  1. Thon Maker for a cold ham sandwich.
  2. It actually does a lot for your fan base and ticket sales to be more competitive than a 67 win team. Also, I wouldn't dismiss the Reds chances as quickly as you seem to be. If DJ truly is an outstanding pitching coach, he might be able to craft their pitching into a successful enough group. Their offense is as good as any in the NL. Ticket sales aren't as important to team revenue as they used to be. 79 wins is a terrible place to be.
  3. Does he have an option? Oh he doesn't? Probably not a Stearns guy then.
  4. I didn’t think it necessarily needed to be fixed since it wasn’t quite to the point of no return and the discussion remained relatively civil. Just trying to add a touch of lightheartedness to the subtopics that broke out. At this point though you are probably right, lets steer the conversation back toward the primary purpose of the thread. Yep, time to sign Dietrich.
  5. If only this site had mods to fix this..
  6. Someone should teach usage of the edit button.
  7. Why care about something that isn't going to happen?
  8. About the same odds as Lloyd Christmas getting with Mary Swanson.

  10. This would make sense as to why teams inquired on Manny Pina
  11. I should have posted it but Dietrich had a .859 OPS away from Marlins Park in 2018. I don't think it is a fluke as he has a career .816 OPS away from Marlins Park. He should sign cheaply and would be a phenomenal 7 hole hitter. You can always plug in a defensive replacement later in the game for defense. As Joey mentioned earlier, Cabrera has worse defensive ratings according to Baseball Reference.
  12. And Braun is a 3rd baseman...right? My point is Dietrich is not a 2b and shouldn't be considered one. He's an awful defender really everywhere, but especially 2b. He also hasn't seen significant action at 2b in a couple years. He has had appearances at 2nd base every year he has been in the majors (starting in 2013) including a high of 75 all the way back in 2016. He mainly played third base in 2017 which is still infield at least. Ironically, according to baseball reference, he graded out much worse as an outfielder than he did as an infielder. In fact, in 2016, he was 0.1, which he played the most 2nd base. He would definitely be a bat first player for the Brewers. Check out his away splits and you can see why people are interested in him. Ryan Braun last played 3rd base in 2007 so a pretty poor example there but good job being condescending.
  13. I am going to guess Earth where he has 192 career appearances at second base versus Aguilar having 7 career appearances at third.
  14. I went to a friend's party last night. He had tons of food based on how many people said they were coming (did a RSVP) but there were a huge amount of no-shows. Why are people so rude that they do things like that? I get it if the weather is bad but it wasn't a consideration. I don't think he was too bothered about it because we had a good time but what a waste. Don't get me started on those gutless people that say "maybe" on Facebook because they never show up and can't just say no.
  15. Interesting. What would Manny be worth in a trade?
  16. A platoon would likely put up similar numbers than Cabrera with better defense. Although I would definitely take Cabrera over Harrison. No idea what Cabrera is looking for in terms of a contract.
  17. Now that we have catcher figured out, we really only have two areas that could need an upgrade. Let's just assume we have about 10 million dollars available to spend this off-season. How would you spend it? (I know I have "or" in the title but I guess you could sign two guys for 10 million) For me? After seeing some of the guys I like off the board, I would probably lean towards adding another pitcher right now. A Spangenberg/Perez platoon could put up decent numbers. You have Hiura and Dubon in the minors and it is reasonable that one of them will be ready to go this season if needed. As much as I didn't really like the signing last season, offer Miley a one year, 8 million dollar deal and see if he goes for it. (He was projected to get 2 years, 12 million)
  18. I didn't want DJ so I am happy.
  19. Gonzalez is Arcia insurance.
  20. This article makes me want Gonzalez more: https://www.mlb.com/news/marwin-gonzalez-rebounded-in-2018-second-half/c-302459712
  21. He wanted two years and Stearns wasn't going to do that.
  22. How much would you like to bet that Lowrie won't sign for less than 6 million dollars?
  23. Any chance we sign Gonzalez or Lowrie and DFA Perez to save some cash?
