  1. Sunitsch was activated before his start today. Catcher Brent Diaz moved to the Helena roster but I believe that’s a paper move.
  2. Final: AZL Indians2 8, AZL Brewers 3 AZL Brewers Box Score The Indians scored the first 8 runs of the game to put the Brewers in an insurmountable hole. The Brewers did manage 11 hits, including 3 from Connor McVey and 2 from returning Edwin Sano. The only extra base hit, a double, came off the bat of Caleb Marquez. Justin Jarvis started and gave up a run in 3 innings do work, the second time he's gone that long in his pro career. AZL Brewers Game Log
  3. Final (Game Two): DSL Rays2 3, DSL Brewers/Indians 2 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Reidy Cercado and Vitor Watanabe were both on base twice and Alejandro Marte stayed hot with another hit as well, but the co-op team loses both games of the double-header. Starter Moises Ruiz was once again effective with uninspiring peripherals. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  4. Final: DSL Cubs2 3, DSL Brewers 2 DSL Brewers Box Score Two singles and four walks managed to plate 2 runs, but good pitching from Leoner Colina and Jhoan Cruz wasn't quite good enough as the Brewers fall to the Cubs for the second straight day. DSL Brewers Game Log Brewers had a big chance go by the wayside in the 8th: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 8th Farlyn Manon singles on a line drive to right fielder Carlos Morfa. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Victor Vargas replaces Farlyn Manon. With Daniel Castillo batting, wild pitch by Jesus Gomez, Victor Vargas to 2nd. Daniel Castillo walks. Jeicor Cristian hits a sacrifice bunt. Throwing error by pitcher Jesus Gomez. Victor Vargas scores. Daniel Castillo to 3rd. Jeicor Cristian to 2nd. Carlos Rodriguez pops out to catcher Juan Vasquez in foul territory. Larry Ernesto pops out to first baseman Miller Chacon in foul territory. Pitching Change: Jose Gomez replaces Jesus Gomez. Juan Frias walks. Alwinson Valdez strikes out swinging.
  5. Helena laying one on Grand Junction tonight (so far). Once again really impressed with Pablo Abreu and Bryan Connell at the plate. Brice Turang with error #8 in 8 games with Helena. I don’t think that reflects what he’s capable of as a defender but certainly some mental lapses that need to be cleaned up.
  6. Final (Game One): DSL Rays2 8, DSL Brewers/Indians 1 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score This was the continuation of the suspended game from Friday. RF Alejandro Marte stayed hot with a double and two singles, and 1B Rafael Brito added a double of his own, but that was about all the offense could muster in their 8-1 loss. Marte is now slashing .313/.386/.542 in the season's second half. Always beautiful to see these kids figure it out all of the sudden. Lefty Joandris Tolentino started and give up a run over 4 innings. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  7. Final: AZL Rangers 10, AZL Brewers 2 AZL Brewers Box Score Francis Florentino had 2 hits and 2 RBI but starter Brayan Salaya and relievers Jose Parra/Mitchell McIntyre put the offense in a big hole that they couldn't dig out of. Johan Dominguez ran his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings. Rehabbing catcher Moises Perez was listed as the 9th inning pitcher, but that might be an error in the box score. I'll check on it. AZL Brewers Game Log
  8. The DSL co-op game was suspended and will be made up on Saturday. Final: DSL Cubs2 6, DSL Brewers 1 DSL Brewers Box Score Five errors and only three hits for the Brewers in an anti-climactic followup to yesterday's no-hit proceedings. Larry Ernesto hit a double for the club's only extra base knock. Victor Vargas drew 2 of the team's 7 walks. Starter Jose Romero pitched well, allowing 2 runs in 4.2 innings of work, and struck out 7 against 1 walk. DSL Brewers Game Log
  9. LHP Clayton Andrews to Wisconsin’s 7-day DL. Andrews pitched the final 2 innings of last night’s game so not sure if it’s an actual injury or just clearing room for... RHP Christian Meister, who was returned from his rehab assignment with the AZL club, reinstated to the Sky Sox roster, and transferred to Wisconsin.
