  1. The New Power 50 is up. The first projection of 2007 rosters will be up within a few hours. The BIG news: This is my last Power 50. Going forward, the duties will be handed off to either a person or persons... the setup is still TBD, but it will be in very good hands. Obviously more announcements about this are forthcoming. I'm stepping down because I just don't have the time to do it anymore, but it's been fun over the years. I hope I've inspired at least a person or two to become more interested in the Brewers and minor league baseball. I'll still be hanging around the site, but not as much. Best of luck to all of the guys I've been following over the past years, and go Brewers!
  2. I was fortunately not subjected to the Packers game. I live in Minnesota, so I got to watch a pretty entertaining Minnesota/Chicago game.
  3. A couple or three hours. Watching football slows the process.
  4. I imagine DM had a hard enough time getting two pitchers out of the deal, let alone another prospect. I agree with your love for Carter, but that may have meant us giving up another substantial player.
  5. I mean, even if you go with Mench and Gross in left and Hall in CF, I'd rather have Jennings and that, than Jenkins and Mench in left.
  6. If I were DM, I would think long and hard about offering Jenkins (who would kill in Coors) and Clark for Jennings and a prospect. I like Jennings a bit, and that's not too much to give up for him assuming we can get a LF to replace Jenkins (and assuming Hall is in CF).
  7. I think for the most part people pronounce his first name the english way instead of the spanish way. Yes, I've always heard it as Ain-jel (like, angel) Saul-oh-may. I hope his Angel Echevarria-esque name is the least of our problems when he comes up sometime in '08.
  8. Perhaps it would be a good idea to work on a Brewefan wiki article within a thread here on Brewerfan before you try to put it back on Wikipedia. If it is more fleshed out before it's put on Wikipedia, it may be more likely to stick around. Links to and from other Wikipedia entries would be helpful, too.
  9. I just want to mention the CV is off of the P50 due to innings pitched. So, push everyone below him up a notch.
  10. Let's see some more top 20 lists. Or even top 10 lists. I know you guys out there all have opinions. And yes, Will Inman rocks.
  11. In order not to be laughed off the phone, I'd start with Hall, Gallardo and Jackson, and then see what else they wanted.
  12. I believe that will make the team out of ST, though maybe not as much because he deserves as because he's a special talent that the Brewers can't give up on. If Dennis Sarfate wants to, he can be a closer in the bigs. Can he find it within himself to do it? Only time will tell.
  13. When the Power 50 comes out this Sunday (I promise), there will be some BIG news regarding the P50. Stay tuned to Brewerfan on Sunday afternoon for an announcement. Furthermore, my first projection of 2007 major/minor league rosters will come out on Sunday. I just hope Counsell or Graffy and Cirillo get signed before then so I can pencil them in the "TBD" slots. I apologize for the delay in posting the new Power 50. Free time is not something I have had recently, but that issue will be resolved shortly. Enjoy this Sunday. Until then, feel free to post your top 20 Brewer prospects. I already have my list done, but I want to see what ya'll think. Have a good one. Edit: Endemic spelling errors.
  14. A Stewart/Jenkins platoon in LF wouldn't be that bad, but would Stewart cost less than Mench, and would Stewart sign here just to platoon? If he signed, I guess that'd be encouraging about Hall's chances to play CF.
  15. One final thought on Thatcher here... He has a very good fastball and a decent slurve-y thing. He can't get to RH batters with his stuff, but if he could learn a cut-fastball (to essentially act like a change-up), or a change-up, he could be a dominant reliever. P.S. It's also nice watching Ford and Cain play in CF-RF.
  16. I've been crushing on Zaun being the Brewers' catcher for quite some time. I'd love for Zauner to get 60% of the playing time w/Miller. I liked Rivera's number in AAA, but seeing him with the Brewers, he's not a good hitter. He's like Branyan without the ability to walk or drive the ball as far. He's not a horrid backup, but I'd be much comfortable with Zaun/Miller.
  17. Yah, I don't think Thatcher has the stuff right now to get RHB out consistently, but I'd be very tempted to put him in AAA and see if he can work on that. He throws hard enough to be a closer in the future. He looks like a closer. But for right now, I'd just project him as a LOOGY, with a high plus side.
  18. I'm actually pretty excited to see Joe Thatcher come in here. Edit: Thatcher has a pretty good riding blow-by fastball on lefties. I don't think it'll work very well against righties in the bigs without an adjustment, but I'm sold on him as a LOOGY. Edit 2: Darren Ford really looks like a good top-of-the-order hitter to me. I'm really impressed.
  19. Cain is a lot of legs. Got fooled often on that plate appearance. You know, I think he'd be a pretty good pitcher, too. Strong lower half.
  20. Even though he struck out, I was impressed with Darren Ford at the plate in the top of the 3rd inning. First pitch, really good inside-out swing foul opposite field. Second pitch, showed good bunting prowess. Third pitch, struck out on a breaking ball he shouldn't have swung at, but it looks like he has pretty quick hands in addition to quick feet.
  21. Doug Davis for CF Ryan Church (or similar - I picked a player less mentioned) I know this wasn't your point, but if the best we can get for DD is Ryan Church, I'd rather have DD and sign Roberts/Lofton. I'm not saying Davis is worth Crawford or Baldelli, or I'd like to think he's worth more than a 28 year-old CF w/500+ career AB.
  22. Everything Is Illuminated OST While the movie was mostly hit than miss, the soundtrack is mostly hit over miss. Paul Cantelon, who orchestrates about half of the songs here, brings warmth and heart to the movie, and is in generally rare form. There are also a number of suberb eastern Euro tracks, including two very good tracks from Gogol Bordello. All in all, it's a good listen if you haven't seen the movie, and a great listen if you have seen it (which you should have). There's a few misses here, and the tracking gets a little redundent, but a good listen. 3.5/5. Acetone - Acetone/York Blvd. Two albums here, each from the Richie Lee-led Acetone. Lee committed suicide back in 2001, so we'll never know the ultimate zenith of the band, but we'll know they were pretty good at least. Their self titled album has one of my very favorite songs, "Every Kiss" while it contains a number of decent slo-core jam sessions, highlighted by "Shobud". York Blvd. may be the more musically accomplished of the albums, and its first three songs are very catchy. However, the album quickly reverts into blase musical noodling, and the end parts aren't that interesting. Acetone - 3.5/5, York Blvd. 2.5/5.
  23. Ten times out of ten, I'll take $30 mil over two years over $33 mil over three years. Almost on interest and investment returns alone, the $30 mil is worth more.
  24. Steve Moss singled in four AB's (two K's). Just looked at the roster, and saw that Moss was the youngest position player on the team, yet his OBP is holding steady. I read awhile back that he's fighting for his AA life in the AFL? That ridiculous. Steve Moss will be just fine long term.
  25. This cannot be taken lightly. How about two Yos in the top 10 of the Power 50? Also not to be taken lightly.
