  1. And people who think run differentials and extreme records in 1 run games don't belong in a thread about team talent should take note of the "crappy Cubs." I agree with this statement I guess when trying to project the rest of the season but after 162 games it really doesn't matter.
  2. Do you take into account the situation of the game? I would think pitchers pitch differently and managers manage differently depending on the score of the game. For example if a pitcher was spotted a 5 run lead early in the game, isn't he pitching differently compared to if the game was tight. I know most pitchers just try to throw strikes in that situation which might inflate a pitchers number in that situation.
  3. The Yankees still have a run differential of +47 and have a record outside the East of 29 - 24. They are a good (not great) team that has gotten their but handed to them in the East. I actually root for the Yankees over the Redsox but getting your butt handed to teams in the East shouldn't be an excuse for their overall record. So what you are saying is that out of the 4 teams handing it to the Yankees, 3 of them are below .500 baseball teams.
  4. I just think it is funny that the AL East has one team over .500 but the media hasn't said one word about it. I do think talent wise the AL East is better than the Central, but wins and losses do matter more than run differential or atleast that is what determines who makes the playoffs. It just seems like some people always need to find a stat to argue wins and losses. I'm pretty sure the Cardinals didn't care what their run differential was last year.
  5. I'm pretty sure ESPN won't be broadcasting how bad the AL East has been this year sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings
  6. Sorry Brian, I didn't forget about you. You were pretty chilled during that time. As far as the wild card goes, the west teams have a lot tougher schedule down the stretch. If the Cubs beat up on the Central, they will be right around 84-90 wins easily.
  7. I'm just pointing out that they may lose some objectively during those times, when they are trying to assess the team's talent I'm just pointing out that they won't ever fall below 10 games over .500 this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. We are only two weeks removed from multiple people predicting the Brewers would be below .500 and in second place in the NL before the all star break. You are making the same mistake but in the opposite direction. The season is a roller coaster And when we were on that bad stretch of baseball, it seemed like you and me were the only people on here telling people to calm down. I am enjoying this season and until the leads get under 5 games (which I don't think it will) I will not be worried one bit about winning the division. All I am saying is that this team will stay 10 games over all year, especially with the schedule. I won't panic if they fall under that 10 game mark, but I just don't see it happening.
  9. I think the Cubs have a chance to win the wild card due to the fact they have a lot of games against the Central...but I don't find them a threat to win the division. The Central is ours. I really don't see the Brewers falling below 10 games over .500 the rest of the year (which would give us a minimum of 86 wins) The Cubs would have to play unbelievable baseball to get to 86 wins the rest of the way. I would think the wild card winner will be around 84-88 wins when it is all said and done.
  10. If the recipe for winning a World Series is to have two or three big name pitchers in the front of the rotation, then how did St. Louis win it last year? I want nothing to do with Buehrle. We have 7 starters, why do we need an 8th. The only way I would do it would be to give up Vargas, Gross and a AA prospect (and I'm sure someone will offer way more to rent Buehrle for the rest of the year) I think St. Louis will get him and sign him to an extension...which I would be fine with.
  11. I think it is pretty funny that a thread like this comes up once a month once T-Bow blows a game. I would take T-Bow over almost any other set-up guy in baseball. The guy is not going to hold the lead every time he comes in. Without looking at stats and just going out of the top of my head, I would say T-Bow has held the lead in atleast 8 out of every 10 appearances this year....to me that is pretty successful.
  12. I think the most impressive thing heading into tonight's game is that no one in the bullpen has an ERA over 4.00. That is awesome.
  13. My guess is between 34,500 and 35,000
  14. Craig Counsell and Tony G. should never be batting #1 and #2 in any line-up on any night. I don't mind giving Braun a night off toinight but the top of the line-up is disgusting.
  15. Good night...I think I might have more posts in this thread than any Branyan thread. Good win Crew and good win brewerfan.
  16. Yost....why are you doing this? Where is Maddux to tell him this is a bad idea?
  17. We were also one out away from winning two out of three. Stuff happens....I'm just glad we got this one. We will not be under .500 by the time we return to Miller Park. Texas might have the worst record in the American League but that really doesn't mean much. They have big league talent and are decent at home.
  18. For how many runners we have had on tonight, we have not grounded into one double play. We are improving.
  19. Just think if this game wasn't an interleague game. We would definately be out of position players.
  20. My vote would be that Villy pitches until the game is over.
  21. Kenny Lofton has to get on base here so Byrd can bat.....doesn't he?
  22. Did Counsell actually get intentionally walked so they could get to Hardy? Boy oh boy.
  23. Why would you bunt there? Now we are counting on Graffy or Craiggers to get a hit. I would have put Gwynn in motion and let Billy try to do something.
  24. Good....now Yost is managing. Swipe on TGJ