  10. Final: Grand Junction 14, Helena 9 Walks & Errors Doom Brewers In Series Opener Rockies Score Six In Third On Just One Hit By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Grand Junction, CO - Looking to start a seven game road trip on the right note, the Brewers fought back to tie the game in the top of the third inning after falling behind 2-0 early. Yet Helena's hopes of taking a lead quickly vanished in the bottom of the third, as Grand Junction scored six runs to take a commanding 9-3 lead. The Rockies scored in each of the first six innings, cruising to a 14-9 victory. Helena committed five errors in the ballgame while walking seven. The Rockies spoiled Caden Lemons' Helena debut, as the first three reached in the first inning, with two scoring on a single from Coco Montes. However, the Rockies loaded the bases, but Lemons didn't allow another run to score in the inning. Helena got a run back in the second, as singles from David Fry and Jesus Lujano, along with a walk from Bryan Connell, loaded the bases with one out. Mike Alescio then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, cutting the Rockies lead to 2-1. Grand Junction got a run back in the second on a double steal, but Helena tied it in the top of the third on an RBI single from LG Castillo and an RBI ground out from Pablo Abreu. That though is when it all came apart. Joel Pinto entered to start the third, and after getting the leadoff hitter, he walked three straight to load the bases. Will Golsan then grounded a potential double play ball to second, but an error occurred as Brice Turang dropped the throw to second. A run scored to make it 4-3 Rockies, but then Hunter Stovall skied a routine fly ball to center that Abreu dropped, scoring a second run and keeping the bases loaded. With Roberto Delgado in, a wild pitch with Montes up brought home a run, and then a sac fly scored the fourth run of the inning. That set up Grant Lavigne, who cleared the bases with a two run homer, his sixth of the year to make it 9-3 Grand Junction. Lavigne's home run marked the only hit in the inning, in which all but one run was unearned. Grand Junction scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth, and while Helena scored six runs combined in the last four innings, it was nowhere near enough. The Brewers look to hit the reset button tomorrow as they send Blake Lillis to the hill. Grand Junction counters with righty Trent Fennell. First pitch is at 6:40 PM, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 6:25 PM. *** Helena Box Score It takes a lot for me to become so disgruntled with a baseball game that I just turn it off, especially for a team I am barely ever able to watch, but I couldn't make it through the bottom of the 5th in this one. Just a sloppy, terrible, mind-numbing game for Helena. I don't think I've ever seen a pro game where a team straight up missed 4 four easy catches, but Helena managed that. Plain old bad lack of concentration errors from Mike Alescio, Brice Turang, Pablo Abreu, and Luis Avila. The photo above more or less sums up how the game went. On the pitching side, Caden Lemons and Joel Pinto just could not throw consistent strikes. Pinto in particular had zero fastball control, including a few spiked fastballs. Spiking a few curveballs is one thing, but spiking multiple fastballs within an inning is a whole other thing. Not good. Michele Vassalotti only walked one in his three innings but couldn't throw quality strikes and was either wild outside the zone or grooving pitches. I gave up on the game before Logan Gillaspie pitched but I'll go back and watch his outing tonight. He worked 2 clean innings, which was a minor miracle in this game. LG Castillo and David Fry (playing third base for the first time as a pro) each had three hits as the Brewers attempted a comeback. Fry had a double, and Je'Von Ward tripled and walked twice in 3 official at-bats. This was my first live look at a lot of these guys and I have to say that Abreu, Jesus Lujano, and Bryan Connell are all legit prospects. Connell in particular is already a big, physical dude and it looks like he could add even more muscle to his frame. He was badly fooled by breaking stuff but also had some good swings and appears to have plus bat speed. Helena Game Log I lived through this: Grand Junction Bottom of the 3rd Pitching Change: Joel Pinto replaces Brandon Presley. Daniel Montano lines out to second baseman Luis Avila. Javier Guevara walks. Reese Berberet walks. Javier Guevara to 2nd. With Cristopher Navarro batting, Javier Guevara steals (2) 3rd base. Reese Berberet steals (3) 2nd base. Cristopher Navarro walks. Will Golsan reaches on a force attempt, missed catch error by shortstop Brice Turang, assist to second baseman Luis Avila. Javier Guevara scores. Reese Berberet to 3rd. Cristopher Navarro to 2nd. Pitching Change: Roberto Delgado replaces Joel Pinto. Hunter Stovall hits a sacrifice fly. Fielding error by center fielder Pablo Abreu. Reese Berberet scores. Cristopher Navarro to 3rd. Will Golsan to 2nd. Hunter Stovall to 1st. With Coco Montes batting, wild pitch by Roberto Delgado, Cristopher Navarro scores. Will Golsan to 3rd. Hunter Stovall to 2nd. Coco Montes out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Pablo Abreu. Will Golsan scores. Hunter Stovall to 3rd. Grant Lavigne homers (6) on a fly ball to center field. Hunter Stovall scores. Niko Decolati strikes out swinging.
  11. Final: AZL Giants Black 11, AZL Brewers 2 AZL Brewers Box Score Close game until the 8th inning when the Giants unloaded on Renny Tolentino and Brady Schanuel to the tune of 9 runs. Starter Carlos Luna pitched 3 full innings for the 2nd time, which is good. Probably expect to see him in Wisconsin next year. Korry Howell, playing third base in this one, was on base thrice with two singles and a walk. Joe Gray doubled and walked and Caleb Marquez hit his first pro home run. Rehabbing catcher Moises Perez made his 2018 season debut and well, he struck out in his lone PA and allowed 2 passed balls and one stolen base in his one inning behind the plate. AZL Brewers Game Log
  12. Great to see Helena in action. Not so great the first 4 innings took 8.5 hours and Brewers pitchers threw eleventy million balls out of the zone and no one can actually catch a ball.
  13. I’ve seen Harber pitch quite a few times. He has a really good curveball but he’s struggled getting swing and miss on both that and his fastball because his command waivers and he leaves pitches all over the place. When he’s right, he’s somewhere between a back end starter and middle relief prospect.
