  1. Call them “The Squanderers”. Been the theme for 2022. Double digit LOB tonight. Can’t pass up that many scoring opportunities and expect to win games.
  2. Scored four in the 7th, but felt like a bigger inning went missing. Time to see if Houser can pitch well with a decent lead.
  3. Multiple runs without a home run. Very nice to see!
  4. I understand the “not have the starter face a third time through the order” concept that Counsell uses. But it didn’t work very well last night. The bullpen isn’t as lockdown as in past seasons. And the offense hasn’t exactly lit up the scoreboard frequently. So it’s walking the tightrope again for four innings, when Peralta looked competent enough to get the 6th inning.
  5. Offense has been lousy again tonight. Just two innings (1st and 4th) with any sort of threat or life. Get a great start out of Alexander, but then the bullpen has to walk a tightrope for four innings to try to get the win. That’s a tough script to follow, regardless of roster talent. Still a chance to comeback and win, but that might be catching lightning in a bottle tonight.
  6. Williams might not be available tonight. So maybe keeping Rogers as closer?
  7. Seems right. But needing 4 innings of work from the bullpen seems to add a bit more “must win” to the game outcome besides the playoff chase implications. Need a shutdown 6th inning. Then put some crooked numbers on the board, so the lower tier relievers can secure the win.
  8. Sounded good off the bat for Wong. Long arcing homer, taking its time to clear the fence.
  9. Can’t get it to work too well from the ballpark, but this page should get you the 2022 batting splits for Cruz: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=cruzon01&year=2022&t=b Look for the “Show Opponent” tab/subsection.
  10. Big moment from the rookie. Laser beam homer to tie it up late.
  11. One might think so. But how many innings with two runners on came up empty tonight? It just feels torturous to watch the hitting with RISP, even though the season batting stats show a .251 BA with RISP.
  12. Just wish Taylor would make more frequent contact. A lot of power in that bat, but a lot of swing and miss also.
  13. Taylor has definitely been overexposed this year as a starting CF. Don’t see much reason why Ruiz isn’t already called up, given he’s currently on the 40-man roster. (Wouldn’t need an addition like Turang or Frelick, though I wouldn’t mind seeing them up in September.) Might as well see what he might be able to produce. Can still keep Taylor as the 5th outfielder.
  14. This team is so lost right now. Almost need to pull the alarm switch. Call up Frelick, Turang, and Ruiz. See if an infusion of new faces on the roster might be a jump start shock of some sort. Several guys won't be back after 2022. See if the youngsters might show better fielding and hitting approaches. May even snag a wild card spot while they're at it. At least the team would be interesting to watch, which is not what this roster is currently.
  15. Shutdown 8th after taking the lead. Could use a couple tack-on runs in the 9th.
  16. Assuming that I did the Baseball Reference summing correctly for August, when the post trade deadline slide started, the team has a 6-10 record with the following stats: BA - .206 OBP - .295 SLG - .377 Runs/Game average - 3.8 Even worse, the pitching has given up 4.2 runs/game in that same period, though only 3.8 earned runs/game. Four of the losses were by 1-run. So both the bats and gloves have been letting the team down.
  17. It appears that the Brewers are now 5-12 this season in games started by Ashby.
  18. That’s what makes this team so maddeningly frustrating to watch this year. Seems like game results have little rhyme or reason compared to the expected performances of a predicted playoff team. Dangerous time to lose multiple games in Chicago before heading to Los Angeles with the way St. Louis is playing right now. Don’t want to say “must win” for two games in August, but the games on Saturday and Sunday could be crucial.
  19. Renfroe got way more than enough. That’s a major league bomb.
  20. Elevate the ball and hope it carries out. Tellez just got enough.
  21. He can’t seem to put away batters when ahead 0-2 and 1-2 like his pitching stuff would seem to dictate. Maybe that gets better with more experience pitching in the big leagues. But it appears to be his current weak point.
