  1. I'm bummed about Dennis not making the roster, too. Erik Miller must have had a really good spring - congrats to him. He has a lot of physical potential. We got our answer about Odorizzi and Lintz (and Wawrzasek and Billings, et al) - looks like the glut of pitching will keep them in extended spring training. I don't think that's a bad thing. Should be an exciting team to watch.
  2. I wonder who is gonna close for the Sounds? Chris Smith might make the most sense of the guys there, but it would be nice to see Dave Johnson get a shot, too. Really any of the guys who aren't in the rotation could do it.
  3. Seth McClung's gameday performance for 2009 is not very flattering.
  4. I forgot about this match while writing my previous post... all four guys in the match are pretty awesome wrestlers. Morrison is an unbelievable talent, Miz is a very underrated heel (he's bloomed as a wrestler in the past year), and Carlito and Primo are top notch luchas. They've put almost the entire feud on ECW for some reason. ECW can be the most entertaining show some weeks, but it's not the place to hype anything other than the ECW championship match, of which there is none at Wrestlemania. Speaking of ECW, TJ Wilson, er, Tyson Kidd, is going to be a huge star. He has all the energy of HBK. Jack Swagger should end up with a few title runs. I even like DJ Gabriel's size/speed combo. And Evan Bourne should have been in the Money in the Bank, even with the short turnaround from injury. Replacing Henry and Kane with Bourne and Ron Killings, er, R-Truth, would make it a monster match.
  5. This may be a dumb question, but what's the statistical correlation between college OBP and pro OBP and college BB/AB and pro BB/AB? For how many guys is there a substantial difference, and for how many guys is there similarity? I understand the problems involved with correlating college stats with pro stats, but I think it would be an interesting study, if it hasn't been done.
  6. WWE has clamped down on bars showing PPVs. The thought was, more people would buy PPVs at home if they couldn't congregate at an establishment. I don't know how well that has worked out for them given how far their buyrates have declined in recent years. Like I mentioned in another thread, this is the first Wrestlemania in a long time I won't be watching. The HHH-Orton feud has been fun to watch... Orton has a chance to be one of the best heels in history. Other than that and the Money in the Bank ladder match (except for the inclusion of Mark Henry and Kane... that's terrible booking), nothing is of interest to me. The Cena-Edge-Show angle was very late in developing. That's a shame because those three guys are capable of really great mat and mic work. Where the WWE really screwed the pooch was Jeff Hardy's booking. He's a fan favorite (I'm a pretty big mark myself) and they have him in a feud with his brother. It was another late developing storyline and Matt Hardy is terrible as a heel. Jeff should have had a title shot, or at least should have won the Money in the Bank. Jericho vs three old guys is lame. The rest of the card is nondescript. I don't think the ECW title or the US title is even being defended? And a Diva battle royale? Whoopty crap.
  7. Went on a home visit to a house we're thinking of buying and when we were about to drive away, we saw that my right rear tire was totally flat. There was a staple or something in the tire. What we can't figure out is if it's a bad omen that I ran over a staple in front of the house, or a good omen, like the house wants us to stay or something.
  8. As a father of a 10-month old girl, I can attest to what bork says - I am thrilled to get 6 hours of sleep and/or sleep until 7 am. It's really fun, though. I wouldn't trade being a father for anything in the world. We actually encourage independent play time. I think it's important that kids learn to play and explore on their own. I guess I don't mind when we leave our daughter alone for 20 minutes in her room and find that she's taken out all the dirty clothes out of her basket and squeezed out the butt cream on them. Exploring things is good.
  9. We're going to take the Empire Builder from St. Paul to Portland and the Coast Starlight from Portland to Emeryville. We're either going to take a bus from Emeryville into San Francisco or just rent a car there. We're probably going to be celebrating New Year's on a train somewhere between Portland and San Francisco so that'll be fun. I suggesting hoboing to my fiance, who quickly rejected it out of hand due to the chilly conditions. Maybe if we were getting married in the summer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif She really wants to go to Alcatraz and I really want to go to wine country (and The Stinking Rose). We want to stay away from ultra-touristy stuff and keep it as relaxed as possible. Visit some nice restaurants too, for sure. Thanks for the tips, and keep 'em coming. We want to basically stay at one hotel - where would be the best, most centralized area to stay in?
  10. Minor league transaction thread. Already announced there.
  11. I just watched the series finale of Life on Mars (the U.S. version). It was canceled after one season and in my opinion was the best new show in years. What a shame.
  12. So, my fiance and I decided that we're going to take a train from St. Paul to San Francisco for our honeymoon this winter. We have both always wanted to go there, but now that we are getting the chance, we don't know exactly what all to do. We'll be there for four or five days in the first week of January '10. Locals or people familiar with the area, what are some things we must do while we are there? And do we need to rent a car or is the public transportation system adequate? Thanks in advance.
  13. a: Coworkers who consistently show up late for work. b: Management that is either apathetic or nonplussed about some of their employees consistently showing up late for work. c: This Sunday's Wrestlemania is being billed by the WWE as the "25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania!" when it's actually the 24th anniversary. It's the 25th Wrestlemania. d: This year's Wrestlemania is going to suck, so I'm not going to watch it. This will be the first time in about 10 years I'm not going to watch it.
  14. You spelled Periard wrong. Details, details.
  15. Flight Control is awesomely fun. The original maker of Wolfenstein 3D adapted it for the iPhone/iTouch and it looks *exactly* like the original.
  16. Gwynn on the roster over Duffy makes a fat load of zero sense. And Nelson needs to make the team. On the other hand, I have no problem with Lamb making the club over McGehee. Keeping a guy because he was really great in less than 80 spring training at-bats (really great average anyway - he still hasn't walked) but has never had an 800 OPS in the minors over another guy who has had an 800 OPS in the majors as recently as 2007 doesn't strike me as a necessary move. If Counsell wasn't on the team, maybe you keep McGehee for his defense, but Counsell is here. I'd rather have both guys in the organization.
  17. Thanks for the update, but stuff about specific games goes in the In-Game Thread forum.
  18. Is this an upgrade or downgrade from the A*Tron 5000 model?
  19. I guess we can just close the thread then. Thanks!
  20. What are the Vegas odds on Riske pitching a scoreless inning?
  21. I like the Fielder/Bush one because it looks like Fielder is playing third base and that makes me laugh on the inside.

  23. With the typical "it's spring training, it don't mean much" caveat, it's nice to see Weeks with such a lofty batting average. If the kid is able to even keep it around .250-.270, he's a very good asset at second base.