  14. That a good point, there is a lot of outfield playing time that'll need to be divvied up next summer. For what it's worth, this is how I have it right now (with obviously not everyone being able to fit): Carolina Ryan Aguilar, Zach Clark, Rob Henry, Tristen Lutz, Demi Orimoloye, Joantgel Segovia Wisconsin Pablo Abreu, LG Castillo, Bryan Connell, Jesus Lujano, Je'Von Ward, Jay Feliciano, Nic Pierre (Insert Advanced-Rookie Affiliate City Name Here) Joe Gray, Micah Bello, Larry Ernesto, Francis Florentino, Pablo Garabitos, Carlos Rodriguez AZL Oswel Leones, Anderson Melendez, Alwinson Valdez, Arbert Cipion
  15. Final: DSL Rangers1 3, DSL Brewers/Indians 1 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Meanwhile, the other Rangers DSL team wreaked its revenge on the other Brewers DSL team. The co-oppers did manage three hits, and two of them belonged to Brewers farmhands. Roberto Molina and Bryan Dimas each hit a double, and Molina scored the lone run. Birthday boy Ricardo Velasquez was the only Brewer to pitch, tossing a scoreless 8th. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  16. The Brewers were on the wrong side of the previous DSL no-hitter back on 7/11. Shh.
  17. Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Rangers2 0 DSL Brewers Box Score It's a no-no! 19-year-old rookie righty Alexis Ramirez and 20-year-old, 3-year veteran lefty Jose Alberro combined to shut down the Rangers on Thursday morning on no hits, just 2 walks, and a hit batter. Ramirez blanked the Rangers through 7 innings before giving way to Alberro, who pitched a perfect final two innings. To get the trivia out of the way, this was the first Brewers minor league no-hitter since way back less than a year ago when Biloxi pitchers Hiram Burgos, Forrest Snow, Nick Ramirez, and Jorge Lopez no-hit Tennessee. The last 9 inning no-hitter occured in 2012, when Jimmy Nelson, Dan Merklinger, R.J. Seidel, Darren Byrd, and Brandon Kintzler blanked Chattanooga as members of the Huntsville Stars. The last DSL no-hitter for the Brewers was in 2011, which was a 7 inning complete game job by Juan Francisco (no, not that one). It was the 23rd no-hitter thrown in the minor leagues this year, though 10 of those no-hitters were sub-9 inning games. Alexis Ramirez was transferred over from the co-op team on August 2nd, and results have been outstanding in his two starts. With the main DSL club, he has pitched 12 innings, and allowed only 3 hits, 3 walks, 3 runs, and has struck out 12. His ERA for the year is a less impressive 4.08, but he's been making steady progress, which is the what the Brewers are looking for out of Ramirez. He's a little on the older side for a DSL rookie and we don't know much about the native Dominican given his below-the-radar signing but perhaps that will change a little after today's proceedings. Jose Alberro was another unsung addition to the organization, he a July 2016 international signee out of Puerto Rico. Alberro didn't pitch much in 2016, and did not pitch particularly wonderfully last year, with 40 walks in 37.1 innings pitched. He's blossomed in the past year though, slicing his BB% from 22.9% in 2017 to 7.2% in 2018, and likewise boosting his K% from an already-robust 25.1% in 2017 to 30.9% in 2018. Alberro also induces a very good number of ground balls, a 50% rate this year. As with Ramirez, we don't know much about Alberro, but we do know he seems to have put in a lot of hard work with the DSL coaching staff and it seems like he is on the brink of playing stateside ball with the Brewers. Oh, and the offense scored some runs. Oswel Leones hit his second home run in four games, added a single and a walk as well, and is now hitting .305/.399/.384. Leones was joined by Larry Ernesto and Luis Silva in the two-hit club for this game. Which is two more hits each than the Rangers had as a team. DSL Brewers Game Log The final three outs: DSL Rangers2 Top of the 9th Robert Gonzalez strikes out swinging. Anyelo George flies out to center fielder Carlos Rodriguez. Angel Aponte flies out to left fielder Oswel Leones.
  18. Recap in a bit, but the DSL Brewers threw a combined no-hitter today.

  20. This happened on 7/27, and Rubick still has not been activated for Wisconsin. Perhaps a restricted list or DL assignment. We'll try to find out. Just confirmed that Rubick is on Wisconsin's 7-day DL.
  21. I thought I heard a few 91s for Andrews - could have been the gun was off, though. And yes, that changeup is very nice. Throws it in all counts to LHB and RHB.
  22. C Nate Rodriguez placed back on Carolina's DL.
  23. In addition to Braden Webb, fellow RHP Conor Harber promoted from Carolina to Biloxi. 1B Pat McInerney placed on Carolina’s DL.
  24. RHPs Rodrigo Benoit, Christian Taugner, and Bowden Francis have been promoted from Wisconsin to Carolina.
  25. This is not accurate. Service time is service time.
