  1. The guy this thread references is actually supposed to be behind home plate tomorrow, not tonight.... unless I missed something. As to names, Joe West sounds familiar, and he's one of the crew.
  2. This may also be a bit of roster fill in after trading away 5 prospects (and one to come at the end of the year) for people added to the major league roster. He's not taking anyone's spot, so I don't see any reason why TGJ 'ers would have any additional feelings over that, or regarding any other player in the outfield at Nashville.
  3. I would assume a short DL stint wouldn't eliminate him from the list unless the Indians decide they don't want him due to him missing a couple weeks. It didn't sound like a major injury or anything.
  4. I don't think Barry Bonds would stoop to signing a minor league deal though.
  5. Link at brewers.com Posted in majors forum as he is a former major leaguer, and article states that Melvin plans to call him up in September for the bench. Low risk signing for possiblity of moderate reward.
  6. Spoken like a true Vulcan, OldSchoolSnapper. This whole, if you feel cranky on a given day, and make an enemy for life thing is the biggest thing I would not like about being a pro athlete or any other kind of celebrity. *oops, forgot I was reading the backlog, didn't mean to bump a bit old of a thread
  7. I'm thinking the mods would prefer it if we get back on topic, or this will grow into a senseless philisophical debate. If there are any bands that the groom likes playing in the area, maybe a concert would be an event to consider.
  8. I personally think the guy was a lot more of a man for standing up to peer pressure that was urging him to do something he felt he shouldn't.
  9. Oddly enough, I was considering burlap for my next set of sheets. Anyone know of a good outlet for burlap bedding? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. You'll get there man. Just keep going after it! Be a gritty fighting battler!
  11. You just said what I did basically. There are situations where you can't just plug numbers into a computer and go with the result. But you can't just ignore the numbers either, so you balance your decisions with stats and scouting.
  12. And that's exactly why smart baseball teams still use scouts AND stats instead of just switching over to computerized drafting and roster management.
  13. Sure he does. It's actually a shorter throw than it is from many plays at shortstop. Plus the ball gets there quicker at 3b allowing him more time to get the ball to 1b. He doesn't have the arm strength to play top end defense there, but both Branyan and Hall have seemed to be quite below that even with better arm strength. It doesn't matter how hard you can throw the ball if you don't get the ball in the first place.
  14. I know I've seen stats on here before that showed that PHers hit at a lower rate than starters, but the question is, do PHers hit at a lower clip because PHing is harder, or because players that are PHing aren't starting for a reason (being that they just aren't as good as starters).
  15. I Split BA OBP SLG OPS BAbip _________________________________ April .202 .336 .346 .682 .228 May .211 .320 .376 .696 .229 June .250 .309 .375 .684 .308 July .234 .308 .383 .691 .333 What I find interesting is that even with Weeks' BAbip normalizing, his OPS and whatnot haven't improved in the past two months. Of course, he missed time in June due to injury, and there was an all star break and a week left in the month for July.
  16. Also, if you ever did any mentoring (Big Brother Big Sister etc), i'd imagine that'd look good. Or doing work with YMCA or Boys and Girls Brigade. Anything that interacts with kids, especially in the grade levels you are looking at. For the meantime, you may also be able to get some kind of part time teaching gig at a college, especially a tech school teaching gen eds. If you're still in Green Bay, check out ITT Tech and see if they have any openings for gen ed teachers (I go there).
  17. I don't know about projection, but with how hot JJ has been, he has about the 3rd best OBP on the team when I checked a week ago. I think it was Prince and Gabe Kapler (in less PT) ahead of him.
  18. - Rule 2.00 (Foul Ball) Comment: A batted ball not touched by a fielder, which hits the pitcher's rubber and rebounds into foul territory, between home and first, or between home and third base is a foul ball. - Slightly off topic, but... how often does THIS happen? It must have happened at least once if they had to make a rule about it...
  19. I remember a blurb somewhere saying many of the Giants had been getting it prior to this as well. Don't ask me where though. Maybe USA Today? It said he was actually hospitalized. *edit* Oh yes, I also saw it in the local Post-Crescent in the recap of the All Star Game bit in the sports section.
  20. If we got to the 15th inning I'd have to think Rivera would have pinch hit by then. As said above, I really only would forsee a pitcher pinch hitting in extra innings once all position players have been used. I do remember earlier this year Suppan needing to do the sac bunt thing as a PHer due to a short bench with people out due to injury but not on the DL. Hopefully we avoid having much of the short bench situation the rest of the year. Anyways, maybe CC can take over for Branyan in the 3b platoon when he's not pitching now that Russell has gone into a power drought.
  21. Remember when the brewers didn't have any pitchers who could hit at all other than circus acts like Brooks? Now we have a pitcher who has some pop, and he's no better than the second best hitting pitcher on our active roster. 3rd if Yovani wasn't on the DL. Manny Parra should be our first extra innings PHer. Then, depending on what we really need, I think Dave Bush might have a bit better chance at getting on base over all, but where pop is needed, go with CC. Or, when Suppan is back, after the all star break, if we just need a run to win or tie, bring him in with a runner on first and no outs as he's arguably the best sac bunter on the team.
  22. 96 pitches in less than 6 innings isn't all that good. If Harden can't get more than 6 innings (as is apparently the case this year) except on rare occasion, I don't see this as doing any favors for the Cubs bullpen.
  23. No, Hall has started more than half of the teams games (though a couple have been at other IF positions). He was the FT starter at 3rd well into May (Didn't Branyan come up May 23rd or so?). So that's about half the games right there. Then playing against lefties and occasional starts at 2b when Rickie was down gets him to probably about 70% of the games. (Just checked to be certain, Hall has started 62 games out of 94 for a total of ~66%)
  24. I'm not contract expert, but I thought a split deal was made for situations like this, to specify a rate for playing in the minors, and a rate for playing in the majors.
  25. Finding out that he has an option next year for only 9 mil makes me tilt this deal more in favor of the Cubs than I had before. I still don't think Melvin got fleeced in the Sabathia deal, but I think Beane should've worked the market for a couple days and seen if another team would offer more than what the Cubs did.
