  1. Why would the Angels trade their leadoff hitter when they're hoping to contend? I was trying to figure out the same thing. He would be great but I think Frazier is the most realistic option at this point. The Angels could elect to have David Fletcher play 2B now that Rendon is at 3B. Fletcher came up as a middle IF, but has played 2B, 3B, SS and LF. He hit .290 with a .350 OBP last year, and has five years of control left. He is considered a good defensive player. La Stella is a FA after next season, and if the offer is right, they could, conceivably move him (or Fletcher). However, with the defensive flexibility of Fletcher and La Stella, the Angels probably won't move either. Both should get plenty of ABs. No matter, it can't hurt to check in on either of them.
  2. Hill gets $3M plus ability to add $9.5M in incentives, which can be met by recording only 15 starts and/or 75 innings thrown. Bailey gets $7M. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/twins-reportedly-agree-to-deals-with-rich-hill-homer-bailey.html
  3. I would say no on Russell - unless the team really thinks he has unlocked potential. And they truly feel he is deserving of another chance after his abuse stuff. But otherwise, he's not worth it. We have a promising set of middle infielders in Urias and Hiura. There's no need to have someone taking away their playing time at this stage. And at this stage, Russell's bat simply isn't that good to play 3B. He's a .700 OPS player - although he seems like he should be better. And he's always graded out well on defense. The abuse allegations are certainly a huge issue. The team would have to have some serious conversations with the guy before considering adding him to the club. As noted, it probably isn't worth it.
  4. I am of the belief that the Brewers will trade for a third baseman, or sign someone such as Todd Frazier or Asdrubal Cabrera. Both are able to move around the diamond if necessary. Frazier could play 1B, Cabrera 1B, 2B and SS (obviously you don't want Cabrera playing SS, but he can in a pinch). Both could be had for a one (or at most two) year deal. I think you'll see a lot of moving around of Sogard, Arias, Arcia and whomever we sign. Hiura is pretty much only a 2B, and Smoak is only a 1B. On the trade side, I think someone like Johan Camargo would be ideal. Or David Fletcher, if the Angels are willing to let him go. Both players could move around the diamond as needed, but focus primarily on 3B. Again, if either player is available is one question. And the cost is another. But if something could be arranged, they would be options for the Crew. If the Angels hold on to Fletcher and shift him to 2B (which I think they should), Tommy La Stella could be available. But he only has one year left before being a FA - and his output last year, while impressive, could be a fluke based upon previous performance. A trade of Hader, obviously, wildly expands possibilities. But I just don't know if anyone is willing to give up what we want for him. I want to stress that this is not something I advocate, but it is the solution that I think Milwaukee will use to fill our 3B slot.
  5. Very, very cool. Hope you have a blast. You should post some photos for all to see when all is said and done. I bet a lot of people would find it interesting.
  6. I'm skeptical of an Andujar/Frazier package as Andujar is limited defensively, and Frazier doesn't really have a place in the lineup if we get him. Garcia, Yelich, Cain, Braun (and Gamel, for what it's worth) is a pretty set group. If Stearns really had Frazier in his sights, you would have thought he wouldn't have signed Garcia. As for Andujar -- perhaps Stearns is willing to overlook the defensive flaws (which are not small). But that seems unlikely. And let's not forget, the guy is coming off shoulder surgery. He had a tear in the labrum in his right shoulder. I'm not sure if there's any potential issue there going forward. We would have to feel comfortable with Andujar's rehab before anything is done. No matter, we should hold out for something really special for Hader. I don't want to trade him just to re-stock the farm system or to get a couple of average players. He's a unique weapon, and someone should have to pay up if they want him.
  7. I think the big thing is that if it is a package of prospects, you need to get at least one player to be a major contributor in 2020. Gavin Lux is an example. Or Dustin May. Both are still prospects, but both would likely step into the lineup from day one. It is a huge risk. You trade a guy who is arguable the best at what he does in baseball (albeit, a reliever, which has its limitations) -- you want to get back someone you feel will be special - and soon.
