  1. Unless Halladay is just blowing smoke he wants out. There have been lots of rumours around. He wants to win and realizes he's in his prime years. I seriously doubt an extension is signed. JP is on his last bit of leash as well. The Jays have had financial issues for years and this is no secret. I think this team will be blown up and they will start from scratch. It will start in the next couple of weeks and continue through the winter. JP"s only chance to save his job is to find someone to take on a lot of the bad contracts and bring in some exciting youth.
  2. You missed the whole point. This was one of the turning points for this organization along with signing Suppan which showed the Brewers weren't just another small market team willing to fade into oblivion like we also have for the past 20 or so years. We showed we were a team willing to go for it. Without the Suppan signing and this deal I doubt Hoffman would have signed here. I also doubt Braun signs the deal he did.
  3. I think Halladay will be moved. JP loses his job this winter if he doesn't so he'll move him. He might lose it anyways. How he's kept his job this long with all the bad contracts he's given out is beyond most of us that live in Canada. While I'm not making fun of or putting down any of the offers suggested on this site or elsewhere I'm not sure why the Jays would want Hart, Suppan or even Hardy. What they need budget wise is cheap young guys like Gamel, Escobar and Salome who are basically ready for the show. Throw in a Brewer Canadian prospect and you would likely have a deal. And honestly I'm not sure there is a better pitcher in baseball than Roy. He'd likely be worth it even at the price of 2 of our top 3 prospects and some others. The Linebrink trade was ridiculed on this site immediately after it was made because whe had given up away too much for a middle releiver. At this point in time it looks pretty good from the Brewers side of things. What we would be giving up isn't proven yet and there is a possibility that one of our can't miss prospects does just that.
  4. Its amazing Cutter has kept it together as well as he has with a father like that. Treat family like dirt, ok, I can buy it in some circumstances as we just get one side of the story, but to rip off your Mom! That is the ultimate disgrace. Who's the idiot banker that gave him the money without any collateral.
  5. Gamel, Escobar, Lawrie and probably a couple of the better pitchers at A ball or lower and you might get it done. Anything less than that and the answer would be no. If we took on Vernon Wells and shipped back Bill Hall likely you could drop either Gamel or Escobar and one of the low level pitchers out of the deal. They won't Roy cheap and I don't see Toronto paying any of Wells future salary. The best you could hope is they take back Hall.
  6. I'm pretty sure Lou Pinella was on the list too. Haven't you noticed how he's mellowed out now. He hasn't bumped an umpire lately and he even took Milton Bradley down the runway the other day so we couldn't see them argue on tv. In the old days he would have thrown the Gatorade cooler at him right on then bench. Until an official list comes out it's all speculation and nothing else. Although I'm sure at least some of the players on the list did test positive. The one player that stuck out to me was Bengie Molina. He doesn't need steroids but he could really use some "speed"
  7. I'm very well aware of the Josh Hamilton story but the point being missed here is it doesn't matter your background or how you came through things the chances of long term success aren't good. I hope he can stay on the straight and narrow the rest of his life. Few that have been through what he has succeed long term. I'm not going to say anything more on this subject because it's obvious a lot of people just don't get it. He's 21, he's just a kid, forgive him I here. Whether it's fair or not he's a pro athlete and they are held to higher standards. Jeffress obviously isn't up to it and for anyone to suggest he is, is absurd.
  8. Never said which lottery did I. My point being is he's a complete right off. I think it's fair to say Mr. Jeffress = worst pick in the history of the Brewers, taking into consideration he was a first rounder, the expectations, the fact we are no longer in the Sal Bando era (did we really expect much back then?) and the fact it wasn't injuries that did the guy in, rather character.
  9. People keep referring to Josh Hamilton on this site. For every Josh Hamilton there are thousands of others who end up dead, in jail or homeless. So really what is your point. I have a better chance of winning the lottery than Jeffress does at truly turning his life around. For his sake I hope Josh Hamilton has turned his life around. Time will tell. You don't have to be with it to be a major leaguer or pro athlete either. Does anyone really think Milton Bradley or Elijah Dukes for example have it all together. I doubt either will last very long in he real world once their playing days are over. In risking getting kicked off this board I'll state I'm no fan of Brett Favre either whom is also mentioned on this thread often enough. Never have been. Tremendous talent but just look at him now. Can't cope with the real world so he turns a great hall of fame career into a soap opera. It's becoming really pitiful to watch.
  10. That's like suggesting you drive better after a couple of rounds of tequila shooters. Come on. And addictions to pain killers are a serious problem world wide. In many cases it's as bad as being addicted to recreational drugs. Has the same affect on family and your life. People lose jobs, homes, families and their lives.
  11. You've got a point here. I still can't believe his teammates didn't force management to get rid of him. That's about as low as it gets.
