31 games left and Milwaukee is in the thick of the division race - not just the wild card race. I've said this before, but it's up to us to take this. We're mostly healthy. Let's hope some guys get hot, and none of the young players hit a wall.

I lived about 30 minutes from Colorado Springs for five years (just moved back to Wisconsin this past May). Here's my advice: 1. Colorado has tons of breweries. Colorado Springs has a half dozen or so. I would just look them up online and see which ones appeal to you. 2. For an easy visit, go to Garden of the Gods. It's free, and one of the most beautiful places in the area. You don't have to hike - you can just wander around the main area of the Garden (which is paved, so it's really easy). 3. I did not drive up Pike's Peak - but I did drive up Mount Evans - which is similar. It didn't bother me, but my wife was pretty freaked out by it. The roads can be kind of unnerving. We took the Cog Railway up the mountain. That was pretty cool - much calmer than the drive. The Cog Railway is located in Manitou Springs - not far from Colorado Springs. Manitou Springs is interesting. It's a bit cheesy tourist destination with crappy nicknack stores and gift shops, but there are some nice restaurants and nice shops. Lots of distracting things. 4. For shopping and wandering, Old Colorado City is pretty nice. It's got lots of boutique shops, galleries and little restaurants. It has a historic, wild west feel to it. 5. If you want a fancy meal, you can go to the Broadmoor Hotel. Be warned - quite expensive. 6. I never went, but people say that the Cheyanne Mountain Zoo is really nice (if zoos are your thing). 7. You can drive to Canon City and see the Royal Gorge. There is a suspension bridge over the Arkansas River - a 1000 foot down. It's pretty cool (and really disconcerting). I think it's about 30 minutes from CS. 8. If you like Zip Lining - there's tons of places in Colorado for it. You can even zip line over the Royal Gorge. Yikes. 9. Water rafting is all over the place. Just have to find out the good ones. And the water can be quite cold. 10. Train rides. There are some wonderful train rides in the mountains. I'd just look around and figure out what you want to see, and the time you want to commit. Have fun.

Marcos Diplan was not in control of his stuff this evening. In addition to giving up eight hits and four walks - he didn’t strike out a batter. Lucas Erceg paced the Mudcat hitters, smashing his 14th HR of the season - and tying Troy Stokes, Jr. for the team lead. Mudcat hitters did themselves no favors, going 1-9 with runners in scoring position and stranding nine. Pitching Summary: Marcos Diplan: 5.2 IP, 8 hits, 7 ER, 4BB, 0K, Lose Wuilder Rodriguez: 1.1 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, 3K Frank Lopez: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1BB, 0K Hitting Summary: Lucas Erceg: 1-2, HR, 2 BB Luis Aviles: 2-4, 2B, 2 SB Weston Wilson: 2-4 Trent Clark: 1-4, BB, 2 SB Aviles has 36 SB on the season, while Clark has 33. Orf's success has been greatly aided by Colorado Springs. Here's his AAA numbers the last two years: 2017: .986 OPS at home vs .781 OPS on road 2016: .913 OPS at home vs .559 OPS on road It doesn't mean he can't contribute to the big league team - I'm just wary of guys like this. If he could play SS, that would help him immensely. But right now, he seems to do exactly what Hernan Perez does. That's going to limit him opportunities.

Brewer Minor League Free Agents After the 2017 Season
Matt Breen replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
The only guy I really care much about is Nick Ramirez. You put up his numbers (1.30 ERA in 69 IP) after not having pitched in years - that's intriguing. I was a fan of Michael Reed, but he appears to need a change of scenery. I thought Goforth could be a decent reliever - but he just keeps underwhelming. I guess it's time to move on. Again, maybe a good change of scenery guy. A lot of the other guys are just organizational filler types. As people have noted, many will be resigned. Others will move on, and we'll sign someone else's middling players to fill spots in the org. I wouldn't be surprised if Burgos comes back. The club seems to value his presence in the system (sort of like Dillard). -
Carolina totals season high 17 hits in 9-4 loss to Keys Harrison, Hummel and McDowell each had three hits in Saturday's home loss By Carolina Mudcats Carolina Box Score That was a weird game. The Mudcats had 17 hits but could only manage four runs as the team went 3-14 with runners in scoring position. Frederick, meanwhile, had three HRs - and took advantage of three Mudcat errors - to score a 9-4 victory over Carolina. By losing, Carolina missed a chance to get to .500 on the season. Pitching Summary: Conor Harber: 5.0 IP, 6 hits, 5 ER, 1BB, 1K, Lose Trey Supak: 4.0 IP, 3 hits, 2 ER, 1BB, 3K Hitting Summary: Monte Harrison: 3-5 Cooper Hummel: 3-5, 2B Max McDowell: 3-5 Luis Aviles: 2-5, HR Corey Ray: 2-5, 2 SB Trent Clark: 2-5, 2B Carolina Game Log Carolina gave up runs in five of the nine innings on Saturday.

Once he can improves on his 55 walks, then he'll start earning some real notice. But the guy's been effective - limiting hits in a big way (only 68 this year).

Manfred says no to machines calling balls and strikes
Matt Breen replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
If I made errors 10% of the time at my job I'd be fired - and justifiably so. I would love robot umps for calling balls and strikes. While it takes away the 'human' element - it offers the opportunity to get things right - that's the most important thing. -

2017 Minor League Transaction Thread
Matt Breen replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Technically, that move was to make room for RHP Hiram Burgos, up from Biloxi. But lookie here. If not a misplaced entry by one of the affiliates, RHP Corbin Burnes, who already skipped Wisconsin, is double-jumping from Carolina to Biloxi to Colorado Springs this year. Wow. Wasn't Burnes drafted last year? Yep. I wouldn't even be surprised if is put on the 40-man roster and brought up in September. DFAing Paolo Espino isn't going to crush anyone (except Paolo). Burnes might be a nice live arm for the rest of the season. They could still start him at AAA next year so he doesn't start his arby clock just yet, but the experience might be good for him - and he might help out. -
-
Something to consider. We just have to know that there is a good chance that Keon is going to be an inconsistent player - and be willing to live with it. On the flip side, Domingo looks like he could be a 30-35 HR guy. He just turned 25 a couple of weeks ago. There's a lot of potential there.
-
Adding Votto is a fun idea. I love the guy. Amazing hitter. Scary committing to a guy in his late 30s, but you never know. For what it's worth, he has raked at Miller Park - 1.085 OPS in his career (307 plate appearances). But that probably has more to do with our crappy pitching over the years than the park. Cincy doesn't seem interested in trading Votto - and he's said he wants to stay.
-
Brewers are 1.5 games back of the Cubs, 4 games back of Dbacks, 5 games back of the Rockies. While I wish we were doing better, I'm happy with our chances now. It's about winning now. The pitching has been better over the last month or so, and our bats are waking up. I'll take that scenario going forward. We have pretty tough schedule ahead of us, but I'm good that we are in this fight at this point - let's just keep winning.
