  1. He's always stood further from the plate than anyone else on the team that I can recall, but not sure if he's been standing further away lately.
  2. Do you find him completely unfunny? (not criticizing, just curious) I admit he doesn't make me fall out of my chair and roll on the floor with incessant guffaws, but he's amusing enough that I generally click the links of him that people share here from time to time and find them amusing, but not to the point that I'm a follower, or go out of my way to seek them out. If he was on the broadcasts in some way, he would probably grow on me, I'm guessing, but hard to say for sure until it happens.
  3. Dave Bush had it feels like a half dozen no hitters into 7th or 8th innings in his few years with the team.
  4. You can still use starts / innings as incentives on a moderate contract where quality is the risk more so than durability, because if the quality is not good enough, they won't reach the starts / innings due to getting sent to the pen or being cut, if they are that bad.
  5. If I had the choice, I'd take both, though I doubt Schoop would have gotten a "double" without the bobbles. Edit: I somehow merged this play with Yelich's single in my mind.
  6. I do enjoy the "strategery" of September callups, and getting a look at more young players, and all that, but I'd be on board with a limitation of only having 28-30 active on a given day. Maybe throw in a "designated emergency catcher" slot too, where you can have a 3rd catcher who would only be available in case of injury to one of your catchers in the game.
  7. Granderson is the worst defensive OF on the team, he is even worse than Thames. I would bet on them keeping Broxton just to fill in for someone late in games if nothing else. Only Granderson or Thames can make it imo, you can't have two completely worthless defensive players who fill the same role. I guess if you go by UZR for 2018, Granderson has been worse than Thames, but Thames getting a positive readout in the metric just means to me that the small sample he's played isn't really registering his true below averageness. (I don't think he's as bad out there as some, but he hasn't been good imo compared to what UZR is saying). Granted, Granderson is getting old, so maybe he's legitimately as bad as Thames in the OF now, but if I had to pick between them for defense, I'd go Granderson. To me it seems like stat-wise, he's getting grief from 3 fielding errors (and a throwing error), which, while not good, I don't think is indicative of how we should expect him to play defensively going forward.
  8. Granted, this is the first time we've really been going this well towards a playoff push since 2011, but I can't remember ever seeing this many ML level trade acquisitions in a single year by the Brewers, since I've started following them seriously in '02. 6 deadline moves, 3 for each deadline!
  9. With Granderson platooning with Braun and providing OF late inning defense, Thames probably gets Broxton's spot in your proposal as a bench bat. Davies probably makes it as a piggy backer, unless he's bad in his comeback in September, and then Dan Jennings probably gets the final BP spot. Whoever does better in Sept between Barnes and Knebel gets that spot, otherwise I'd say you've called it pretty well.
  10. What type of posts? Thames is better than Braun offensively and defensively it is not that wide of a margin. Even with Thames bad defense in the OF he is still a better player than Braun is right now. Ryan Braun has cooled off a bit last few games, but Thames has been even worse lately. Granted, being a lefty gives him platoon advantage with facing more righties, so I'll give you Thames on offense by a bit, but it's a lot closer than being made out. And defense is no question in Braun's favor by a significant margin in the outfield, and neither are playing 1b right now.
  11. Gio Gonzalez is going to be pretty frustrating to watch and garner a lot of complaints with the IGTs, due to his propensity to walk a lot of hitters. Led the league last year, and his walk rate is even worse this year. That said, if you have to pick between Gio Gonzalez and Junior Guerra who would be most likely to knock out 3-4 quality starts in their next five, I'd pick Gio for sure, so I'll call this a rotation upgrade.
  12. If the Brewers wouldn't block Daniel Murphy, I doubt they will block Donaldson, who is more expensive.
  13. The brewers are having to score more runs to win lately, so of course getting another bat makes sense!
  14. With the caveat that the price is really high, so the risk is a lot more than I would do if I was GM, Jordan Zimmermann does seem a bit like a guy who might be helped moving back to the NL It's also encouraging that his whip has gone down this year and his Ks have recovered to (better than) career average. DET, besides being in the AL, is also a bit below average defensively, so if the Brewers were to put in the A-team defense for him, I could easily see him matching Chacin, who has been our best starter this year (Miley's missed a bit too much time to take that trophy), and would probably have the highest ceiling for a post season run this year. It's also great that he barely walks anybody.
  15. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36398&p=1093445&hilit=Miley#p1093445 You're definitely correct that he's had to work through trouble fairly regularly. In a full healthy season, some of that luck would average out more, so there's no way he'd be sporting a 2.18 ERA. That said a .234 avg against and 1.25 WHIP isn't atrocious, and I've liked the trend in regards to his BB rate. Early on, coming back from 2 different DL stints his walk rate was pretty bad, but it's gotten better and better as he's gotten more innings under his belt. As a sort of pitch to contact pitcher, he definitely needs to avoid putting out tons of walks to stay effective.
  16. Miley had a good start to his career, but it did slowly go down hill and his '16/'17 were pretty bad, as noted at length in prior threads by many. One could see the cause for concern prior to the season, in imagining Miley as a key piece in the rotation. But, to me, it was pretty clear he was signed to be an option for the rotation, and his earlier years gave reason to believe he could be a solid pitcher. That said, he has out performed any expectations even of the most positive outlooks anyone could have had for the move, so kudos to him for working through the injuries, and the Brewers for giving him that chance, when many teams might have kicked him to the curb with the injury in spring.
  17. After seeing sveumrules post with the MLB definition of a bunt, I have reluctantly changed my opinion to agree that the correct call was made. But, it is definitely a grey enough area that I wouldn't contradict others opinions on it either.
  18. I got home last night just in time to see a 5-3 Brewers lead change to a 10-6 Reds lead in the course of 2 innings and turned it off. But, nice win!
  19. I don't care how my car looks, I just want 100 MPG without having to plug a car into an outlet (apartment life).
  20. [sarcasm]His Avg/OBP split is too low![/sarcasm]
  21. Aguilar's July (includes pre-break) - .202 .321 .449 .770 Aguilar's August - .263 .368 .450 .818 He's definitely been better lately, but for a hit only 1B, playing matchups once in awhile right now would probably not be a bad thing.
  22. I don't really think this is all that productive either though. Throughout the course of the season fans are going to be happy, angry, frustrated and pretty much any other adjective you can come up with. Trying to stifle the anger and frustration can lead to "boil over" posts that might not happen had fans been allowed to vent over the course of a frustrating week or two. Plus, what's the fun of baseball if you don't have well timed DFA *insert player here* posts? Just my $.02. Frankly, any person who gets so frustrated over a baseball game (that they aren't even playing in) that they lose any self-constraint when posting deserves any ban that they get.
