  1. Service time is not counted after the last day of the regular season (the regular season also includes any tie-breaking games). The regular season is now usually about 185 days long (186 this year), from Opening Day to the last day. Players can accrue up to 172 days of service time during the season; 172 days of service time is considered a full season.
  2. RHP Trey Supak placed on the 7-day DL in Biloxi. Might simply be managing innings for Trey, who has already eclipsed his career high with 114.2 innings of work this year.
  3. There are no scouting reports I'm aware of, I've asked around. I imagine if he strings together a few more home runs something will pop up. Something is likely to pop up after the end of the season as well.
  4. https://twitter.com/2080adam/status/1027033167306285056 So they traded one 40 OFP guy who did need to be protected (Perrin) for another 40 OFP guy who did not need to be protected (Biasi).
  5. There will need to be 3 roster spots cleared in Wisconsin to add Biasi, McClanahan, and Salaman. Salaman, if you'll remember, did appear in 4 games (1 start) with Wisconsin before the Pioneer League season kicked off.
  6. Hernandez has superlative stuff. If everything comes together, he's an All-Star caliber high leverage reliever. Of course that happening is not likely, but a good flier for the Brewers to take, especially given that he can pitch in the minors given he still has an option next year.
  7. In Biloxi, Nate Griep placed on the 7-day DL. Jon Olczak activated off of the 7-day DL.
  8. Opitz placed back on the 7-day DL on Sunday. To make way for Eric Sogard, who was activated off of the Colorado Springs' Restricted List. Recently claimed Ariel Hernandez has been optioned to Colorado Springs, where a roster move will be necessary upon his arrival.
  9. As the only other person to put Andres Melendez is the top 32, well done sir! And welcome!
  10. Final: AZL Brewers 3, AZL Angels 2 (11 innings) AZL Brewers Box Score Anderson Melendez hit a home run in the 7th and drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th to lead the Baby Brewers to victory. This is great news for Melendez, who by any metric is having a terrible first stateside season. He's hitting .127/.176/.222 after Monday's 2-hit outburst and has drawn 1 walk against 30 Ks. Melendez got a pretty decent signing bonus and is a decently regarded prospect, hence his push stateside after an unspiring debut season in the DSL last year. By the way, I don't know if he's related to DSL catcher and currently more-regarded prospect Andres Melendez or not, but they're both from Barquisimeto, Venezuela and given the similar names I'm going to say there is a chance they are family. I'll check with the Brewers on that one. Aussie catcher Alex Hall tripled and walked to raise his slash to an impressive .274/.352/.484. The defense would seem to be a work in progress, however. He's thrown out 3 of 22 base runners. Connor McVey, who we haven't seen since the second day of the season, was back as a pinch-hitter and second baseman. On the pitching side, Cam Robinson reeled off the longest start of his career, throwing 5 full innings. He allowed a run on 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 5. The 18-year-old Floridian reminds me physically of Taylor Williams, as a shorter but well-built righty who throws out of a high 3/4 slot with good glove-side movement on his fastball (currently low 90's) and a potentially plus slider. He's still developing a change-up, but he has a chance to be a good one. Keep an eye on him. Also have to point out that Johan Dominguez stuck out the side in the bottom of the 11th, which runs his AZL scoreless streak to 13.1 innings. He's 22 and should be given a shot in Helena (maybe even Wisconsin) yet this season. He's not a big "stuff" guy but clearly is overmatching rookie ball hitters. AZL Brewers Game Log
  11. I'd say not great unless they move Henry or Harrison up to Carolina. And if Feliciano remains healthy, I doubt that happens. If they believe Fry can stick at catcher, he needs reps there. Seems to be best place to do that right now is Helena, especially with Sibrian struggling so much at the plate. The Brewers are going to have some sorting out to do next spring at the catching position for sure. Henry has clearly earned a bump to Carolina, Feliciano clearly has not earned a bump to Biloxi, where McDowell needs reps anyway. Also think the KJ Harrison catching experiment may end as early as next spring.
