  1. I just flipped on the news and caught the very end of a story, and I thought they were saying they were going to do the pre and post game shows from Wisconsin Dells. Has anyone else heard this? If so, what days will they be there and where?
  2. I asked this to myself a couple weeks ago, and it still puzzles me. How can the Giants keep trotting Omar Vizquel out there? I understand they are a bad team, but how can any team keep sending a .150 hitter out there?
  3. I agree to a point, but the guy's lowest season ERA since 2005 is 4.67. I know ERA isn't the best way to measure a reliever, but it does say something. Do Yost and Maddux really believe they can correct something that 3 other teams failed to do? And he has been horrible for almost 2 months now. Why did they wait this long to take the time to correct it? This just really boggles my mind. I just don't know when they are going to pitch him. The Brewers play so many close games, I would really only feel comfortable (or as comfortable as I'd get) bringing him in with a 5+ run deficit. That means over the last month, we've had 5 games where we've lost by 5 or more runs... and 4 of them the pen was a big contributer to tacking on the the deficit late. So I can say, there has only been 1 game in the last month where we've been able to say "hey, let's punt and bring Mota in to work on things."
  4. I just heard that on the raido. A little ridiculous to move it up 2.5 hours before the start!!
  5. Durham never played in the OF with the White Sox. He's played there once in his career, for 1 inning in 2005.
  6. Reynolds was sent down by Colorado after his last start. So, the way Bill and Brian are talking, I'm guessing Glendon Rusch will be getting the start in his place.
  7. I sent you a message tristar.
  8. I read this yesterday, or this morning, too and thought exactly the same thing about the left handed bat. He makes it sound like a starter, but where would this lefty play? The only real options are center (a small possibility) and second.
  9. I have 2 extra tickets to the Friday, July 25th game against the Houston Astros. They are in section 104, row 5. I just bought them for $36, but totally forgot I have a wedding to attend that weekend. So I'm just hoping I can get my money back. Send me a message if you're interested.
  10. I agree with the "Please, no Franklin Gutierrez" crowd. Looking at his stats, 10 walks in 199 ABs this year. 21 walks in 271 ABs last year. We need a few more guys that are patient at the plate, not more free swingers!! Plus, what would the Brewers do with Shappach now? Are they going to tell Kendall to hit the pine? I don't think so. They don't really have a spot for Shappach at this time.
  11. Something for the people to think about who believe CC wouldn't make that much of a difference. Starting after the All-Star break, most likely Sheets would pitch the first game, and CC the second. If they go with the 5 man rotation the whole year, Sheets will have 1 start against St. Louis and 3 against Chicago. CC will have 2 starts against St. Louis, and 3 against the Cubs. Not saying by any means those are guaranteed wins, but CC would have a big impact on what happens in this division. Plus, if it comes down to the wire, having Sheets and Sabathia pitch the last 2 games of the year would make me very confident.
  12. Since May 14, Mota has allowed runs in 8 of his 16 appearances with an ERA of 8.04. His inning today wasn't as horrible as it looks (2 ground balls) but he still isn't getting people out!!
  13. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the Phillies farm system. But taking just a quick glance, I don't know if they are a good match for Cleveland. Because Cleveland has in mind that they will again be a contender next year, I'm assuming they will want to get pieces back that will have a chance to contribute next year already. I just looked at the top 5 of BA's Phillies top 10 prospects, and this is what I came up with: Carlos Carrasco: Could be a key piece, but he was scratched from his last start because of shoulder soreness with scouts in attendance. That can't be a good thing. Adrian Cardenas: The 2B prospect the Indians may be looking for, but is still in A ball. So he's still a couple, if not more, years from contributing. Joe Savery: Struggling in A ball. Josh Outman: Having a solid year in AA as a relief pitcher. Kyle Drabeck: On the DL, and I don't believe he has pitched in '08. (Had Tommy John surgery in 07) Like I said, I don't know anything about the Phils system. But just taking a quick glance, if Cleveland is interested in players that may contribute next year, the Phils don't appear to have that... Especially is Carrasco is hurt.
  14. How sad is it that the first 2 batters due for the Giants have a .000 and .148 avg... and neither are pitchers?!
  15. I'm just kind of typing out loud here, but putting a couple rumors together... and this may make some sense. 1. The one rumor says that the Brewers may make Hardy and/or Weeks available. 2. The Brewers are rumored to be interested in Sabathia. 3. The Indians have Jamey Carroll playing 2B. 4. The D-Backs are hurting in the OF. 5. Sutton says a deal between the clubs may happen. 6. The Brewers have a glut of top Prospects in AA that are close to being ready. A. The Brewers trade an OF prospect+ to Arizona for Hudson.(or possibly a player like Kapler plus another more advanced OF prospect) B. This opens up the Brewers to send Weeks to Cleveland in a Sabathia deal, and may allow us to keep Laporta, Gamel, and Escobar... depending on how Cleveland values Weeks. So now we have 2 gold glove caliber players at 2B and SS. We actually may improve our offense with the addition of Hudson. We are possibly able to keep our 3 prospects in Huntsville. And we acquire a pitcher who can hopefully put us over the top. The downside, I believe Hudson is a free agent after this season. Sabathia is definitely a free agent after this year. All of this may, or may not, be a possibility... I'm just kinda throwing thoughts around in my head right now.