  12. My point is he likely never will. And if he ever does it will be several years from now with another organization anyways. What kind of example does this set for the rest of our legitmate prospects? If he was going to figure it out he would have the 1st time. Unless I'm wrong this is technically his 3rd offense already. Didn't the Brewers catch him on there own as well? This is the one case where I couldn't care less if he caught on with another team and made it. He's not much of an example for kid's to look up to. What am I supposed to do if he's up with the Brewers someday. Lean over to my kids and say quit cheering for our team for a minute while this idiot pitches? Not the type of conversation I want to be having at a ballpark.
  13. And what's your point? He'd then be someone else's problem.
  14. I'm pretty sure I said after the first suspension we should have released him. Guess I was right. Once a cheat always a cheat. I work in a field were I see a lot of injured people and then have to deal with their addictions as part of their rehab and let me tell you very few and I mean very few ever kick them for long. I would hope the team just releases him now but I suspect the Brewers will have to waist a bunch more money on his rehab. I guarantee you this guy gets a lifetime ban. He's got his million and I doubt he cares about anything else. I hope the Brewers fire the guy that did the character test on this guy before drafting him.
  15. If we agreed to take Francouer we could have him for nothing. If all they wanted was Jeffress and a mid level prospect with Hart for Jurjens the deal would already be done. I like Medlen but I'd want a decent minor leaguer tossed in to do the deal from the Brewers prospective. We seem to always sell our players short on this board.
  16. Hard to believe anyone would even suggest sell when you have one of the top 5 teams in the standings in the NL. Sure we are having some problems with the pitching now but what team doesn't have an injury somewhere? I'm all for buying a #5 type starter for the short term to get us through until Bush is back. If we suddenly lose 15 of the next 20 maybe we sell but in all honesty there isn't much to sell. The core of this team is going to be kept together so maybe a Cameron or Kendall goes somewhere if we are out of it towards the deadline. That isn't going to get you much of a return so if you are even close (within 10) at the deadline we need to try to buy. I'm glad to have owner who genuinely wants to win and doesn't mind trying.
  17. I'm not suggesting all 3 will make it. Not even suggesting 1 of them will. All I'm saying is keep an open mind. Pitching is all about getting outs. How you get them isn't realy relevant.
  18. For those who just cast soft tossers aside and think they have no chance of ever making it in the majors there is this guy named Jamie Moyer who seems to have done ok for himself in the majors. You can't always judge a book by it's cover.
  19. Didn't Johnson leave his last arm with right shoulder tightness? With his injury history I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. He could be very close to being done.
  20. Doing illegal drugs when there are potentially millions of dollars on the line for you would constitute a mental weakness. Not sure how you could possibly spin that any other way. It's not like it was performance enhancing and going to help him. Lots of young pitchers struggle at times. All I'm questioning is with his history whether he has the mental makeup to get through them. Time will tell. Jeffress would be a key cog in any trade as other teams would pay a premium for the raw talent he has at is age thinking with their own coaching he could put it all together.
  21. I'm pretty sure it's all in his head. Whether he ever turns it around or not it's time will tell. At his age he has lots of time to develop or not. It takes experience to break through at times and talent will only take you so far. I've always been open to trading any prospect. If we still have a record in the top 5 in baseball come the trade deadline I doubt Jeffress will be a Brewer. There will likely be several other prospects looking at new addresses as well. Salary really isn't relevant at that point as you can trade someone back away for other prospects in the offseason and playoff revenue and increased souvenir sales around the world help to offset the salary anyways. Jeffress has always had questions about his mental makeup since his suspension and it will never be any different. Even if he wins 300 games in the majors he'll still have that asterix beside his name. Same goes for any other player who has an similar issue.
  22. I wish him the best. Always rooted for the guy over the years. I would be very surprised if anyone claims him though if he hasn't passed through waivers yet.
  23. Branyan, Lamb. What's the difference? They are both very marginal major league players. Branyan may have caught a break in signing with a very bad Seattle team where there is no one to replace him. He's filler material until Seattle can develop, trade for or sign a replacementand nothing more. I give him one year. I give him credit for carving out a career though with border line talent. He's the kind of player like Tony Gwynn Jr. If TGJ leaves the organization you'll likely never hear about him again yet there are multiple threads on this board about him. Anyone remember Pete Rose Jr? I didn't think so.
  24. We should have let him walk in the offseason and picked up someone else. If he had been taken anywhere other than the 1st round we would have bailed by now but we have too much money invested I guess. I'm thinking Rickie would make a good bat boy or maybe he could be one of the sausages. Other than that I don't see where he fits in.
  25. Come the middle of May offer him a pro rated $15 million dollar deal. If he takes a year off at his age the chances of him being as dominant as he has been slim down quite a bit. He's unlikely to be signed now at the start of the year.
