  1. Solid deal for Miley. Good for him.
  2. Well, I got Garcia and Lindblom right. Narvaez for Castro is fine. Instead of Lyles, we signed Anderson. Financially, that was closer to what I had on my list (and one year less). Strasburg? Whiffed there. And the price and years were way higher. But it was a pipe dream anyhow. My non-tenders weren't bad. Missed on Guerra and Claudio. Although we re-signed the latter. I skeptical we deal Hader, but we shall see. I'm guessing we get another starter, but it might be someone like Happ. A lot might depend on where we go with Hader (if anywhere).
  3. More expensive than anticipated, but his was a difficult market to predict. Plus, FAs have generally been making out better than most predictions. It's simply what the market dictated. Cautiously optimistic about Garcia. I'm thinking he is good for .280, 20 or so HRs, and average defense. That's a pretty good player. Not great, but pretty good.
  4. No, because we wouldn't have a decent CF on the roster.
  5. Thank you, everyone. Appreciate the advice.
  6. Donaldson. I'm betting more reliable.
  7. Im looking at getting tickets to Absinthe, and was wondering about seating. For people who have been to the show, any recommendations on where to sit? Does being in the front row matter a lot? That sort of thing. Thanks.
  8. You are correct. Not one person to the point of your post said this was a deal the DBacks are going to regret. The fact is that it is a long deal and a lot of money. It's like you're just looking for an excuse to argue. Of course not. But there is evidence showing that players - as a whole - decline over time. To not take the existing information into account is foolish. Again, it doesn't mean Arizona will regret the signing. It simply is a factor in trying to determine the value of any FA signing. This is one of those questions people ask to justify anything. It's ridiculous. Of course you're going to not regret winning a WS and a guy winning a Cy Young. Are those things likely for AZ? I doubt it. Of course we are envious of teams getting good players. We'd love to have Cole and Strasburg and Rendon. We hope those signings don't work out so we can do better, and it hamstrings those teams in the future. It's reckless and foolish to ignore the financial implications of deals made in baseball. You can't divorce one from the other. Sort of like life. Every person in the world would likely agree that Strasburg, Dole and MadBum will be better than Anderson, Lindblom and Lauer. Again, you can't divorce the financial implications of signing a player. We just don't get Strasburg because we want him. We have to fit him in a budget.
  9. That's a lot of years for MadBum. $17M is a lot too, but I expected something around that. But 5-years is a long time.
  10. I'm not sure how much value Kluber had. Almost a salary dump at this point. Would have been interesting to add him to the rotation. A risk, but interesting.
  11. OF Delino DeShields Jr. and RHP Emmanuel Clase going to Cleveland. I wonder if it's more. Seems pretty light, but I don't know anything about Clase. DeShields Jr. is okay. Nothing special.
  12. At this point, Belt is really just not very good. He's a below average fielder and runner, and his bat is average (or even a bit below average). And the cost - $34M or so - is really high. The club would have to get most of the cost covered, and we'd still have to feel as if he can rebound at the plate. You can might think he could count on some boost for getting out of SF, but his career home/road splits show a higher OPS at home than on the road (although bigger HR numbers). So unless the Crew really feel a rebound is in order, I'd pass.
  13. I said this earlier - but I remember watching Garcia a few years ago and thinking his defense was bad. But I think that's his unathletic build fooling my brain. Plus, I'm going by a limited sample as I only saw him a few times. Sometimes bigger people just don't look athletic -- but they are. I'm guessing Garcia falls in that group, as metrics seem to all agree he is a solid, if unspectacular, RF.
  14. Heyman's tweet: Brewers, Rays and Marlins are among teams in on Avisail Garcia @josefriverap 1st mentioned Brewers
  15. I would do this, but I doubt the Dodgers would. It's a big overpay on their part (I think). Now, I understand that to get Hader they are going to have to overpay. But I think it's just too much. It would certainly be a nice haul for the Brewers. The Brewers could consider taking back Joe Kelly - who is a mediocre reliever at this point. But he's owed $30M over the next three seasons. I wouldn't want to pay all of that - but it's a starting point if we need to take more cash off the Dodgers hands.
  16. League average player? His floor is Moustakas and his ceiling is 5+ WAR. I like Seager a lot, but I think you're overstating him. Seager's floor is probably around the .673 OPS he put up in 2018 (Moose was not been under a .774 OPS since six years ago). I'd probably say Seager is a bit above average. I don't expect the 5.0 WAR seasons he had 4-5 years ago. He's 32 years old - most players don't suddenly revert to the 27 year old selves. But I think he can still be good. A change scenery, better health, etc., can really help a guy. And more importantly, getting out of Seattle will help. For his career, Seager's OPS away from his home ball park is .799. At home it's .732. I would expect him to improve getting into a more friendly hitting environment such as Miller Park (or whatever it's called now). I definitely think we'd have to protect ourselves financially if we traded for him. But I would be okay with Seager as our 3B if something could be worked out.
  17. I don't really want Miguel Andujar as the centerpiece of any deal for Hader. Defensively challenged player (probably needs to move to 1B), barely takes a walk (less than 5% walk rate in career), missed most of last year (only 12 games). Too many question marks. Do I think the guy is a good player? Yes. 27 HRs and 47 2Bs (his 2018 numbers) are pretty sweet. But my Spidey-sense is tingling about the guy. I just don't trust him to make him our 'big' return for a guy such as Hader (who is one of the best at what he does).
  18. Ok, but it's not a "perfect valuation tool" in the same way that HighHeat19 was not a "perfect inside source." Anyway nobody is stopping anyone else from posting them, but I also don't think that should stop the rest of his from expressing our opinion of trade proposals (or rather critiques of trade proposals) based on those numbers. But people tend to just say 'that website is worthless' or whatever - instead of actually addressing the trade. I would just ask people to address the trade that is proposed - even if someone used the trade values website.
  19. As this is a fake report, I'm locking this thread. Thanks, MNBrew, for recognizing this so quickly.
  20. Yes, I'd do this. No, the Dodgers wouldn't. Hader is great - but that's way too much. Pick one of the three and you have a basis for a trade - but not all three. Probably not even two of them. That's my opinion.
  21. I like it. If he doesn't succeed as a starter, he has a chance to at least contribute as a reliever. And the money isn't prohibitive. Slowly but surely, things are coming together.
  22. You can't be serious, right?? They need a LEGIT #2 at worst, none of those guys are even solid #4's. How do any of them improve the rotation significantly?? They might as well light their money on fire. What's with the hostility? He's proposing a bounce back candidate signing -- not a top-of-the-rotation acquisition.
  23. I am one of those people that is still a believer in the talent that Clint Frazier has, but the seriousness of his lingering concussion symptoms is pretty scary stuff. I hope he goes on to have a good baseball career, but it’s sort of worrisome that another head injury could prove career ending for him. Frazier's a guy who could really use a change of scenery. Just let him get someplace out of the limelight and away from his past issues.
  24. I would be fine taking Happ along with a prospect or two. If fills a rotation slot. If Happ does good - we have him for 2021. If not, you get rid of him before the vesting option kicks in. Otherwise, get a guy or two. OF Clint Frazier (doesn't seem to fit in NY, although some defensive questions), RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (was ranked around #65 in pre-2019 Top Prospect rankings), LHP Jordan Montgomery (had a really nice debut in 2017, but missed most of the last two years with TJ surgery) are all bats that could help now - and in the next few years. I'm sure others know the Yankee system to make other suggestions.