  8. I am a Star Wars fan - seen everyone of the movies (except Solo) in the theater. Saw Rise of Skywalker the other day and liked the movie. Is it great? No. But it was good, and definitely worth seeing for fans of the series. The film jerks around too much from place to place at times, but otherwise, my wife, son and i just had a fun time. There were a lot of nice moments, and it avoided the really bad decisions that plagued Last Jedi. There were a lot of nods to the older films, which was fun without going over the top. I also liked that (unlike Force Awakens) the film was fairly original. For the most part, I was satisfied with how things wrapped up. With a franchise that is so massive it is easy to nitpick the film (and the series) to death. Are there things I wish they had done (or not done)? Sure. But as I said, I had fun at the film - which is what I wanted from Star Wars.
  9. Encarnacion gets a nice deal from the ChiSox. $11M with a $1M buyout on a club option of $12M for 2021. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/white-sox-closing-in-on-deal-with-edwin-encarnacion.html
  10. Strawman, not one person has made the claim that DS is perfect. Pretty close, they seem to LOVE every move he makes, or if they don't love it, they don't criticize it much either. All I'm saying is, it is entirely possible he totally bungles a Hader trade. It's also entirely possible he kills it. It's just that some people, no matter what he may get or any move he makes, will think it's great, even if it's really not. This is ridiculous. Your comments have nothing to do with Hader and are all about arguing about Stearns. If you want to make the 'I hate Stearns' thread or a 'I hate people who don't hate enough on Stearns' thread, go for it. But stop this attacking others crap. You are arguing about stuff simply to argue about stuff.
  11. Personally, I'd love an automated strike zone. Yes, it would be work implementing it. And yes, you'd have to tweak existing rules so they conform to exactly how we want the strike to be defined. But you can do methodically, and make sure the system you want is implemented in the manner everyone is comfortable with.
  12. Miguel Andujar had a nice 2018 at the plate, but here is why people do not want him as a centerpiece of a Hader Trade: In 2018, Andujar: - Ranked as the worst defensive 3rd baseman in baseball. And it wasn't close - getting twice as bad ratings as the next guy. - Ranked the 7th worst defensive player in ALL of baseball according to Fangraphs. - Had the 2nd worst Defensive Runs Saved rating of ANY player in baseball according to Fangraphs. - Ranked the 4th worst defensive player in all of baseball when looking Defensive Runs Saved. Again, that's all of baseball - not just 3B. Bottom line is that he's an awful defender. Perhaps he'll be okay at 1B, but we can't count on that. In the end, his defensive limitations mean he'll struggle to be anything more than just good. Most of us want a really, really good player for Hader. Or a prospect(s) who have all-star potential. Andujar just doesn't seem like that guy. He's good, but that's it. We need more than that for Hader.
  13. I'm not sure this was true. It probably was more about Milwaukee not having the opportunity that Shaw wanted. Let's face it - we weren't going to hand him any job. If Milwaukee wanted Shaw, it was probably at a lower pay rate and the knowledge that he'd have to compete for a job. If that's the case (and I don't think Milwaukee would have offered anything but that), it's not a surprise Shaw wanted to go elsewhere. He wanted a good chance to start and reset his career. I can't blame him for that. Now, perhaps I'm wrong and Shaw specifically said he didn't want to come back to Milwaukee under any circumstance. But that was likely in the context of the opportunities we had for him. In the end, I just don't think we were willing to risk having him here after last season's meltdown, and I can completely understand Shaw's desire for more playing time (and money). Whatever, had had two nice seasons. Last year was just such a tanking - it's hard to fathom. I wish the guy and his family well.
  14. To me, Seager has negative value. And it's not even close. Here's my ideas for Seager: Milwaukee gets: Seager, $20M Seattle gets: Grade C prospect or two (sub Top 25 types) Milwaukee gets: Seager, Justus Sheffield Seattle gets: Grade C prospect or two (sub Top 25 types) Milwaukee gets: Seager, Marco Gonzalez Seattle gets: Freddy Peralta, one or two grade B prospects (guys in the 15-25 prospect range) I could see Orlando Arcia getting dealt in any of these packages. I think he's pretty much got minimal value. Seattle might want to give him another shot as they rebuild - or instead just save their money. Whatever works in my opinion. As you can see, I believe Seager is under water by about $20M. However, maybe I'm underestimating his value.
