  1. Final Game One: DSL Rangers2 18, DSL Brewers 5 DSL Brewers Game One Box Score After the Brewers' game on June 30th, a 2-1 win, their team ERA was 2.93. Since the calendar has flipped to July, they've given up 7, 13, 11, and now 18 runs. The four-game pitching meltdown has driven the ERA all the way up to 4.15, an impressive "feat" a month into the season. Carlos Rodriguez had a hit. Andres Melendez hit his first career home run. Jesus Chirinos had a 2-RBI double on the top of the first inning. Just take a pass on the rest of it. DSL Brewers Game One Log I... uh... erm... 2. And exactly as many World Series titles as the Indians since the trade. How did Matt LaPorta work out? The insane thing is thinking that cashing in prospect chips for major league production is always a good or bad idea. Baseball is a pragmatic game. Sometimes it does make sense to allocate resources to the big league club. The Brewers got exactly what they wanted out of the Sabathia deal, a shot at the postseason. They got there and it didn't work out. If they had won a title with Sabathia, I doubt this post gets made. And if the Indians would have taken Taylor Green instead of Brantley, I doubt this post gets made. The other way to look at it is, if the Brewers had kept all the guys they traded for Sabathia, does that move the needle a whole lot on the Brewers winning a World Series in the interim? I don't see how it does.
  3. Cabrera becomes the youngest player in the organization, born 6/5/2002. Though he'll lose this title in the next few weeks when Eduardo Garcia signs.
  4. Villalobos was born on 10/17/00 and was placed on the DSL's Restricted List. He is eligible to be activated this year.
  5. As mentioned in the International Signings thread in the MLB Draft forum, RHP Abner Uribe was signed to a 2018 contract and placed on the DSL's Restricted List, so he wasn't a traditional July 2nd signing. Uribe could play yet this year. He was born on 6/20/00. The Brewers have also signed RHP Jose Espiritu and assigned him to the DSL's Restricted List. Espiritu is eligible to play this year as well and was born on 11/20/98.
  6. Abner Uribe was actually signed to a 2018 contract and placed on the DSL's Restricted List. He's eligible to be activated this season yet.
  7. The DSL team plays a doubleheader today, with the second game being a makeup of a June 20th rainout.

  10. Final: Billings 3, Helena 1 Alecis Deals As Billings Snaps Helena's Win Streak Brewers Have Scored Just Three Runs In Three Games at Dehler Park By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Billings, MT - After getting dominated by Luis Alecis (W, 1-1) in Billings on Friday, the Brewers proceeded to score at least five runs in their next five games, all coming against Great Falls. Facing Alecis again in Billings, the Brewers bats went silent, managing just two hits against him in 5.2 innings, as Billings edged Helena 3-1, snapping their winning streak at three. Alecis and Helena starter Wilfred Salaman (L, 1-1) threw up zeroes through the first two innings, but a costly defensive mistake plated Billings their first run in the third. Carlos Rivero drew a leadoff walk, and with one out, got to third on a fielding error from Jean Carmona on a Reshard Munroe ground ball. Mariel Bautista then hit a sac fly, easily scoring Rivero to put Billings up 1-0. Salaman dealt scoreless fifth and sixth innings, but Helena's offense couldn't break through against Alecis. The Brewers got two on in the fourth and failed to score, but their best chance to tie the game came in the fifth, as a Nick Egnatuk leadoff walk got to second on an Eddie Silva ground out. Alecis struck out Pablo Abreu, then walked Jesus Lujano, but Yeison Coca grounded out to Alecis, ending the threat. Billings added two key insurance runs in the sixth against Brandon Presley, as a leadoff bunt single from Bautista came home two batters later, as Drew Mount launched his second home run of the year, making it a 3-0 game. Alecis departed with a runner on in the sixth, and Andy Cox and Jeremy Kivel held the Brewers scoreless over the next 2.1 innings. Silva singled home the lone run of the game for Helena in the ninth against Dauri Moreta, but they never got the tying run on base, falling 3-1. The Brewers have scored just three runs in three games at Dehler Park in 2018. The Brewers look to even the series tomorrow as they send lefty Blake Lillis to the hill. Ricardo Smith takes the ball for Billings, making his first start against the Brewers. First pitch is at 7:05, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of helenabrewers.net at 6:50 PM. *** Photos/additional game story from 406 MT Sports. *** Helena Box Score 20-year-old LHP Wilfred Salaman, who pitched briefly for Wisconsin earlier this year, is having a heckuva season for Helena. 23 IP, 13 H, 2 ER, 9 BB, 19 K. He's entertaining to watch pitch as well, with top shirt buttons undone and a powerful high 3/4 delivery. Just 4 singles from the offense on the day. David Fry on base 3 times including 2 walks, but also committed his 6th passed ball as he continues to transition back into catching. Helena Game Log
  11. So apparently I was the origin of the #FreeNateOrf hashtag. Thanks to JR for a)figuring this out and b)talking to me about it, and about Nate.
