  1. Drastic overpay. Pass.
  2. As long as you're willing to define controllable #5/swing pitcher as solid, yes. Because that seems to be the market.
  3. Seems like a pretty solid return for the Rays. The Brewers don't have a great comp for Beeks in their system - Adrian Houser, maybe? I'd take Houser over Beeks, though. With the caveat that Eovaldi is a steep injury risk even over the remaining 1/3 of the season, I do think this puts in perspective how valuable rentals are.
  4. You have that backwards. Archer has club options in '20 in '21. Gray is a FA after the '19 season. Ortiz, Lutz, and Supak is a steep price for <1.5 years of Sonny Gray. I don't know that I'd trade Ortiz straight up for Gray.

  7. Final: Ogden 16, Helena 14 First Half Ends With Crazy Loss To Ogden Brewers Lose Two Leads As Teams Combine For 30 Runs & 10 Errors By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - On the night the first half came to an end, the Brewers and Raptors played one of the craziest games of the season. The Brewers had leads of 8-2 and 14-10, and couldn't hold either one, as the Raptors scored six combined in the last two frames, including four in the ninth inning, to win 16-14. For the Brewers, it was the most runs they scored in a game all year, and the first game they played in which both teams scored in double digits. Helena finishes the first half 17-21. Helena's offense got the ball rolling in the first, as Je'Von Ward drew a one out walk, and stole second with Chad McClanahan up. McClanahan struck out, but Eddie Silva delivered with a two out double on the first pitch he saw from Caleb Sampen, scoring Ward easily to make it 1-0 Brewers. Ogden tied the game at one in the third on s two out double from Daniel Robinson. Helena responded though with four in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by RBIs from LG Castillo, Silva, and Bryan Connell. The Raptors made it 5-2 Helena on an RBI double from Matt Cogen, but Helena extended the lead to 8-2 thanks to a three run homer from Silva in the fourth. In the fifth, it all fell apart for Brewers pitching, as Ogden scored eight runs against three different Brewers pitchers. Starter Wilfred Salaman exited after a solo homer from Cogen, but with the Brewers still leading 8-6. When the dust settled, Ogden had a 10-8 lead. Helena got a run back in the bottom of the inning as an error from Jeremy Arocho helped bring home Connell to make it 10-9. The Brewers retook the lead in the seventh as three Raptors errors helped bring home five runs, putting Helena in front 14-10. However, Ogden had the last laugh, scoring two unearned runs in the eighth, and four in the ninth to take a 16-14 lead. The Brewers got the tying run to the plate, but Ward hit into a double play to end the game. Ogden committed six errors, while Helena committed four. Despite the loss, Eddie Silva had the performance of the year, going 4 for 4 with 5 RBI. He is the first Brewer to record four hits in a game and the first to notch 5 RBI in a game. With the first half over, the standings reset and the Brewers start fresh on Thursday in Great Falls. First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 6:45 PM. *** Additional game story from 406 MTN Sports. *** *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  8. Ankle injury for Zack. Will be down for more than 7-day minimum.
