Once a guy is claimed by another team in front of us waiver wire wise, we can't get him... These guys listed will be claimed imo. If no one does and we claim him, we won't get one of the guys listed for just salary... If we work towards a trade, we will need to give up something of worth or a trade simply won't get done.
Part of me wonders if deGrom was the "pitcher almost acquired" that Stearns referred to yesterday. That would have been one heck of a splash. Can't believe that was the deal..... not much news anywhere that deGrom was even on the market, much less traded. I was thinking more along the lines of Archer or Harvey.

It’s the national league. Double switches happen a lot. Shaw was last out. Pitching change coming. It made a ton of sense to put Perez in incase the game gets tied up. Agreed. I didn't hear the announcers mention this, and Shaw's defense and useage has been a topic of concern.
That's very true. Zimmerman could be the leading choice too, with his large contract, WI ties, and somewhat better results. Yet there aren't many matches out there for us.
Not an option on several levels..... - he's pitching well so Nationals are not giving him away - Nationals would want our top 6 minor leaguers back (and maybe Chase) - Nationals would get a much better return in the offseason when many teams could drive up the return - Scherzer would be claimed by a team before getting to us
The problem with us picking up anyone in August is that while we hopefully have one of the best records in the NL, we also will be at the end of the waiver wire line in an ultra competitive NL wild card race. Teams with no intention to get another starter could block our pitching targets by claiming them. Our really only hope is to claim a pitcher with a really large contract. Yet, the danger is the other team simply let's us have him with no prospects going back to bring down part of the cost. It might be very difficult to pick up another valuable piece to the staff this season.
Dude walks around like Fred Sanford and then you see him run a ball down in the gap or fly down the line to beat out a routine double play. My mind has a hard time accepting he’s that fast. Not sure the younger people will get the Sanford reference Addition: Or... you know... pull one back in. Fred Sanford reference...... wow!
The 40 man/Rule 5 crush this coming offseason has been addressed with Brinson, Phillips, Ortiz, Yamamoto, Harrison, Medeiros, Diaz, and Lopez traded. All were Rule 5 eligible. Surely a secondary reason for dealing....
I'm done talking Sogard until he's back up..... my opinion of him brings out the worst in people so it seems. By the way, he isn't even playing at Colorado Springs..... on a reserve list? What is this exactly?
Better defender, bat off the bench, good LD% still this season...... had a good 2017 with more BB than Ks, didn't get 100 ABs in 2018.... liked him in a certain role, especially with runner at 3B. Villar was better this year but couldn't be trusted in the field or basepads and had innumerable chances to play more (even though he had the 6th most ABs on the team!) Watch those racist backhanded attacks.... the parentheses comment does little help, neither does the Jordy stuff. To check yourself, insert another color in for white and see how that sounds.
Ortiz would have needed to be protected next year, correct? With Villar, we save a spot on the 40 man..... ongoing secondary reason for the recent trades.
A few thoughts.... This trade is all about our righty lineup vs lefty pitching (Cubs). School plays 2B and one of Shaw or Moose aplays 3B. School hit .955 OPS against lefties last year (8th best among SS and 2B). He's a hot hitter, and the team needs a jolt. He and Moose provides that. Schoop can play a little SS.
Extremely rare! For your reasoning and mine... That's why I said, "Marlins aren't dealing with the Brewers so soon after the Yelich trade"... But it's not out of some principle thing as you implied. It's out of odds and scenarios aligning twice so quickly is very very rare. A team dumping off their entire roster because they're idiots is such a scenario that could lead to it though. Essentially, it's not like the Marlins aren't talking to MKE because they just did a deal with us as the initial post implied. It's just unlikely the stars align twice so quickly and that we have the best offer twice in that short of a span. My opinion is that some GMs might not be willing to make two big, possibly bad trades with the same team in such a small period of time. It would magnify their mistake so they shy away from initiating talk/dialogue with that team. Opinion. You may disagree, but I'm pretty sure you can't tell me I'm wrong unless you have talked to all the GMs.
