  1. 1-2-3 for Koenig. Job done for the 7th. Let's get a couple insurance runs.
  2. Missed the chance for a decisive blow with Turang at the plate.
  3. And it's a 2-for-3 night for Joey O so far..... Go figure.
  4. Indeed. Patrick was a very serviceable back-end starter. But letting him cut loose in relief for a few innings has been a bit of a revelation also.
  5. Chad Patrick on in relief. Need the bridge innings to the top tier game closers.
  6. Yet another zero from Miz. Have the 3-4-5 hitters coming up in the 5th. They've been money tonight. Chance to land a big haymaker with a crooked number.
  7. More two out runs. Story of the night so far for the Brewers' offense.
  8. Another 3-run bomb for the Brewers!!!! CHOURIO!!!!
  9. Ortiz with a hit? A couple games so far this series with him getting on base.
  10. Another zero from Miz! Would love one of the trademark 4-run innings to start to break this game open.
  11. 2-out run from a 1-man rally by Contreras. Nice to get the lead. Hope Miz can hold it for at least one more inning.
  12. A home run for the Brewers again? Way to go, Contreras!
  13. A bit of an adventure, but still a zero on the board from the Miz in the 3rd. Let's see the offense the second time around can get more runs.
  14. Please be the Good Miz tonight......
  15. Got out of the ump-assisted jam scoreless, thankfully.
  16. Complete two-out rally for all three runs. Gotta love that ability to get runs across from nothing. Seems to be something happening more this season than in past years.
  17. Well, it's an 8 inning game now.
  18. VAUGHN!!!!!!! That's how you fight back!
  19. Set up for Vaughn against the lefty. Need some clutch two-out RBIs.
  20. 9 innings of offense available. But getting burned by a Cubs homer with two men on base hurts. Feels like an answer with at least a run in the bottom of the 1st is necessary.
  21. That is the Ashby start that needed to be avoided.
  22. That is some pleasantly surprising news about Chourio.
  23. Chourio not playing tonight would be my assumption also. Sitting him for Game 2 and then evaluating after another day off before Game 3 can make sense. Being up 1-0 in the series makes playing Game 2 short-handed on the bench a risk that the team is willing to take, if there is a significant possibility that Chourio could be healthy enough to play later in the NLDS or in the NLCS. That math would change depending on the results of Game 2, as well as what is learned about Chourio's health: If the Brewers win Game 2, they could go the rest of the NLDS carrying Chourio on the bench, essentially playing with a 24-man roster. If the Brewers lose Game 2, they probably need to replace Chourio to try to ensure advancing to the NLCS, though it would make him ineligible for that series.
  24. One aspect of playoff bullpen usage that isn't considered as much in the regular season is seeing pitchers multiple times. It's a topic brought up on podcasts and other discussions about playoff baseball. In the regular season, a reliever might typically face the same team twice in a three game series, maybe three times in a four game series. The question arises whether seeing a reliever with frequency in a five game or seven game series might give batters just a little bit more of an advantage than typical in the regular season. How much of an advantage is unknown, likely dependent on the skills of both the batter and pitcher. If any advantage is gained by seeing pitchers multiple times, then not showing any of their top tier relievers in Game 1 might have been beneficial--even slightly--to the Cubs. The Brewers gave the Cubs a look at Ashby for just one batter in the 6th (Crow-Armstrong) and the 7th (Swanson, Shaw, Busch) and Koenig for the 8th (Hoerner, Tucker, Suzuki, Happ). That wasn't much, but could the game have been finished without bringing in any of the Brewers "A Bullpen"? Maybe it won't amount to anything, but the thought crossed my mind.