  9. Final: Ogden 7, Helena 5 Raptors Rally To Win In Extras Helena Loses In Extra Innings For The First Time In 2018 By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - With the game tied at four after nine innings, the Helena Brewers went to extra frames with the Ogden Raptors. Previously 2-0 in extra inning ballgames, Helena allowed the Raptors to score three in the top of the tenth. The Brewers got the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the tenth, but couldn't tie the game, falling 7-5. Helena is now 1-5 on the season against Ogden. The Brewers patience paid off early as David Fry led off the second with a four pitch walk. LG Castillo then singled into center field on the first pitch he saw from Kevin Malisheski, moving Fry to third. Je'Von Ward then walked on five pitches, loading the bases with nobody out. Malisheski then plunked Eddie Silva to bring home the game's first run. He got the next two, but an infield single from Yeison Coca brought home Castillo, making it 2-0 Brewers. Ogden got on the board with one out in the third, as Chris Roller hit a solo homer, his fifth of the season. Helena got that run back in the bottom of the fourth, as Je'Von Ward started the frame with a leadoff single. With Silva up, Ward stole second, but the throw from catcher Ramon Rodriguez went into center field. Ward then took third, and the throw from center fielder James Outman went into the third base dugout, scoring Ward to extend Helena's lead to 3-1 The Raptors were far from done, as Niko Hulsizer hit a solo blast in the fourth to cut the Brewers lead to 3-2. Helena starter Justin Bullock exited after five innings in line for the win, allowing just the two solo home runs. He quickly earned a no decision though, as Drew Avans and Dillon Paulson hit back to back homers to start the sixth against Jenri Montas to take a 4-3 lead. The four homers allowed in the game were the most allowed by the Brewers in a contest all season. Helena though tied the game in the seventh, as with runners at first and second, Orlandy Navarro threw a wild ball four to Fry. Coca, the runner at second, was off and running on a full count, and when the ball squirted away, he rounded third and scored to tie the game. In his Helena debut, lefty Michael Mediavilla pitched 2.1 innings of shutout baseball, striking out five of the eight batters he faced. The Brewers had a chance to walk off in the ninth after Luis Pasen (1-0) walked two with two out. Fry hit a smash to third that Ronny Brito fielded cleanly to end the inning and send the game to extras. Minor League Baseball's extra inning rules start the tenth inning with a runner at second. The corner infielders played in for Jacob Amaya expecting a bunt, but he swung away and singled to left, moving Roller the runner to third. A ground out from Avans scored Roller and moved Amaya to second. Helena's infield then played a pull shift on Paulson, but he went the opposite way for a single, scoring Amaya to make it 6-4 Ogden. Paulson advanced to second on the throw, and it proved critical as Ronny Brito singled him home against Joey Matulovich (L,0-1), making it 7-4 Raptors. Pasen got the first two he faced in the tenth, but Silva kept the game alive with an RBI single to left. Nick Egnatuk then singled to right, putting the tying run on. With the infield back, Jesus Lujano bunted down the third base line, reaching first easily to load the bases and move the tying run into scoring position. Coca though grounded out to short, ending the game. Helena looks for the series split tomorrow as Wilfred Salaman takes the hill. Ogden counters with righty Caleb Sampen. First pitch is at 7:05 PM. *** Additional game story and photos from 406 MTN Sports. *** *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  10. Way too generous. Except it's largely subjective. I'd be willing to guess you would find different talent evaluators out there who would place any number of those players in consideration for a top 200 list. Maybe some would have most, maybe some would have only a couple. But you could probably make cogent (if not definitive) arguments on all of those guys being at least fringe top 200s. It comes down to personal opinion in large measure. For instance, Erceg's recent OFP/FV ratings range anywhere between 45 and 60. At 60, he's certainly a top 200 prospect, probably a top 100. At 45, he's neither. Same thing with Lutz - Kiley McDaniel loooooves Lutz and had him in a top 100 list. John Sickles didn't have Lutz in his top 175.
  11. OF Jay Feliciano activated from Wisconsin's 7-day DL, and C Brent Diaz placed on Wisconsin's 7-day DL, retroactive to Saturday.

  13. Unfortunate timing as well, given how late we are into the season, probably looking at a 2020 return.
  14. Yes, the reason is Stokes' arm. Doesn't play in RF. Like I said though, in terms of defense outside of arm strength, they're pretty similar. Grisham has really backed up in terms of routes he takes on flyballs. There have been some pretty embarrassing defensive displays by Trent tracking balls in the air this year. Which sucks, because I still believe in him wholeheartedly as a big league prospect.
  15. And therein lies the point. Stearns has thus far shown little desire to overpay for upgrades, especially short-term marginal ones like Cabrera. I suppose they could include Supak instead of Lopez, they're about the same value, but Lopez would be able to help a depleted Mets pitching staff right away. I would be extremely surprised if they offered Houser for Cabrera, even straight up. I'd rather have someone who can actually play SS if the Brewers are giving up any excess value whatsoever.
  16. Stokes has improved his defense and throwing from '17 to '18, from what I've seen. His arm isn't good (not Khris Davis bad, but not good), but in terms out of outfield play outside of arm strength, I'd put him defensively on about the same level as Grisham at the moment. Although part of that is that Grisham has gone backward defensively.