  12. Final: AZL Brewers 8, AZL Royals 5 AZL Brewers Box Score Lots of late scoring action from both teams see the Brewers hang on for an 8-5 win. The Brewers got two-hit nights from Korry Howell, Jess Williams, and Aaron Familia. As noted a few posts prior, 13th-rounder Reese Olson made his pro debut with 2 scoreless, hitless innings. He was the last member of the draft class to debut. AZL Brewers Game Log
  13. Final: Billings 6, Helena 5 Manzanero's Blast Bests Brewers In The Ninth Helena Blows Three Different Leads As Billings Takes Series By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - In a series where nobody had a distinct advantage in a single game, it seemed only appropriate that the rubber game of the series between the Brewers and Mustangs went to the ninth inning with a one run margin. Helena held a 5-4 lead, but it disappeared with one out, as with Jay Schuyler on and one out, Pabel Manzanero blasted a ball to deep left center for his sixth homer, giving Billings the 6-5 lead. The Brewers went down in order in the ninth, falling 6-5. Helena is now three games back of Billings for first place. Helena got on the board first on a leadoff homer from David Fry in the second. The Mustangs though tied the game in the fourth, as Drew Mount reached on an error, and scored all the way from first on a Juan Martinez double. The Mustangs took the lead in the top of the fifth on a solo homer from Mariel Bautista, but Helena took the lead back with two in the bottom of the frame. Bryan Torres and Pablo Abreu singled to start the frame, and runners then were at the corners with one out after a Jose Sibrian fielders choice. A wild pitch with Luis Avila up scored Torres to tie the game, and Jesus Lujano singled home Sibrian to give Helena the 3-2 lead. Yet Billings wasn't done, as in the eighth, Jenri Montas issued a leadoff walk to Bren Spillane, and Harris then reached on an error. Chad Whitmer entered and threw a wild pitch, moving both runners up. Mount grounded out and the runners held, but another wild pitch scored Spillane to tie the game. Juan Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the go ahead run. Helena though took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth, as Avila doubled to lead off the frame, followed by walks to Lujano and Brice Turang. Chad McClanahan stood in, and a wild pitch from Ryan Campbell brought home the tying run, and a sacrifice fly from McClanahan plated the go ahead run, putting Helena up 5-4. However, Billings had the last laugh, as Jay Schuyler singled to lead off the ninth against Peter Strzelecki. Two batters later, Pabel Manzanero homered to deep left center to give Billings their third different lead of the game. Helena went down in order in the ninth against Ryan Dunne. The Brewers are off until Thursday, when they will travel to Grand Junction, CO for a four game set with the Rockies. First pitch on Thursday is at 6:40 PM. *** Additional game story and photos from 406 MTN Sports. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log

  15. The plate discipline skills are great, no doubt. Here's what concerns me about the power projections, however: Tony Gwynn, Jr. TGJ and Turang have somewhat similar left-handed builds and at their entry point into pro ball, both needed to simply get stronger. There's a difference obviously in that Gwynn was 21 when he was drafted, but the point is that Gwynn never really got stronger - the slight frame stuck with him. Gwynn had great "OBP skills" straight off in the minors but at some point, pitchers realized they didn't have to throw him balls. They could knock the bat out of his hands in the strike zone. I recall noting this on multiple occasions back in the day, and was met with some resistance. Gwynn got 1600 ABs in the bigs, so that's good, but he didn't get the results I think many were hoping for. Most of his big league contributions were made on defense. Pitchers did not have to be careful with him. The same thing worries me with Turang. Though again, like I said, Turang is 3 years younger than TGJ was when he was drafted, and has that time to work on getting stronger. And don't get me wrong, I am much, much more bullish on Turang than I was on Gwynn. It's just that drawing walks isn't a huge deal now if pitchers are just going to pound the strike zone on him further up the chain.