  15. Price of Clevinger is reportedly sky high. As you would imagine.
  16. One of those inning eatings types that some of us have mentioned. 1-year/$9M isn't a bad deal, even if the guy walks too many batters. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/angels-to-sign-julio-teheran.html
  17. No details. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/white-sox-close-to-signing-gio-gonzalez.html
  18. I expected the Crew to add a 1B-type guy, such as Smoak, Thames or Cron. I figured around $5M would do the job. Still, Smoak makes me uneasy, but I can see the appeal at the price. If he rebounds - even a little - he's a 2.0 WAR type guy. Nothing great, but passable. His defense is probably a bit better than Thames', and he isn't a complete basket case against left handers (which will nice). All and all, nothing inspiring, but I understand the move. I am hoping for an elite bat to be added to the lineup, but I'm not sure it's going to happen. Donaldson would be perfect, but I'm just not seeing that. I'm guessing we'll go toward a lower tier bat, such as 3B Kyle Seager. Definitely not on the level of Donaldson. Otherwise, a trade may be in the works using Hader as bait (no one else, outside of Woodruff, Yelich and Hiura would fetch a high-end bat - and those guys aren't going anywhere). I am hoping to see a good bat, a starting pitcher, and a reliever added in the coming weeks and months. And I'm not talking about grade C type players -- but quality players who can make a difference. All three slots might be asking too much, but we shall see how things fall. Not sure where payroll is going, which obviously affects decisions.
  19. To be honest, if Sogard hits like last year - .290, .810 OPS, 2.6 bWAR - he's a great addition. I'm a bit skeptical that he can repeat the performance - but we shall see.
  20. I have a feeling we are going to have a rotating 2B/3B/SS of Sogard, Urias, Arcia and Hiura. Due to his bat, Hiura is going to play the most - and then the guys who step up are going to get playing time after that.
  21. More potential 3B trade options... Johan Camargo (Braves): Switch hitting 3B that currently projects to be on the Braves bench after the emergence of Austin Riley. Injured last year and had a down performance, but put up a 115 OPS+ and was nearly a 4-win player as a 24 year old in 2018. Also good defensively. Has played every spot on the infield as well as the corner outfield. Good bounce back candidate if healthy. Hunter Dozier (Royals): He projects to be around an .800 OPS hitter. He’s not great defensively. David Fletcher (Angels): Very good defensively. Was bounced from 3B by the Rendon signing. Might move over to 2B for the Angels if they prefer his youth over Tommy La Stella. Tommy La Stella (Angels): Left handed batter that had a 119 OPS+ last season. Played 30 games at 3B in 2019. See above note regarding David Fletcher. Miguel Sanó (Twins): I doubt he gets traded, but there continue to be rumblings that the Twins are in on Donaldson and would either move Sano to 1B or entertain offers. I had forgotten about Carmargo. That would be interesting. I wonder what it would take to get him. I like Fletcher as well - but I imagine he's going to cost a bit to pry away. I also don't mind having him at 3B. I'm not stuck on the position being a power guy.
  22. I can play 3B, thank you very much.
  23. We absolutely loved O and Ka. Saw Love, but it's a bit awkward as we're in our 30s and didn't get everything. The Michael Jackson show....well, we won't see that on principle. If you're okay with spending for a great steak, I say go to Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay. Get the ribcap..I've never seen someone walk disappointed by it, and I've brought about 40 friends and family there. We have a usual waiter--Thomas. He will lead you to a wonderful experience if you trust him. Thank you. We have seen O - many, many years ago (2001 I think). And places to eat - that's fantastic to know. Thank you.
  24. Thanks so much for all of this. I appreciate all the advise.
  25. Betances is reportedly looking for a one-year deal in the $10M range. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/latest-on-dellin-betances.html
