. That's an interesting question that I didn't see an answer to. I would assume yes, but I'd also assume the Brewers would tell Wang to kick a wall or something so he could break a toe and go on the DL.
  8. Braun did not kill Segura.
  9. If the Brewers are able to maintain momentum into the second half of the year, and especially if the Orioles (and Mariners) fall off the pace, I have to think the odds are pretty decent that they'll sign Morales after the draft. They may even land him despite the records of those other teams.
  10. I've read that in at least a few cases in recent years, the Brewers have drafted someone without the individual having any knowledge of the Brewers' interest. It's slipping my mind at the moment who those guys were, but I know I've read it multiple times. So who knows - maybe the Brewers do end up with him.
  11. This is terrible timing given that Hellweg is out of options.
  12. There are the names you'd expect at the top (maybe not Gallo), but once you get past the top 10-25, the list would make most scouts' heads explode.
  13. Good for Buck - I'd be curious to know how much more money he'll have to work with in Biloxi as opposed to Huntsville.
  14. I like Grant Holmes. He sort of reminds me of Jake Odorizzi - relatively high floor for a high schooler with a good fastball, plus a good/solid breaking ball and a promising changeup.
  15. 4 games ahead of the Reds 9 games into the season. Best record in baseball. No team in baseball has fewer than 3 or more than 7 wins. That's a pretty tight spread, and a little strange as well.
  16. The Sounds have walked 10 times against 72 strikeouts in their first 8 games. Least number of walks in the PCL, second most strikeouts. Did Yuni sneak down there?
  17. If Trout stays healthy, he might get to 500 by the time he's 33. You have to keep in mind that he's still probably 3-5 years away from entering his prime. As for why there are fewer players close to 500 than you'd expect, runs have been trending downward for awhile now. Part of this is probably due to MLB cracking down on performance enhancers, part of it is probably due to the influx of quality power arms throughout the league.
  18. Undertaker losing was almost worth it just for the camera shots of the stunned fans, mouths agape. Almost.
  19. Yes you can. Ramirez has $6 mil deferred in 2014, $2 mil more deferred for Garza. The Brewers owe them a guaranteed $20.5M this year, possibly another $500k more if Garza goes over 190 IP.
  20. He tried. Offered him 6/144.5 and it was declined. I realize they made a play for Scherzer, but Illitch is worth north of a lot of billions... a bunch is not $144.5 million. If they really wanted to re-sign Max, they could have. Which makes the Cabrera deal even worse. In fact, I would argue that the lack of a Scherzer deal is a good argument for the Tigers being incompetently rich, as opposed to impetuously rich.
  21. I don't blame Kiley McDaniel for reporting it - if that's what the buzz was and if there at least some truth to it, I don't see the harm. Reporting is what it is. The job of the baseball fan who has interest in these matters is to realize what the reporting means, which in this case is that the Brewers had a leg up at some point in the past few months, and may or may not still. While I don't have any hope that the Brewers will sign the guy, they are one of the few teams that would appear to have a chance. So I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up signing him, either.