  12. Final: AZL Brewers 7, AZL Cubs2 2 AZL Brewers Box Score Micah Bello, playing LF again with Joe Gray getting reps in CF, on base 4 times including a career-high 3 walks. He's slashing .357/.449/.524 and would seem to be a logical bump up to Helena if and when Carlos Rodriguez is moved up to Maryvale. Bello is also 6 for 7 in stolen base attempts. SS Orveo Saint was the only Brewer with two hits. It was a much needed outburst as saint was 1-22 on the season coming into this one. Pro debut for Mike Alescio, recent UDFA signee out of Seton Hall. Alescio was the DH and went 0-4 with a run scored. Michele Vassalotti started and went 5 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits. Michael Mediavilla pitched 3 scoreless innings to finish out the game, picking up his first career save. Mediavilla hasn't given up a run yet as a pro, spanning 5.2 IP. AZL Brewers Game Log
  13. Final: Helena 6, Great Falls 5 Egnatuk Blasts Brewers To Walk Off Win Helena Has Walked Off Great Falls Three Times In 2018 By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers Helena, MT - Mired in a slump, Nick Egnatuk was due for a big hit. In a tie game with two outs in the ninth, Egnatuk delivered a monster blow, taking a first pitch from Vince Arobio and launching it a mile over the left field wall, giving the Brewers their second walk off win, a 6-5 final, in as many nights. The Brewers now have four walk off wins in 2018, with three of them coming against the Voyagers. Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings, but for the second straight night, Great Falls struck first, as Corey Zangari hit a solo homer in the fourth. Helena struck back with a blast of their own, as Jean Carmona hit a two run homer to deep right center, giving Helena the 2-1 lead. However, the lead was short lived, as the first three reached for Great Falls in the fifth against starter Justin Bullock. He got Zangari to strike out, but then Romy Gonzalez hit a grounder to third that could have been an inning ending double play, but after Egnatuk tagged the third base bag, his throw to first skipped away, scoring two runs to give the Voyagers the 3-2 lead. Great Falls added two in the sixth, but Helena got both runs back in the bottom of the inning with a triple from Yeison Coca that scored on a sacrifice fly from Carmona. Chad McClanahan then launched a home run to right, his third of the year, making it a 5-4 game in favour of Great Falls. Brady Schanuel pitched a scoreless seventh, but back to back doubles put runners at second and third with nobody out in the eighth, prompting a call to the bullpen for Chad Whitmer (W,2-0). With the infield in, Whitmer got a ground out from Maiker Feliz, a strikeout of Jay Estes, and a flyout to right from Ian Dawkins to end the threat and keep it a one run game. Helena took advantage of Great Falls miscues to tie the game in the eighth, as a leadoff walk from Pablo Abreu advanced to second on a bunt from Jesus Lujano, but a fielding error from Feliz at third allowed Lujano to reach. Coca then bunted both runners into scoring position, and a Carmona ground out to second brought home Abreu, tying the game at five. However, the Brewers couldn't score the go ahead run, keeping the game tied going into the ninth. Whitmer got the first two he faced, but a single from Zangari reached second on a wild pitch to Gonzalez, but Whitmer punched out Gonzalez, ending the threat. Vince Arobio come on for the ninth for Great Falls and got the first two he faced, but Egnatuk smashed the first pitch he saw from Arobio into the night sky for a walk off homer, the team's second of the year. The Brewers hit the road for three games tomorrow in Billings, beginning with a 4:05 PM first pitch against the Mustangs. Wilfred Salaman makes the start for Helena, opposed by Luis Alecis for Billings. The Helena Brewers pregame show hits helenabrewers.net at 3:45 PM MT. *** *** Photos/additional game story with quotes from manager Nestor Corredor, from 406 MT Sports. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log

  16. That name gets mushed together a lot, and that was the spelling used that I saw. The Cardinals have a pitching prospect named Daniel Poncedeleon, for instance.
  17. Turang has not not been signed. We don't know if he's signing or not. I don't think there's overwhelming evidence that he won't sign.
  18. Biloxi will be picking up where they left off with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th from Sunday's suspended game. After completing that 9 inning game, they'll play the regularly scheduled game which is shortened to 7 innings.