  16. There's a bit on mlbtraderumors.com that comes from Ken Rosenthal saying the Brewers have inquired about Vicente Padilla. I liked the idea until I saw his salary which is $11M this season, $12M next, and a $12M option for 2010. That isn't horrible, but I'm still holding out hope the Brewers can re-sign Sheets or Sabathia, if they do acquire him.
  17. I've stayed at a few hotels where teams have been staying at, but at almost every one the rule has been no autographs in the Hotel. A couple of my experiences with hotels: We stayed in the same hotel as the Texas Rangers in Chicago when Nolan Ryan was with the Rangers. I saw Reuben Sierra and Juan Gonzalez in the lobby and asked for their autograph. They signed, but I was quickly run down by a hotel employee and was told no autographs in the lobby. Nolan Ryan was pretty cool though. He would line everyone up by the bus and sign for everyone before he went to the stadium. Another was in Detroit, we stayed at the same hotel as the Lions did while they were in training camp. Autographs were again not allowed inside the hotel. Wayne Fontes was the coach then, and we were getting autographs in the parking lot. Fontes got talking to us, and when he found out we were staying in the hotel, he told us to come in and told the employees it was ok for us to get autographs inside. We really wanted Barry Sanders, and Fontes told us to wait in the lobby because he would be through before the 11:00 curfew. Sure enough, at about 10:58, in walks Sanders. My friend and I were about 12 at the time and had been waiting in the lobby for 3 hours... and were the only 2 in the lobby. We asked him for an autograph, but he said "I'm all out." and walked to the elevator. We stayed in the same hotel as the Brewers in spring training back in the early 90's. It just so happened that Gary Sheffield was staying in the room next to us with Kevin Brown. One night they had a huge party, and my parents were not happy. They called the front desk a bunch of times, but they weren't going to do anything about it. The next morning we turn on the tv, and Sheffield had been traded to the Padres! But again, no autographs in the hotel premises. The Packers hotel that rookies/new vets stay at during mini-camp in Green Bay also prohibits autographs in the lobby. We stayed there with the team a number of times, but one year my mom and I each had pretty cool experiences. This was Donald Driver's rookie year, my mom and I were down by the pool. I was playing video games and my mom was in the hot tub. Well, Driver and De'Mond Parker came down. Driver sat in the hot tub with my mom for about an hour, chatting away with her the whole time. We didn't know much about him at the time besides him being a rookie 7th rounder. But he told my mom that he would make the team because he "had great hands." I ended up playing 4 games of pool with Parker. We were both horrible, and had the cue ball bouncing off the table multiple times, but it was still fun and something I will always remember. The one hotel that did allow autographs in the lobby was in Atlanta. We stayed at the same hotel as the Falcons during their spring training. This was back when the Falcons were horrible, so we hung out by the dining hall and were the only ones there. Chuck Smith and Ed West were pretty cool. They sat and talked with us for quite a while.
  18. Yeah, I totally agree with splitterpfj. He is having a great year. Why would he sign an extension now when his value is just going up? Wait till the offseason and I'm sure something will get worked out. And even if it doesn't, why would they trade him now?
  19. I'm just curious if there's a site somewhere that tells which first round draft picks have signed already? Thanks.
  20. Ha... you think you had it bad for this? First off, that wasn't G-Rob... that was another seller. But I was right there too. Pujols had my ball and pen IN HAND. He then saw the guy who was trying to get 2, asked him a bout it. The guy said no he didn't, but Pujols checked. He handed me back my ball and pen UNSIGNED and stormed off. I believe that guy had already gotten 2 autographs and was going for his third. And he was laughing about it about 30 seconds later, and I just wanted to give him a knuckle sandwich. But I agree, John is super nice. He has no idea of my name or anything, but always comes over and talks to me when I see him around.
  21. Yeah, I saw the Shouse/Sheets photo signing thing myself. What he did was had 3 8x10's. The top one was Shouse, and the 2 under were Sheets. Shouse signed the top one, and he moved the top one up just enough for Shouse to sign the one below it without seeing the photo below was of Sheets. I'm pretty sure the time I saw it happen, Shouse noticed the photo under was not of him and wouldn't sign. But that guy with the scar on his face it bad news. I had to laugh a couple of weeks ago when Minnesota was in town. Mauer was signing down by the Twins dugout before the game. If you wanted a sweetspot baseball signed, he asked your name and signed it to you, but anything else he just signed his normal signature. The guy with the scar came up and handed Mauer a magazine to sign. Mauer took it, and signed it something like "To (Whatever his name is), Thanks for the support. Best wishes, Joe Mauer." The funny part was, he didn't even have to ask his name! I just couldn't believe even opposing players were aware of him.
  22. Shouldn't that be 4-2? By my count, the Brewers are 14-6 so far.
  23. I was at Alcott Park. I got there pretty early, and was towards the front of the Sheets line. We were probably 25-30 back. I was able to get Sheets, Bush, and Skaalan. I would have been able to get DiFelice too, but we wanted to sit in the shade for a bit. The guy behind me was able to get Sheets and stand in the pretty long Kendall line, and make it through with about 5 minutes to spare. I would have estimated about 400-500 people at Alcott Park. It was a pretty nice set up.
  24. He says he'll be in the lineup tomorrow. LINK
  25. I was pumped when I read this, but I just heard on the radio that 94 East bound is now down to 1 lane in that area because the water is still rising and now onto the interstate. I really feel for the people that have to commute that stretch to work every day.
