  1. We're going with the name 'Woody', we're sure? Woody's Roundup Come on, it's time to play
  2. Please note that swearing the forum will get a post removed. Just want to remind everyone. Thanks.
  3. Cardinals designated Josh Lucas today. An older rookie - age 27. Struck out 68 batters in 60 innings last year at AAA - only 12 walks and a 3.15 ERA. Pretty good for the Pacific Coast League. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lucas-002jos Makes me a bit wary that the Cards would let him go - but he in an interesting arm.
  4. This draft class is having its issues. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/athletics-prospect-a-j-puk-may-be-dealing-with-elbow-ligament-issue.html
  5. Yes. Missed almost the entire year with an injury to the same foot.
  6. I am locking this thread and pointing over to the Transactions/Rumors forum where there is a discussion about this very thing already going on. Just follow the link: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=36543
  7. Jenkins was a good player for Milwaukee. I don't fault him for the bad teams. I really liked his effort on the field. If he could have hit lefties a bit better - and been luckier with his health - he would have been pretty special.
  8. I don't know how Lind left the Yankees - that is, was it on good terms? Did he look all right when he did play? That sort of thing. If they weren't impressed with him, they may not see him as an option. Assuming they want the left handed bat, to me he'd be a perfectly reasonable option for 2-3 months until Bird is back. Or maybe they'll just plug Walker into 1B.
  9. I have to agree that Choi/Thames/Aguilar aren't going to garner much of anything in a trade. As people have noted, there are numerous stopgap type guys available, including Mark Reynolds, Brandon Moss, and Adam Lind. You could even expand that to some outfielders (if the club thought they could play 1B) - such as Jayson Werth and Jose Bautista. The attractive thing about Choi and Aguilar would be price - both make the minimum. Even if you added them - and were forced to release them later - you wouldn't be on the hook for much money. Plus, both have been in camp all spring, so unlike a guy like Reynolds, they wouldn't need anytime to get back in the swing of things.
  10. I really hope Taylor Williams makes the team. I think the guy can be something special.
  11. You would think, but it's amazing how clueless some people are about things.
  12. Initially, I expected Yo to make the team as a long reliever/spot starter type of guy. But if the guy didn't look good in camp, I'm glad we aren't keeping him. I'm tired of keeping guys who are obviously not quality players anymore. There just isn't any upside to keeping a player like Yo - even if I like the guy.
  13. “Our entire strategy is based on a philosophy that young players need to play. We will continue, regardless of what stage we’re in, to take chances on young players. We cannot block young players. We think we have a number of young starting pitchers, whether it’s this year or next year, who have the ability to make an impact on the major-league level." This is why all the speculation and all the handwringing and all the belief that we didn't do enough this offseason really doesn't hold water. The club has a plan and they are sticking to it. Whether we like that doesn't matter - it's the way things are. I do not doubt that the Brewers looked at the top pitchers - Arrieta, Darvish, Archer - but just couldn't come to any agreements. They then allocated their money and prospect capital to Cain, Chacin, Yelich and some lower level arms (Gallardo, Logan, Albers).
  14. I would suggest blocking a poster if you don't like his stuff.
  15. That's my first thought. I appreciate what he did last year, but he's such a limited player it makes him expendable at this point.
  16. I agree with this. If the team didn't want to get stuck in a long term deal at this time for one of those pitchers - so be it. There are consequences as the rotation is questionable, but that's how things go.
  17. I would have been okay with Cobb at 4/$55-50M, but it would not have thrilled me. I just don't see a lot of upside. He certainly would have been a good player to have, but I hate shelling out $14-15M a year to a guy who isn't that good. While I'm concerned about the rotation, i also feel that if this club is going to win it needs to develop good, young players - and we have numerous starting pitchers that fit that bill. Burnes, Ortiz, Woodruff - maybe even Suter. With Nelson hopefully due back by the break, I feel that we can take the risk and go with what we have. It's not my favorite option - I just don't trust Guerra/Miley/Suter in the rotation - but I will give it a try. In the end, Cobb doesn't put us over the top. He's not making us a great team or anything. Again, he'd be a fine addition - but I understand passing at his price. I really value financial flexibility - and I'd rather see us be able to add someone special - such as Houston adding Verdlander last year - than go with someone I think is good - but not great. Lots of risks - but that's okay. I'm just going to have fun with it.
  18. KeithStone, can you confirm if this is Braden Webb or Tyler Webb. I'm guessing Braden Webb - but please let me know what it should be. Thanks.
  19. Thanks to everyone for your submissions. Keep them coming. You have about 10 days to get your list in.
  20. I'd have no problem giving Holland $7-8M for a year - even if it means giving up our 4th pick. If the team is doing well, having a talented late inning guy would be great. If the club isn't doing great, you could deal him at the deadline. However, the team has to feel he's healthy. His second half collapse last year was pretty pronounced. I honestly don't know that much about his struggles after the all-star break (was it health, did he just run out of gas after missing the previous season, etc.). The back end of the bullpen with Holland, Hader and Knebel would look pretty sweet (at least on paper). I find it unlikely that Holland signs with Milwaukee since he won't be the closer. Not sure if any other team has an opening for closer, but several contending clubs (Cubs and Cardinals for instance) have closing situations where you don't have a definitive closer. He would probably be best finding a good club like those and working his way into the closing job - as opposed to having Knebel in his way.

  22. Excellent point. I added that to my original post. Thanks.
