  1. He's been mentioned in past years, so it's not a surprise. With Stearns here, he doesn't have a great path to the GMs chair in Milwaukee, so I do not doubt he'll be interested.
  2. Perhaps getting treatment. No point in sitting out in the bullpen if you can be getting some therapy. I think people are reading way to much into Jeffress not being in the pen.
  3. I love that we just keep winning. We lose one, then come back and win a couple. Not relying on anyone else. Let's just keep winning and things will work itself out as it's supposed to. Go Crew.
  4. I see Eovaldi as a huge risk due to his injury history. The guy's arm could fall off any day. For him, it all comes down to price and years. I like him as a pitcher, but I don't think he'll hold up.

  6. He had more charisma than Guttenberg.
  7. That was the best.
  8. The most games the Rockies can win is 92. So the Brewers need to win 5 to tie for the last wild card spot, 6 to take it outright assuming the Rockies win out. So I'd say the way most people think about it the magic number to clinch a spot is 6. I'm not really sure why that link above is saying 5. Agree - it's 6. Five only extends the season (a one-game playoff to reach the Wild Card game would be counted as a regular season game).
  9. Please use this thread to discuss other games with playoff implications: CHI Cubs @ CHI White Sox - 3:10 pm SF @ St. Louis - 7:15 pm COL @ ARI - 8:40 pm SD @ LAD - 9:10 pm All times CST
  10. Welcome to the board. Not sure about who starts a Wild Card game, but hit up this thread and people are talking about it. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37587
  11. Shockingly betting line still has Baez as the big favorite today. I think the batting title could really help his case...a lot. I'm guessing that reflects what the fans are betting on - and Baez has the big market and well-known name - thus people are going with what they know. If any of that affects the baseball writers, who knows.
  12. Remember, folks, there's an entire thread to discussing the other games going on this evening if you want to check it out: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37591
  13. The Pioneer League cities are sort of divided into Montana - Great Falls, Helena, Missoula, Billings - and Utah/Idaho - Orem, Ogden (both Utah), Idaho Falls (Idaho), and Grand Junction (which is in Colorado, but near the Utah border). The Montana sites are all around 3,000 feet in elevation. The other cities are around 4,500 feet in elevation. Colorado Springs is 6,000 feet. Most of these cities are pretty dry as well, which I'm guessing makes the ball even more lively. I really don't know the difference in playing at 3,000 or 4,500 or 6,000 feet. However, I lived in Colorado for five years, and I can say that the difference between 3,000 and 6,000 is quite pronounced when it comes to things like hiking. How much difference for baseball players - I don't know.
  14. Rangers get Nashville. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/09/rangers-announce-affiliate-agreement-with-nashville-sounds.html That means the Nationals get Fresno. Some surprises there.
  15. I've said this before about Yelich, and that is that getting out of Miami would increase his numbers. From 2015-17: In Miami: 783 ABs, .277 BA, 16 HRs, .763 OPS On the road: 873 ABs, .307 BA, 30 HRs, .867 OPS Based on those numbers, I expected Yelich to hit .300 with 25 HRs. Of course, at age 26, there was room to grow as a hitter. I don't count on those kinds of things, but I hope it happens. To me the really dramatic change has been his ability to hit lefties with more power. From 2015-17 he had a .715 OPS vs lefties. This year it has been .913. That's impressive.
  16. Now within one. 6-5 Time for Bud Norris to lose the game for the Cardinals in the bottom of the 9th.
  17. Harrison hit .240 and 19 HRs at AA. Struck out 215 times, however. Still a ton of talent, but lots of swing and miss. Diaz was pretty much the same as 2017. .230ish batting average, around 15 HR, but 140K. Again, he has talent, shows some power and patience - but big swing and miss tendencies. Was at AA. Jordan Yamamoto did quite well when he wasn't injured. He had a sub 2.00 ERA in around 70 innings between A and AA. But again, he had some injury issues. Interesting. Thanks!! On the whole, you have to think it's a disappointment for Miami. Harrison and Diaz regressed a bit at AA - and the swing and miss tendencies of both is concerning. Yamamoto is encouraging. Great numbers were great this year. A lot of his progress will be determined as to how well his stuff plays against more advanced bats. It's been fine so far - but that exposure has been limited. Brinson has had a bad year - but his defense is a plus, and he's still very young. Some guys just take a little more time. Miami is a good spot for that to happen. They can afford him a long, long leash.