  17. Final: AZL Dodgers1 10, AZL Brewers 4 AZL Brewers Box Score The pitching staff allowed 19 baserunners, including 11 via walk, and put the team in a 10-0 hole that they couldn't big out of. AZL Brewers Game Log
  18. Final: Ogden 4, Helena 1 Bats Fall Silent As Ogden Evens Series Raptors Take Two Run Lead In First & Never Trail By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - A day after shutting out Ogden, the Brewers offense had troubles of their own, never finding rhythm against Raptors starter Jose Chacin. Helena scored just one run, and Ogden took a two run lead early and never trailed, winning 4-1 to even the series. Ogden's bats woke up from last night's lull right away as a one out single from Drew Avans scored on a double from Dillon Paulson. Ronny Brito then added to the tally with a two out single of his own, making it 2-0 Ogden. Helena starter Max Lazar (L, 1-2) settled down from there, holding Ogden scoreless in the second, but a series of weird plays helped extend the Raptors lead to 3-0 in the third. Brito reached on a one out error, and before Niko Hulsizer stepped in the batters box, Lazar asked the umpire for a new baseball. He threw the ball he currently had into the Brewers dugout, but didn't realize that the ball was still live. Brito was awarded second base, and scored on a two out double from Tre Todd. Chacin allowed just two hits through the first four innings, but a single from Luis Avila advanced to third in the fifth on a throwing error from Brito. With runners at second and third with one out, Jean Carmona drove home Helena's first run of the game with a ground out to short. Chad McClanahan though struck out to end the inning. From there the Brewers offense couldn't capitalize on opportunities, leaving the tying runs at first in the seventh and eighth innings. Ogden added an insurance run in the ninth, and Helena couldn't muster anything in the bottom of the frame. The Brewers seek to get back on track tomorrow as they host Ogden for the penultimate game of the first half. Justin Bullock takes the ball for Helena, opposed by Kevin Malisheski. *** Additional game story and photos from 406 MTN Sports. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  19. I like the idea of trading for Bundy, but that's a ton for a "could be" player with a significant injury history.
  20. Cabrera has little to no excess value - he's worth maybe one 40-45 OFP prospect plus a flyer. I'd do Jorge Lopez and Tristan Archer. Moore is going to be a FA in a few months unless the Brewers add him to the 40-man. More than likely, the Mets could just wait if they really liked him.
  21. RHP Dylan File activated from Wisconsin's 7-day DL; RHP Matt Hardy placed on Wisconsin's Temporary Inactive List.
  22. Ray is more valuable than Dozier. Pass. If I'm the Brewers, I am not trading these players for Dozier: Hiura, Burnes, Woodruff, Phillips, Ortiz, Lutz, Peralta, Ray, Erceg, Dubon, Nottingham, Woodruff, Houser, Medeiros, Brown. I may be forgetting a few others as well.
  23. These ones. There are 32 (!) catchers who have at least 150 PAs this year, who have a better OBP than Perez. 23 of them have managed an OBP of .300 or higher. 14 of them .330 or higher.
  24. Final: AZL Dodgers 1, AZL Brewers 0 AZL Brewers Box Score Like their DSL counterparts, the AZL club gets shutout on 3 hits. Jess Williams managed the only XBH for the Brewers, a 4th inning triple. He was subsequently erased from the basepaths at home whilst trying to score after tagging up on a flyball. Brice Turang reached third base as well in the first inning after a single, steal of 2nd, and advance on a groundout, but he would be stranded there to end the inning. Caden Lemons and Michele Vassalotti held the Dodgers hitless into the 7th inning. Lemons worked a career-high 3 innings, while Vassalotti's 4 scoreless lowered his season ERA to 0.43 and career ERA to 1.21. Recently signed indy baller Logan Gillaspie made his pro debut in the 9th and allowed a walk while also striking out one. AZL Brewers Game Log The lone run of the game scored on a Luis Avalo passed ball. So it goes: AZL Dodgers Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Renny Tolentino replaces Michele Vassalotti. Albert Suarez flies out to left fielder Arbert Cipion. Jon Littell triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Pablo Garabitos. Rolando Lebron strikes out swinging. With Kenneth Betancourt batting, passed ball by Luis Avalo, Jon Littell scores. Kenneth Betancourt strikes out swinging.
