  1. Brevard has been delayed by rain... shocking. They've got two scoreless in the books so far.
  2. Somewhere in Nashville, Adam Heether is incredulous. If the Brewers call up Patterson and never do call up Heether, something stinks in Team Canada.
  3. Since the deal for Looper was signed, I was under the impression that it was very likely one of two things would happen: either he'd pitch well and not exercise his side of the option, or pitch poorly and the Brewers would not exercise their side of the option. While he's pitched somewhere in between well and poor, he's pitched well enough that he should opt to throw his hat into the shallow pool of free agent pitchers this offseason. I would be suprised if the Brewers did not exercise their option on Looper, but at this point I'd be a little surprised if Looper exercised his option to stay with the team.
  4. Rogers was pulled after 2 innings - he only allowed a hit, striking out 1. Being pulled early is somewhat alarming, given his history. Hopefully it's nothing.
  5. The Brewers totally screwed Chris Smith out of service time by waiting until now to call him up!
  6. Chuck Norris doesn't eat Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard, Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard eats Chuck Norris. [/2005]
  7. When someone is driving slowly in the left lane of a 2+ lane highway, you switch lanes to pass them on the right, and they speed up so you can't pass them at the speed you were going at. Boo.
  8. Maybe one of our Florida posters can confirm this, but I thought Rivas was generally in the low 90's and didn't have a consistent breaking ball beside the changeup. I love him as a prospect, I just don't think I've heard his name paired with "#1 or #2" starter. Maybe he's just that unappreciated.
  9. Finally, Buddy Flores makes his long-awaited debut in the second Brevard game. One scoreless inning in high-A ball... take that, Bill Hall.
  10. Braddock on the taxi squad makes some sense... the Brewers have been pitching him on set rest all season. Assuming this treatment continues and assuming he pitches on the days he's activated, he wouldn't be pitching on the other days anyway.
  11. Rivas' last 10 starts: 5 IP, 3 ER 6 IP, 0 ER 6 IP, 3 ER 6 IP, 1 ER 6.1 IP, 0 ER 5.1 IP, 0 ER 7 IP, 0 ER 7 IP, 2 ER 6 IP, 1 ER 6 IP, 1 ER That's about as steady as it gets. While he may not have top of the rotation stuff, he's turning himself into a middle of the rotation prospect pretty quick.
  12. Nieves is pitching in the restart of the suspended game. That box score, now going into the 7th inning, is already pretty epic with all the lineup changes necessitated by the roster turnover Jim noted. Rivas with - shock - another good outing so far.
  13. The irony is thick. Cameron isn't perfect for sure, but he's better than all but a few of the top CF in the game and probably has enough left in the tank to be above average again next year. The drop off in CF from Cameron to anyone else currently in the Brewers employ is drastic, and I doubt it could be made up for with whatever pitching we could get for the cost savings.
  14. Nope, they are sending him to instructionals that start in the fall.
  15. I bet Bill Hall puts up better numbers than Ruben Flores this season.
  16. Recent signee Leonard Lorenzo was on the bump, making his second pro appearance. It might not be best to discuss particulars about the outing though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Like pogo, I really don't get too excited about relievers until they hit AA - it's too easy to fool A-ball hitters with junk and get away with imprecise command when you only have to go an inning or two at a time. That's not to say all relievers don't have legit MLB tools - in Wisconsin for instance, Ritchie, Lambertus and Tyson all have abilites that project to the major league level. It's just, relievers are so tough to get a read on because they only see any batter once a game (as opposed to 2-3+ times for a starter), and their overall innings are limited. Louis, just so you know, I did put Fiers on my list, and I think I was the only one of the four to do so. But like ClosetBrewerFan noted - once you get past 30 or so, the differences between guys really blur. Relievers have to work harder than anyone else to get themselves out of that blur.
  18. Merklinger and Rivas both throw harder, start, and are younger.
  19. Why is Brandon Sizemore still in Arizona? He sure could help bolster the Helena squad.
  20. The box score has been fixed. Howell went one inning and struck out a batter.
  21. I bet they are winding Peralta down for the year... he won't go much over 100 IP this year.
  22. In addition to buying a house, I recently found my grandparents' circa 1980 Bang & Olufson turntable/receiver, still in perfect working order. I'm the only person in my family who still listens to records, so I inherited it from my sister's storage closet. The previous day, I came in to possession of my other grandparents' record storage cabinet, and the B&O turntable happens to fit perfectly on top of it. Both will fit wonderfully in our new living room.
  23. When speaking about the Richardson signing, Seid mentioned the Brewers checked into signing him to a 2010 contract, because they knew he wouldn't be assigned to any of the teams this year. The Brewers were told it matters when you sign the deal, not when you report to the organization. I take that to mean any contract signed between the day of the draft and today (and through the end of the minor league season) would be a 2009 contract regardless of whether the player plays in 2009 or not.
  24. The new Power 50 will be online tomorrow at some point, if everything goes according to plan.
  25. J.D. Closser to A's for Charles Thomas Not a bad deal. C Minor trade analysis of past years of the year.
