  1. The reading I did (5-10 minutes) did make him seem like a somewhat less extreme version of Mike Marshall, with his rather regimented view of proper pitching mechanics. He seems more like someone who would be great for some pitchers, and terrible for others due to that. So far as introducing his philosophy through the minor leagues, it may help reduce some of the injuries and help the Brewers develop some pitching from within. I just worry that as the Major League pitching coach, he may try and cram his philosophy down pitcher's throats, who have had success in a different way, and cause them to not do so well, while they are adjusting to and/or finally going back to their prior way. On the other hand, with some of the pitchers this year, it's hard to imagine them doing any worse, even if they are making adjustments based on his biomechanics.
  2. Didn't there used to be a designated vent thread? Or did that stop this year. Maybe I should read the updated 'rules'. Edit: Apparently it is in the rules now. No ventilation on Brewerfan.net! C02 scrubber optional!
  3. From what I heard in pre-game and reading brewers.com, it gives Suppan an extra bullpen session to work on throwing more than 50% of his pitches for strikes. I don't really think it will hurt anything, and maybe that extra bullpen session WILL help Suppan. Plus it will give the bullpen a little bit of extra rest past the off day hopefully, in the good possibility that Suppan doesn't make it into the 5th inning.
  4. I've been wondering what happened to the guy who made these ever since too! Thanks for coming back with more (better late than never) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. I make no claim that this is a definitive improvement, but... if having a sore back makes it so that Braun doesn't swing wildly at the first pitch near the zone and starts taking more walks instead of swinging at junk, that can hardly be a bad thing!
  6. This thread makes me wish I had a PS3 and a decent TV to play this on. Guess I'll stick with MLB '07 on the PS2 for now, as I can't imagine the PS2 version is so much better for '09 to be worth getting. You can only do so much with a PS2 I'd think.
  7. It sounded like the EQ needs to be tweaked (it's probably still set to Jim's old settings), but other than that, fine. It takes time for a duo to get comfortable with each other, and with the late news, there wasn't a whole lot of time for him to prep for this to get as much of the stuff that Jim would always talk about for 'filler'.
  8. Yes, you're right. The Twins pay his original contract minus whatever the team that signs him afterwards pays him. So, when the Brewers picked him up last year, they only signed him again through the end of last season, which is why they had to resign him again. (Wow... how did I end up over 300 posts?! I hardly ever post!)
  9. We did make the playoffs last year, which I'm sure skews the ranking upwards for at least this year's survey.
  10. I may be wrong, but isn't the strength of Kendall's OBP nowadays not so much that he carries a very high OBP, but that his OBP is better than the average #8 hitter? A stat of note: Only Bill Hall and Corey Hart had lower OBPs than Kendall among Brewers that had more than 100 at bats. Weeks' OBP was .342 vs. Kendall at .327 last year. Even with the terrible year Weeks had last year, he was probably still our best option over the course of the season at leadoff.
  11. I thought it was Brewer Blue!
  12. http://www.crazyivanstudios.com/baseball1.jpg http://www.crazyivanstudios.com/baseball2.jpg As you can see, it's getting closer.
  13. 315 down the lines and ~400 in the cf area. Once finished (or at least done up better than current), it will be used in conjuction with green screening for a baseball news clip. Texturing it will make it look a lot better, and I'll get in some light poles and some bleachers to help set the visual scale. Homer, I'll call it the Pentagon in honor of your inspired comment. Good call! The Pentagon: Where bullets come in and bombs go out.
  14. A virtual one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.newwavegamedev.com/download/file.php?id=61 Still very much in progress as you can tell. Just thought I'd share with my baseball comrades.

He is only 24 as well, so I just can't forsee him getting dramatically worse. I can't figure out what in any of his stats makes him project as being bad in either role, especially in the bullpen. (edit: chart prettification --1992)
  16. Don't the Brewers employ more defensive shifting than the average MLB Club? That would explain his OOZ/RZR rating being off, as I don't believe defensive shifts are accounted for in that stat.