  16. Final: AZL Cubs2 10, AZL Brewers 7 AZL Brewers Box Score Micah Bello had a 3 hit night but the Baby Brewers could not overcome a 9-0 deficit. Youngsters Wade Beasley and Karlos Morales both struggled in their outings. Johan Dominguez ran his AZL scoreless streak to 12.1 innings. AZL Brewers Game Log
  17. Final: DSL Brewers/Indians 5, DSL Pirates1 1 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score RF Reidy Mercado (2-4, BB) and 3B Rafael Brito (2-4, 2B, BB) paced the offense while LF Alejandro Marte hit is 2nd home run. After hitting .103/.133/.103 last year and .125/.250/.200 in the first half this year, Marte is hitting .270/.356/.486 in the second half this year. Moises Ruiz pitched 7 strong innings (a career high) and allowed no earned runs. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  18. Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Tigers1 1 DSL Brewers Box Score LF Oswel Leones (2-4, 2B, RBI) and C Farlyn Manon (2-3, 3B, 3 RBI, BB) paced the offense while Leoner Colina pitched 6 innings for the 4th times in 10 career starts for a nice clean win. DSL Brewers Game Log
  19. Just to rain on the parade a little, I’m a bit hesitant to say that he’s destroying professional pitching when he has a .051 ISO and is hitting ground balls at a 56% clip. Strength was one of the scouting tweaks on him given his relatively slight frame, and neither of those stats is disproving that.
  20. Final: AZL Brewers 3, AZL Cubs2 1 AZL Brewers Box Score 18-year-old hard thrower Brayan Salaya made one of the best starts of his career, allowing no earned runs in 5 innings pitched. AZL Brewers Game Log AZL Brewers Top of the 3rd Francis Florentino singles on a ground ball to center fielder Cole Roederer. With Aaron Familia batting, Francis Florentino steals (6) 2nd base. Aaron Familia reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Kevin Zamudio. Francis Florentino scores. Aaron Familia to 2nd. Throwing error by first baseman Kevin Zamudio. Pablo Garabitos doubles (4) on a line drive to right fielder Drew Wharton. Aaron Familia scores. Eric Sogard flies out to center fielder Cole Roederer. Pablo Garabitos out at 3rd, catcher Henderson Perez to third baseman Fidel Mejia. Ernesto Martinez strikes out swinging.
  21. Final: DSL Pirates1 9, DSL Brewers/Indians 1 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Unfortunately most of the damage came off of Brewers' pitchers. Starter Joandris Tolentino, just transferred from the main DSL squad, gave up 4 runs in 3.1 innings, and was followed by Daniel Acosta (1.2 IP, 2R, 1 ER) and Ricardo Velasquez (3 IP, 1 R). The only Brewers' hit was an Alejandro Marte single. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  22. Final: DSL Brewers 11, DSL Tigers1 2 DSL Brewers Box Score Big day for the offense saw RF Alwinson Valdez and 2B Victor Vargas each get three hits and two doubles, and Vargas added a triple as well. DH Oswel Leones launched his first pro home run and LF Jhonny David got his first career hit, a double. The Brewers drew 7 walks (including 2 from Andres Melendez) and capitalized on six Tiger errors. Jose Romero and Robert Ortiz pitched the first 5.2 innings and combined to allow 2 runs on 4 hits but also 9 walks, so they were able to limit the free pass damage. Another day, this game would have been a slugfest. The lone remaining Wilber, Wilber Diaz, allowed nothing to close out the final 3.1 innings, and struck out 4. DSL Brewers Game Log
  23. This happened on 7/27, and Rubick still has not been activated for Wisconsin. Perhaps a restricted list or DL assignment. We'll try to find out.
  24. SS Jake Hager placed on the Sky Sox' 7-day DL to make room on the active roster for recently optioned Keon Broxton. C Robie Rojas transferred from Colorado Springs to Carolina to make room on the active roster for recently optioned Tyler Saladino.
