I have been planning on quitting an online part time teaching gig for years. Today I found out I had been laid off due to poor enrollment numbers. It's probably good because it forced the decision and I don't really need the income. They also are telling me I am getting a severance which I did not expect. (I don't expect it to be much) -
I don't see any way that Willy would accept a one year deal unless he has a really brutal season next year.

I think with where we are at, I would tear it down for next year and let the young guys sink/swim. That means I would trade Burnes, Woodruff, Adames and Williams assuming you can get 6-7 Top 100 guys. I know this would completely go against the bites of the apple approach but a one year reset would be fine with me. At the very worst, Burnes has to be traded. We have guys like Houser, Lauer and Rowdy that I would flip at the deadline for even more pieces (assuming they perform well) Give Tyler Black a starting position and not get concerned if he struggles like most rookies do. I would also bring up Chourio after the deadline to get his feet wet. In the rare event that the team would be competitive, you would have a ton of ammo to add if you want. Otherwise you have a clean payroll and can really put together a team in 2025.

My car weighs 3500 lbs, much less than a full size pickup truck. I realize that isn't apples to apples. I think the fact that it has low resistance tires and the high torque will mean more.

I am almost to three years with my EV and all I have done is rotate tires.

Sure they could have done more but they added 2 regular starters to their lineup and another "A" reliever in the bullpen. I think they did more to improve their team than any team at the deadline.

Any idea on where Canha will play or will he be all over and DH? I am kinda hoping we acquire a legitimate DH and then have Frelick in CF and Canha in right. (late game subs for defense)

We've given up very little to acquire Canha and Santana. I like it because we needed some vets that could be around average players. I am surprised the Mets were willing to pay Canha's salary to acquire Jarvis. I still think we make one more move.

I only pickup Soto if you are acquiring at least another bat as well. It is clear Atlanta is the front runner in the NL so we would need to upgrade to get around their level. (assuming they don't add as well) Does this lineup and our pitching re-enforcements give us a chance? Yelich (LF) Soto (RF) Contreras (C) Santana (1B) Jimenez/Tellez (DH) Adames (SS) Anderson (3B) Urias (2B) Wiemer (CF) Yes I know bites of the apple is the philosophy but this would be our best team in a while. If you don't feel like this will give us a decent shot, stick with Frelick and Tellez.

I had EBJ and Lauer going to the White Sox in the Trade Forum. They can say they got a top prospect and a starting pitcher that has had recent success.

Best I would do is Frelick and Quero. Ironically, it is almost exactly a "fair" deal according to BTV. Honestly, I don't know if I'd do it if given the chance.

The Rockies (and White Sox) are definitely teams we should be calling at the deadline. McMahon would fit our needs, defense mostly first philosophy and his contract is favorable. I have no idea why the Trade Values site lists him as a negative value and I certainly do not. We could also take on Grichuk if we want someone that is mainly a lefty mashing DH and the Rockies want to dump some salary. He isn't ideal for us because of his home/away splits and his poor defense but we have a major need for guys that can reliably hit a baseball. The Brewers are in an interesting spot having 2 guys that are young and have had Major League success but are struggling this year. It would not shock me to see the team move Lauer and/or Urias if a team thinks they can "fix" them. I think Urias would be a great fit for the Rockies personally. Here is my Trade Proposal: Brewers: McMahon and Grichuk Rockies: Urias, Small and Mendez My New lineup Yelich (LF) Contreras (C) McMahon (3B) Adames (SS) Tellez (1B) Grichuk/Hiura (DH) Anderson/Perkins (RF) Miller/Turang (2B) Wiemer (CF) End of games put Turang in at 2B and Miller at 1B for defense. DFA Winker and Tapia, send down Jones.

Ohtani would be amazing but he wouldn't make us World Series favorites. We need guys that are above average players to complement our good rotation and awesome bullpen.

I'd still trade for him by the deadline (assuming he isn't out for months). Part of the reason he possibly could be "cheap" is he gets hurt often. I would never play him in the field to try and keep him hitting. (and he sucks defensively)

A guy we should be looking at is Eloy Jimenez. He is a hack in the field but would be an upgrade at DH and has a reasonable contract. According to the MLB trade values site, he has negative value (because his defense sucks) but I don't agree with that. I would give up a guy in our 10-15 or if they want a project like Lauer that would work too. I think we need 2-3 hitters but am prepared for us to only pick up one.

The Angels owner won't trade him to the Dodgers unless Ohtani demands it. I feel like Ohtani will have a say in where he goes.

I used to work 80-100 hour weeks every summer. I stopped doing that now and am only at 40-50. It feels like I am barely working and is awesome.

Do it. I have been an EV owner in a small town with no infrastructure. There has been one time in 3 years where I wish I had an ICE vehicle. The number of times I am glad to have an EV are quite often. As many manufacturers are opening up to the Tesla Supercharger system, that will remove any regrets I could have with an EV. When it comes to EVs not selling, dealers were still adding ADM to the sticker price when I was looking a couple of months ago. It was nice looking but I'm not spending $90,000 on a Mustang Mach-e after fees.