  17. I thought most teams normally did their banners just stating what spot they won, rather than adding 'Champion' to it. For the Brewers it would say: 2008 Wild Card. Cubs would be: 2008 NL Central. Dodgers would be either: 2008 NL West or maybe 2008 NLDS because they made it through that round. If the Phillies win the World Series, they get a banner that says 2008 World Champions. If they lose, it's 2008 NLCS or something to that effect. Basically, you put the highest round that you won in the playoffs, or the spot you earned to get there, and no need to put 'winner' or 'champion' on any banner other than that of the World Series winner.
  18. The problem I have with trading Prince Fielder is that he is the only guy in the lineup with top end power who can actually take a walk. Sure, I love Ryan Braun as much as the next guy, but until he improves quite a bit in pitch selection, I don't believe he is capabable of being the anchor of the lineup.
  19. Being a student in Digital Entertainment and Game Design, I've started getting into 3ds Max, and exploring some other 3d software. Without having seen the show, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it was probably CGI. It's amazing how much you can do with those programs... especially if you have the budget that studios have to get kick butt computers to up the poly counts and the number of objects you can work with before your computer pukes, as well as 100+ computer render farms. Add to that, the city names are just subtitled on. Except for big cities with distinctive buildings (NYC with the Empire state building, etc.) that are immediately recognizable, it's not like anyone is going to know whether that's really what that city looks like from over head. So long as the environment looks similar to what people expect of the area, no one is going to call them on it.
  20. And here I thought that meant you had to have a Masters in Business Administration (or whatever that degree is called) to post there.
  21. I thought that I read somewhere that Sheffield got released earlier this year. I guess I was mistaken...
  22. JJ Hardy has sold himself to me after this year. I had figured that the 26 homer year from last year was probably a career year for him, and he'd still be a solid bat, but lucky to get to 20 again. Well, I am now of the opinon that he should be one of the key players to build around over the next five years along with Braun. He has given outstanding offensive production from the shortstop position for two years now, and he's still rather young. Although he hasn't proven to be quite as good defensively as he was made out to be, he is still very solid, even above average there. As to Escobar, I'd like to see him start out at AAA next year for the first 2-3 months, just to try to get a little more polished offensively, and have him move to 2b. Since the right side of the infield is the weakest, I'd rather have the stronger range there, as he would be able to still get balls up the middle that would be just out of range of Hardy at SS, and also cover a little bit for Prince's range deficiencies. Start off the year at 2b still with Weeks/Durham splitting time, and bring up Escobar sooner or later based on how they perform. At 3b, they'd have to decide whether Branyan is going to be able to be counted on to be a platoon with Bill Hall. If not, (and I am leaning towards not, as he has had a tendency to get injured with the Brewers), I would hope to find a 3b similar to Koskie to bring in. I don't really know who is out there who would be similar to Koskie, good LH bat with very good defense. At 1b, I think we should keep Prince for at LEAST for 2009, and I think we should keep him in '10 as well, and then trade him in that off-season. He is the only all around slugger we have on the team for OBP and SLG combined, and think that without him to anchor the lineup, our offense will struggle mightily. Hardy and Hart have been able to carry a good OBP (though Hart has been off of that this year), but neither are the masher that Prince is. Braun is a monster bat, capable of hitting .300, and having a great SLG, but he hasn't proven to be as good at taking walks, so I don't think he can be counted on to be the anchor yet either. I hope he gets better over the next couple years before Prince is gone.
  23. I'd think that by the end of doing that 4 games straight, CCs arm is going to be in rough shape and will probably not be worth pitching in that last game anyways.
  24. Why fine for that? That means the batter likely got a first pitch fastball in a pretty hittable location and got under it just a hair. Unless it's 2 outs right after the pitcher batted (when you're supposed to take a pitch to give them time to get ready or something), I don't see how I could complain about our fastball hitting (normally) lineup taking a rip at one.
